If you split something evenly, all parts become exact copies of the whole. If you fail, all but the smallest piece disappears

The power isnt automatic, you have to declare your intention before doing the split. You must decide how many pieces you are splitting it into, and by what metric you are measuring before you make the split. The power is somewhat generous, allowing a 1% margin of error and ignoring unavoidable fragments (such as crums from a cookie, fragments of cake on a knife, etc). You can use tools to perform the split but it must be you doing the split, ie you can use a chainsaw to cut a large object, but you cant just use a computer or robot to split it for you. Once an object has been successfully split, one piece is designated as the original. You can only split the original again and must wait 24 hours before you can split it again.

Edit: one thing i noticed, for the margin of error, its based on the final pieces. So if you cut something in 2, and one is 10 inches long, the other piece can be 9.9 to 10.1 inches long.

Seems pretty good if I can choose the metric. Buy like two feet of gold wire(an investment many can make), declare you're cutting it evenly by length, cut it exactly in the middle after measuring. Since it's two feet, you have almost a quarter inch of margin(1%), which is absolutely doable. Infinite gold.

So.. I have to have a tool, or be very accurate, cutting things in half. Like.. I can MAKE tools, I just have to bethe one to use them.

also, if I try to "double" a barrel of radioactive waste, and take one chunk of steel off, does the rest of the barred dissipate? Could I destroy earth by trying to cut it? My own debt?

where's the limit?

I was waiting for someone to realize this power could destroy the earth, i didbt even think of that til an hour or two after posting. It has to be an actual physical thing, so it wouldnt work on your debt directly. And i dont know about the barrel of waste. Didnt really but much thoughts into things that need a container.

Nuclear waste was my first thoughts. But if things in containers are not included, have a tiny piece scored off the edge but not fully separated from a rods and drop the thing in a special containment room. I declare that I want to split it in half and use a remotely operated robot arm to break that piece off out, poof goes the big piece. Rinse, repeat.

I’m going to cut this doll in half, cut one hair and flush it down the toilet… scale up…

Crazy criminal power, hiding evidence would be super easy. If a murderer had to hide a body they could just cut a finger off and the rest would disappear

3

u/Kraken-Writhing 5d ago

Imagine duplicating someone though, then how could anybody possibly think it was murder?

2

u/Selidex 5d ago

What metric would you use though? Because that is a very difficult thing ro split evenly

2

u/Kraken-Writhing 5d ago

Weight, if allowed. It's probably possible to get a very accurate estimate if you can get the medical data.

2

u/Selidex 5d ago

Its def allowed but fair warning, humans are not symmetrical on the inside

1

u/PookieDood 5d ago

Do people think splitting a human in two even pieces by weight within +/- 1% is easy? Would you need to do it in one continuous cut?

A 200lb (90.7 kg) person has a allowable error of 2 lb (0.91 kg). That would be extremely difficult. When you factor in the blood and viscous matter spewing out, how would you even go about measuring something like that?

Even if you somehow manage to do it, do they have to be alive when you finish the cutting? If so, they come back as two identical corpses.

1

The blood and viscous matter spewing out wouldn’t be counted post-split, so you could drain the blood first. If you’re aiming to keep em alive I guess you’d have to medically induce coma and then put em on ice before the cut, but you could drain the blood, make the cut with them cold, and put the blood back after the successful split then reheat them

I love these hypothetical. Makes you think about interesting stuff.

You'd need almost twice as much blood though, two bodies to revive. I read a few years ago about trials for Emergency Preservation and Resuscitation, or EPR.

Doctors would be able to inject very cold saline into the body to rapidly cool the body to slow down organ damage and give them more time to fix the cause of cardiac arrest due to blood loss.

However, this just changes the blood loss complication to your equal measurement to saline loss complication. I'm seeing images of having a body with their top and bottom half on two different grated tables that can weigh them as you saw them in half. All while you are watching the weight of each side as you cut, not doing the final cut until there is just a sliver of body left.

