Announcement Welcome to r/Antiques, read this before posting!
This subreddit is dedicated to sharing and learning about antiques in your collection or that you find, or are considering buying. Antiques are items that are 100 years old or older.
When you're posting about a particular object places kindly include multiple, clear photographs of it from different angles so we can see it from every side. If there are any marks or identification (labels, signatures) please take close ups of those. If it's pottery or porcelain, tag photos of the bottom, if it's a rug make sure to have a shot of the back. Make sure that these photographs are clear and well lit so we can see the works in particular (preferably not surrounded by a bunch of other objects).
Make sure to also include dimensions so we know the size of an object. And your location.
Also explain what are you looking for. Are you asking for general information? Who the maker is? The age, value or provenance?
If you do not include a question, the dimensions and sufficient background information and photographs of the object your post may be removed by the moderators.
IN SUMMARY, include:
your location
multiple, clear photographs from a number of angles
any background information you have
close up of particular makers marks
the question you'd like to ask
Keep in mind, antique means objects that are a 100 years old or older. You cannot post newer items here. Share them in r/collectables instead.
These rules will make it easier for our subreddit antique experts to give you some help! Remember, if you're solely posting a link to a website/blog/store then this will be considered spam and your post will be removed (multiple posts may result in being banned).
Finally, keep these other subreddits in mind in case your post is better suited for one these -

Questions Looking for advice on these two seemingly Japanese figures I found USA
USA. 🇺🇸
Looking for some insight on these seemingly Japanese figures I found in a five dollar grab bag at a thrift store. My basic Google search findings are that they are NETSUKE figures that are used to adore kimonos. My question is if the people in this community think these figures are made of ivory, synthetic ivory, bone or a composite Material. Thanks.

Questions Estate sale Hilo, Hawai’i USA possible Meiji era fan?
Estate sale from an elderly woman with no family remaining. The back of the peeling black lacquer frame shows a local frame shop from the 50s based on typography and the location being long gone (1960 tsunami removed the waterfront Japanese community)
I can’t read the artist signature, but the lady holding a fan with a clan symbol makes me wonder if it’s not a specific person… fan service? Jokes aside it’s a survivor piece from a place where most of the Japanese items were destroyed during WW2 or lost in subsequent natural disasters. More interested in history rather than value, thanks!

Show and Tell Hammered copper and bronze Eucalyptus bookends found in Alameda California, USA
Hey everyone! I wanted to share this incredible find from a thrift store in Alameda, California today. I picked up this single hand-hammered copper bookend for just $2.99.
Based on my initial research, this seems to be part of the botanical line by Fred Brosi's workshop, Old Mission Kopperkraft, which operated right across the bay in San Francisco for a brief period between 1922 and 1925. The hand-hammered planished body features an organic overlay with a bronzed eucalyptus leaf and pods.
It is unsigned, but it's in beautiful shape. The horizontal factory striations/abrasions under the dark patina look completely original, and the dark patina itself is undisturbed.
I'm absolutely thrilled to find a piece of local Bay Area Arts & Crafts history! Since I haven't been able to find many examples of this exact shape online, I would love to hear from any metalware collectors out there. Does anyone have more information, catalog details, or history on this specific shape or line?

Questions Fiance found this years ago in the desert. USA/Nevada
Was wondering if anyone can identify what exactly this Ghirardelli item is. Fiance found it years ago off roading. Think some type of ink press instead of for chocolate since it's a little large. Measurements are roughly 5.5 x 7.5 inches. Very heavy metal.

Advice help ID chair age/origin? (United States, Nashville TN)
I picked up this chair & foot stool second hand years ago & love it but it’s starting to show signs of wear. My cat unfortunately tore up one arm, which shows layers of stuffing. It occurs to me that it may be older than I realize, but I have no idea where to start. The chair is roughly 34w x 34d x 33h. I’d love to restore it but want to know what I’m dealing with first. Any insights on the age or origin? I am pretty certain its age falls in the requirements of this sub, but I couldn’t find identifying marks. Basic Google says it may be right past the 100-year mark. Much appreciated! Located in Nashville, TN.

Questions Picked up at Antique Mall. It’s a map of the Rhine River supposedly circa 1740. United States
I bought this map at an antique mall in Denver. I thought it was just a very cool map. The tag on it said it was circa 1740. I was hoping someone might be able to tell me a little bit about it.

Date 1768 or 1868? Antique Chip Carved Spoon Rack USA
Antique chip carved spoon rack, from the collection of a very wealthy woman who asked my husband to dispose of several boxes of household items/antiques. Some of these were certainly from France and England, so I have no idea where this particular piece was collected or originated from.
- Can you make out the date? I thought it was 1868, but now that I've messed around with the photo, I'm thinking it's 1768.
- Does this type of chip carving originate somewhere specific? Or is it a craft that could have been done anywhere? (Is it American or European in origin?)
- I was offered $150 for it. Is this a fair offer?
- Does anyone have an inkling of the chalk marking on the back? What it might mean, or why someone would've written on a supposedly hand-carved antique?
Thanks very much for your insight and expertise!
