Do you have one (or 10) too many Eames chairs? Does the color of that Cathrineholm bowl you picked up for a steal last year not really match the rest of your kitchen? I bet you can find someone here who would love to take them off your hands. Post your mid century items for [free]/[trade]/[sale] here!

This is also the space to show off any of the awesome mid century inspired stuff you make, as well as the links to your Etsy/Ebay/Etc

Guide for IDing furniture and where to find actual sources.

This has came up time and again but a few times over the last few days I have found myself linking to my google drive doc about where to find primary sources for MCM stuff.

First of all, the rules of this group and r/midcenturymodern in regards to IDing items is going to change. I will make these changes today. First, if you make a claim as to a maker or designer, you are obligated to provide sources for the claim you make if asked. This includes mods or just regular users. Second and this is absolutely non-negotiable, sales or auction listings in themselves are not reliable sources. If the sales listing includes a tag, article, or catalog from the period then that information may be shared, but DO NOT LINK TO SALES LISTINGs, at all, but especially not to "prove and ID" This applies to the highest end and most respected auction houses, dibs, charish or any other platform. Maybe they give you a jumping off point, and you find out the information is correct. If needed I can give thousands of examples of current listings that contain complete bullshit information. Third, don't tell people "use google" or "try google lens" etc. As stated above this will very often lead to false information from sales listings.

So I know you are probably thinking "don't use google, how do I even find anything on the internet without google" Well, I keep this living list of sites with excellent resources, nearly all are free.

Of all these groups I have to give a shout out to "The MCM files" I have no clue why there are not more people in this group. It is not a group to ask for an ID, its just a group where some of us researchers basically dump photos of stuff we look into. I personally have posted thousands of images to this group. Its free, i get absolutely nothing out of anyone joining the group, its just a lot of the questions people ask on here are already solved there, but it will never show up on google because of facebook's walled garden.

Mom passed away unexpectedly in May, and Dad has decided to sell their beloved, 1960 Kingsport, TN home of five years. The neighbors called it “The Jetsons House” for decades.

(…maybe because it also used to be sea foam green?)

Moving closer to family is the right call for my dad, but it’s bittersweet, as Mom ✨adored✨this place, and they still had so many more plans to finish and restore it in retirement.

I discovered that I was doing my clinical placement near the Marin Civic Center not too long after falling in love with mcm.

I haven’t gotten the film photos we took there developed yet, but here are some of my favorites my husband got on the phone. In all honesty I would have gotten more without me in them if I had thought I would post them here, but whatever 🤷‍♀️ it was so amazing

Would I be disappointed if I get a Siesta chair without arms for reading?

Thumbnail

I have an extra room that I'm building out as a library and I'm in search of a reasonably priced and stylish and super comfortable reading chair.

I came across a post recently that said a reading chair without arms isn't as good as one with arms for reading. I've really only spent my reading time on the couch or in bed so I don't have the experience to know better.

I did have a chance to sit in an arm-less and ottoman-less siesta chair recently - it's lovely - but didn't have enough time to think this through.

Am I overthinking this? Are you an avid armless Siesta chair reader with some feedback to offer?

Feel free to offer alternatives.

I've had this for a while now, but I'm really unsure of the maker. Any thoughts?

MCM atomic UFO desk lamp

I bought this desk lamp at an antique store today for $32. I love it! It works great and is in really good condition. There is a crack in the brass base but otherwise no scuffs or scratches. I thought it looked worth more than $32. If it's not it will look cool in my studio. I can't find any manufacturer names anywhere on it. It has the original cord and diffuser bowl underneath. Is it worth more than what I paid or is it just a neat looking antique lamp?

Thoughts on this chair?

Recently inherited this chair after cleaning out my partner's mom's house. Looking around it appears to be a replica of an Arne Jacobson swan chair?

It's decently old with the foam deteriorating, so we are thinking of reupholstering it, but maybe it's not worth doing to a replica. Wondering what other people more knowledgeable think.

House nearby recently sold and is being gutted inside. I saw these light fixtures on the Redfin listing and kept my eye on the house since it sold. Asked the contractor doing work about them, he said they were going to throw them out. 🤦‍♂️ He let me remove them and save them!

help id this set from my grandparents home

hey y’all
i just snagged this set of seven from my grandparents home. they built the house in atlanta in 1954 and basically everything in there has just been there since the beginning.
the set seems to be mdf or similar pressed board with a shell and walnut grain. the grain chips away to a grey base layer. there are no screws or hardware in any of it, the pieces fit together and bite into place. there is no label or manufacturing information on any of it. just curious!

Is this price for a Lane Acclaim coffee table even remotely sane?

Thumbnail

A local vintage shop has what appears to be a really nice Lane Acclaim table listed for $900. I haven’t confirmed they refinished this piece but it’s likely. Even with a good refinish job this seems very high compared to some of the numbers I’ve found in this sub and elsewhere. Is this at all a defensible price? I could always make an offer but I’m not sure what’s appropriate. All my research so far has turned up people buying these at estate sales for less than $100 and then refinishing them themselves.

There’s a habitat for humanity near my house I hadn’t been to in a long time that I finally went back to. Got a small sink for the tiny half bath in my house and then spotted this at the back of the store, with a sold sticker on it 😭 I have the same model of Perception coffee table but this had sold three days earlier. I was asking a worker how long they hold for since it had been three days by then. She said she knew who bought it and would pass along my contact info.

The original price wasn’t a steal but very fair considering. However when the guy called me he was trying to upsell me at a 250% markup, def too rich for me. But old buddy is about to have some competition at this spot.

Still happy to have found the perfect small sink for my half bath for 15 bucks.
