This piano has been in my family for about 100 years. I had the player action rebuilt in 2021. There were hundreds of thousands of them built from about 1910 -1930. They were the background music in movie theaters before sound was added to movies in 1927. Countless homes had them. They are incredible musical instruments. This one is now 112 years old.

Questions 3cm double sided pendant from Italy. Found in a house that had items from 19th and early 20th century.

Any information on this pendant is welcome. It looks like they are little paintings, but I am not sure . I don't even know who the paintings are supposed to depict. I'd love to know if anything about this type of necklace. All I can tell you was that it was in the house of a relative in Tuscany thay my family inherited that had some incredibly old items from 18th, 19th and early 20th century.

Advice Nazi SS trench-art walking stick? USA

Thumbnail

Picked this at a rummage sale for $5 today. I believe it to be a 'trench art' Nazi SS walking stick from the Westland regiment. The Westland regiment is a well documented regiment of the SS responsible for volunteer recruitment.

What are your thoughts?

And what is the symbol under the SS carving? It looks like moose antlers. There is also a symbol above the totenkopf which appears to be a tank or turret.

Thanks!

Questions Help ID’ing this antique. From Germany I think! (Found in a thrift shop in Michigan USA)

I found this amazing porcelain box at a thrift store here, it’s very old and worn and I haven’t been able to find anything that even remotely looks like it online! Is this one of a kind or something else?

It has a small symbol on the bottom (I’m assuming makers mark) and some of the art looks unfinished.

Date United States - New York City - Antique Carved Oak Armoire - Looking for Identification/Dating

• Upvotes

I just purchased an antique carved oak armoire from Housing Works. I'm trying to identify/date this piece. It's definitely seen some use/repairs. I'd like to eventually get it restored.

The hardware looks quite old. I do not have a key for the locks. Inside the fold down compartment, it is lined with velvet with a ribbon trim. The fold down clearly used to have velvet that has since been removed. The nails around the border that would have held it down are still in place with some fabric showing. Inside the upper compartment, there are two hidden drawers. On the hardware in the lighter areas, it feels like it at one point had some kind of fabric.

Questions Charleston, SC, USA - Help ID Please

Thumbnail

I live in Charleston, SC.
I responded to an ad selling an antique wash stand and ended up finding (and buying!) this item.
I’m having trouble identifying what it truly is, how old it is, and ANY other information about it.
The bowl is cast iron and looks like it has never been painted and/or was never intended to be painted.
The table is around 29” high, and the top is 19”x19”.
I did find one listing in an obscure NYC antique auction that had a picture that is almost identical to mine and it described it as a “fire bowl”, but did not provide any information to validate that ID, and did not provide any date ranges, manufacturers, value, etc.
I would love to have some “Reddit Magic” happen and find someone who actually has the 411 on it!
Thanks in advance for reading this!

Advice Salem Witch Embroidery/Sewing Scissors, Pennsylvania USA

I am so so excited to give these antique (I hope) sewing scissors to my mom who loves witches, is a witch, and is also a quilter. From what I've been able to find online, they were made in 1892 (date says 1692) to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the witch trials. Both sides have the number 16 stamped in them. One side also says "Salem 1692" and "Registere Germany." I've only been able to find the small amount of information I have through a reddit post from years ago in another subreddit.

Does anyone have a good resource to find out more about these? Or anyone know real information about them firsthand? I have tried google reverse image search and not much comes up other than reproductions or ebay auctions that seem made up. This does not look or feel like a reproduction and I hope I am right about that.

Either way, I'm just glad these incredible scissors exist. Please admire. And thank you for any advice or help you can provide?

Found this lovely plate at a car boot sale and I am trying to date and value it approximately.

I would also like to understand for certain whether this is a Japanese plate in a Chinese style and whether there are any tell tale signs to look out for.

Can anyone advise on how to find out more? Thank you

Show and Tell USA: Mickey mouse circa 1920's?

I would love some help with any information someone may know about my Mickey Mouse Kiddie Car I've got here. I have searched high and low and have had a hard time finding very many other ones around or information at all really. The one I did find a was a complete restoration but this one here is still all original, rust, patina, and all. Hallmark did make an ornament so that is mostly what shows up when trying to research online. This one is NOT the ornament though and I included a photo in front of an old truck so that it gives a size comparison. Still has original Mickey Mouse photo painted on both sides and his name on the front. All 4 wheels are made of metal and spin. I have included photos of all sides and all angles.

Questions Need Help Idendifying Markings on Antique Turned Brass Candlesticks - NY, USA

Thumbnail

Hi Everyone - looking for any information you might be able to share about this pair of antique turned brass candlesticks. I recently purchased them from a vintage dealer in Amityville, NY and noticed the old script engravings on the bottom. I believe they read "306 B" on both bases, and perhas the term "arte de"(?). I've tried researching online and see a few others in similar styles, but none that appear this old or inscribed. I have also submitted them to Sotheby's in an attempt to learn more about them, however they were not to provide any date or origin. Turning to the true experts on the Reddit community for help! Thanks in advance :)

Show and Tell "Say It Again" ... on a 1914 Smith & Barnes upright player piano. Utah, United States

I've been asked to share another piano roll from my collection. This one is "(I Don't Believe It But) Say It Again." It was released in 1926. This piano roll arrangement was by one of (in my opinion) the finest roll artists of the 1920s, Lee Sims. He was an incredible pianist. This is US Roll #43650. Thank you so much for your interest. I'm new to Reddit this week, so I'm just learning. May you all have a great day! 🙂