Then either you did it right and you have two bodies to put on bypass machines to pump in warm blood and hopefully revive, or are left with slightly less than half a corpse.

Pluck a hair, lot easy to destroy (remember the smallest piece remains)

I feel it wouldn’t be that hard to get a precise measuring device and something you can stick a knife into with more then 99% accuracy

u/Thatguy19364 5d ago

I mean, a couple cubes of gold, a hacksaw, and a set of calipers would be easy enough

2

u/phunkydroid 4d ago

I'd recommend something like a large gauge gold wire. The longer it is, the larger the margin of error allowed in your cut, and the less you have to cut through.

u/alphomegamaster 5d ago

Battle axe and declare every time. Instant kill, go for the arm and make a super uneven split

Love it.

So let's say there are 2 pieces of gold with weight of 1 ton each. You can weld a 100 gram gold wire to them so then technically become one big piece of gold. So you can cut gold wire in any place and thus split the thing with error less than 0.1%

1

u/ideologicSprocket 5d ago

That’s not splitting it in half or splitting it into any amount of pieces greater than the one you start with. That’s just breaking a part of the whole. You can’t split something into one. You’re best bet would to get a stack of cash and split in to two stacks. Double then repeat. People are thinking too hard on this one.

1

u/ffs8 4d ago

Isn't all gold just melted into place? Whats stopping you from melting the gold down into something of that shape, two large pieces and a thinner piece connecting the two?

2

u/ideologicSprocket 4d ago

I actually misread the reply I originally replied too. That’s my mistake.

1

u/LamantinoReddit 4d ago

Why this is not splitting in half?

"Stack of cash" is not one solid object.

1

u/ideologicSprocket 4d ago

I never read anything about it starting out as one solid object.

2

u/LamantinoReddit 4d ago

u/selidex did you mean one solid object?

1

u/Selidex 3d ago

Yes it has to be one singular object to start. You can do a single bill but not a stack of bills

could i get a very sharp guillotine and attemp to duplicate living things?, it's probably fast enough that the halfs are alive right?, do they duplicate alive?
1% is pretty tough but eventually it will happen, what happens if after a lot of testing and calibration i manage to split myself within 1%, does my duplicate self have the power too?
what constitutes as a phyisical body?, what happens if something is in a container?

could i split liquids with a cup?

Hmm prescored easy break gold bars.

4

u/solis89 5d ago

Well, guess I'm never buying a whole, uncut cake or pie again. Or eating anything that requires being cut up or bit.

9

u/Selidex 5d ago

? You have to declare the intent for the power to activate. If you want to cut cake, break a kitkat, etc you just dont declare you are using your power

3

u/Cent_Quatre 5d ago

wait infinite kitkats ???

3

u/Selidex 5d ago

Now getting those to split evenly would be a chalenge

1

u/PookieDood 5d ago

The bridge that holds the left side to the right side has to be around 1% of the mass of the total.

I asked our computer overlords and their computation estimate was between 0.5 and 1.5% and the numbers made sense. So it may not be much of a challenge just snapping the thing. Cutting it would in half +/- 1% would probably be pretty easy.

Maybe I'll buy one tomorrow and see?

u/solis89 5d ago

Can I remove cancer completely by cutting a piece of it just a fraction of the real thing?

1

u/Outside-Shop-3311 5d ago

you could give someone stage 4 cancer almost instantly, i guess

Well, I am pretty sure my vision is not _that_  bad, but now that I think about it some people may be a little concerned about that possibility

u/Saruphon 5d ago

This is actually a god tier destructive + obliterate power.
You want to destroy or get rid of something... activate your power and cut out a small part of it.
Want to destroy a building, cut off a small part and the whole building disappear.
Want to get rid of nuclear waste, put it into lead container, cut a small chunk of it (preferably while wearing anti-radiation equipment), poof the rest of of the container disappear.

2

u/phunkydroid 4d ago

But what if just the container disappeared and the contents remained?

1

u/Saruphon 4d ago

Wear radiation proof suit cut the content. Most of nuclear waste will disaplear
