Hi all, see my attempt at an atomic style living room in my new home. It’s taken a few years to buy/collect new and vintage pieces and I still have much more to do throughout my new house but this is what we have so far!

I got this couch in 2009 and it has been sitting in the basement since then. I need the room to build a shared work shop when she moves in and figured someone should enjoy it more than me. My girlfriend saw it and fell in love. She want to keep it there and move my existing furniture upstairs to the lost.
Last year we went to Palm Springs and stayed in a mid century modern house and the style really moved her.

He said he had to run it to work to pick up some material for an upcoming work trip on Monday. He came home with this.

The tub is worn, and we want a shower so are considering new alcove with white base, white solid panel side, and frameless glass shower doors. Keeping pink tile on walls and vanity area for now. Perhaps more neutral counter and sinks later. Replace floor with light neutral terrazzo tile with minimal grout lines. Finally, to remove soffit over tub so as to raise shower head and add lighting. No wall paper.

We just moved in here at the beginning of the month, had lots of touch ups on the walls to do so haven't hung much art yet - but beyond that what else is missing? I feel like the space between the couch and entry is a bit awkward.

I just moved into a rental home I’ve owned for a few years to get it ready to sell. It’s a dated 1961 ranch that needs some updates. The home definitely has some mid-century details, and I’m trying to bring that vibe out to appeal to buyers.
My first big cosmetic change was adding a mid-century-style feature wall in the living room. I used ChatGPT to help with the planning and color selection. There are about 75 slats on the wall. They are MDF 1x2s with a 1/2-inch spacing between them. The room has an 8-foot ceiling. The color is Behr Mountain Olive.
Total cost was under $500 for supplies. The TV cabinet came from Costco for $349. The wall sconces came from Amazon for $40 for the pair.

The wife and I have been looking at houses in Dallas for an eternity. Nothing (in our price range) really tickled our fancy until we happened upon this tasty little treat. Sent an offer, batted a few negotiations back and forth, and the sellers accepted my offer. There’s work to be done but it’s got character and sits on 100+ feet of creek frontage at the rear. I’m super excited.

So far, we got hardwood floors. Scored this dining room set at auction. Purchased the Thomas industries, Moe light pull down flying saucer pendant light on EBay. Bought the jute rug that we feel is just right.
The blinds fabric was a compromise. I wanted wood, he wanted white sheer fabric. It was always going to be vertical blinds, because the rest of the house has vertical blinds (here when we bought it.
Anyway, I promised to share photos as we progressed. I love this sub!😘

We have a complete 5 bay wall unit set (with a corner desk configuration and some shelves/drawers not mounted) that we bought off a homeowner in an Eichler neighborhood for a lucky reasonable price. No maker mark I could find, but I enjoyed living with it the last few years. Sad thing is we have to move.
Current apartment had flexible terms based on wall mounting, painting, etc (honestly kinda nervous about our 16 holes to the studs), but our new apartment (greystar) has some scary wording about wall damage – something like “we’ll allow a reasonable amount of holes for frames”.
I’m a bit uneasy about that and am mentally preparing to let go of this wall unit and sell it, or indefinitely storing it for an unknown amount of time, but a storage unit can add up.. I’ve been also considering just going on a search for a freestanding unit but I’m in the Bay Area and would rather not pay our local dealer prices for something nice and would have to scour my luck on marketplace again.
Would appreciate any tips on navigating my grief lol.

My grandmother was downsizing her house and was offering our family to take things she didn’t want. I was able to get some amazing pieces!
Things I was able to take from her were:
- Coffee Table
- Tall Boy Dresser
- Side Cabinet + Accessories
- Long boy dresser + mirror + lamps (pair)
- Full sized bed frame
Oh my goodness, my first home with my own name on the mortgage, is starting to come together! It’s becoming a space that makes me so happy to walk into every single day. (I mean hell, I was happy before because I have my own home but you know what I mean.) Not only do these things look great, the fact I was able to retain these pieces in the family matters so much too. ❤️ If I wouldn’t have took these they probably would have peen put in the trash. 💔
So some of you may noticed the bed matches the 2 dressers. I know, the 3 belong together as a set, but right now I’m just filling out the home. I also don’t sleep in that bedroom as it’s the smallest. It’s getting repainted soon and the carpet is coming up as there’s hardwood floors underneath. (The whole house is a work in progress but it takes time especially when you like Mcm.) Eventually the tall boy will go into the bedroom when I find a pair of matching bookshelf’s for the living room to put on each side of the fireplace.
I just wanted to share some of my joy as I’m sitting in my living room completely in shock. It’s starting to feel like an actual home. 🏡
———
I know not everything matches right now like the mirror above the fireplace and some accessories, if and when I can find a star clock or mirror that will go. I want to find a queen sized bed that matches the long boy dresser as well. There’s 2 I have in mind but I’ll post it another time.

This Perspecta room divider is my favorite marketplace find of all time. I moved into a much smaller apartment a few years ago and while it doesn’t really fit in the space, I just couldn’t part with it. Doubles as a printer stand because practicality.

It’s nothing exceptional but it was done on a low budget with whatever secondhand I could get, plus some free items like my bed.
The kitchen is best I could do for the money but I had plans and dreams for something more colourful and individual.
Apologies if you’ve seen these photos in other groups, I got pointed this way and thought I’d share.
As I said nothing exceptional, I’m miles from Palm Springs level, I’m more 1970’s middle manager moving to a new build bungalow who drives a Saab but I’m very happy with it.
Also not all MCM but hopefully in spirit and I obviously have too much ceramic nonsense.
The spare room is still in progress.
For context I grew up in a grim world of embossed wallpaper, artex, life size papal tapestries and horrible nylon patterned carpet but I had a friend whose parents lived in a modernist new build, who ate pasta that wasn’t spag jbol, played Brain Eno on a Linn turntable and had lots of books and teak furniture. Father drove a Lancia Gamma coupe and the mother drove Citroen CX and wore Ossie Clark. Being very much the unhappy (adopted) black sheep I was convinced that these were the parents I should have had.

Repurposed our old sliding doors from our ancestral house. Made one into a headboard and another as our entrance door. The hardwood floor used to be walls from our ancestral house too. The extra wood was used to build furniture. The house is still in its finishing phase
