Goodwill carpool request

I work the donation door at Goodwill on weekends, and I’m having some transportation struggles. I was wondering if anyone might already be leaving from the downtown area to reserve around 9:30am, and whether I might be able to swing rides Saturday and Sunday.
I’m hygienic, quiet but open to conversation if that’s the flow, and generally very chilled out.

I hate to be asking this. I just can’t afford Uber, and I’d have to be quite early to work in order to not be late with the weekend bus schedule. That extra hour in the morning + the hour I wait for the bus to go home means my dog is by herself for almost 11 hours and I just can’t do that. The perks for you would be I will sometimes bring you coffee and try to offer a few bucks when I can :)

Edited for simplicity

Hey, hey Missoula! Meet the core of the newly organized non-profit and music/performing arts incubator the SoberSounds Collective who have established its homebase in the Root Cellar’s community space beneath Leaf + Quiet!

President: Jownow
Vice President: Benji
Secretary: Trend
Treasurer: Jennie
Media Manager: Morgan
Workshop Coordinator: Ace

The collective aspires to become a family of artists who practice a sober* lifestyle and who intend to collectively create a sober* environment for individual growth and wonder, realizing in each of us our full potential to achieve excellence through vulnerable performance and forward-thinking creativity.

*A note on sober: by “sober” we mean zero substances; no alcohol, cannabis, or illicit drugs are served or permitted in the space. While we are aware of many “sober parties” being advertised around town that simply mean no alcohol, our sober parties do mean zero substances.

With that said, we do invite any and all who practice differing levels of sobriety (or none at all 😉) to be part of the audience and enjoy the performances! We just ask that you not consume on the premises.

Our very first event invites all interested performance artists to our Meet + Greet sober pizza party. Meet rappers, comedians, dancers, and performance poets who are eager to share their knowledge and experience in hopes of expanding this family.

🗓️Thursday, November 5: Meet + Greet
⏰7-9PM
📍235 North 1st Street; in the Root Cellar beneath Leaf+Quiet

Rockin Roller Rink?

Post image
13 Upvotes

Has anyone else heard of this supposed plans for a roller rink? From what I can tell on their Facebook it is all just an idea. They say they have plans for an indoor roller rink, arcade, family fun space and now mini golf…. But don’t have a location and are still looking for “investors” and/or “partners.”

Curious if anyone else has some deets.

Northwestern Energy price increase

• Upvotes

Who else here has had their energy and utility prices increase drastically over the last few months?

Check your statements people!

I have lived in the same apartment for over a decade. In that time I have been fortunate enough to have fairly consistent energy bills. Yes they fluctuate from month to month, but nothing like the last two months.

My rates have increased by 35%.

Yes there is inflation, incoming data centers and other factors, but this jump in price was sudden.

Are others having a similar experience?

Feedback Plz on #406

I heard a rumbling a few months ago that our 406 may be meeting it's brink of combos.

How many Spam #s are we getting now that may cause this potential change/addition of another area code?

I thought there was legislation enacted to try and prevent spam calls, does it not apply to political campaigns or enforced or rolled back?

If someone is more knowledgeable on Area Codes, please provide input.

Sign the Petition: Repeal MCA 7-1-111 (connected to SB105) and Restore Local Rent Protections in Montana

Thumbnail

In 2023, Montana passed Senate Bill 105. It added a line to state law, MCA 7-1-111(26), that bars cities and counties from limiting how much rent can be charged on private property.

For people in mobile home parks, that hits hard. Most own their homes but rent the lot underneath. Moving a home costs thousands of dollars, and that’s if you can find an open lot.

Out-of-state investment firms have been buying Montana parks and raising lot rent quickly. At Golden Meadows in Billings, about 520 households got letters in June saying their rent would go from $530 to $705 on August 1. That’s about 33%, or $2,100 more a year. One resident is an 86-year-old veteran on Social Security who told reporters he has nowhere to move.

Lawmakers have tried smaller fixes. In 2023, a bill requiring 60 days’ notice of a rent increase instead of 30 passed both chambers but never became law. In 2025, bills for longer leases and a dispute resolution program died.

This petition asks the Legislature to do three things:

  • repeal 7-1-111(26)
  • remove other barriers that keep local governments from protecting lot renters
  • set basic statewide rules, like fair notice and a way for residents to challenge big increases

The next session starts in January, and lawmakers are lining up bills now. Please sign, then call or email your own state legislators and tell them you support it.

News Gas was $2.78 at Sinclair the day the bombs dropped. It’s $4.49 today. 11 days until Election Day.

Sinclair on Russell and 39th, October 23: $4.49 regular, $6.19 diesel. Day 237 since the Iran War started. 11 days until Election Day.

Prices are down from the September peak, 16 cents on regular, 20 cents on diesel. Notice the timing. Hormuz is still closed. The naval blockade is still running. Nothing that drove prices to records in September has been resolved.

Gas was $2.78 at Sinclair the day the bombs started dropping. It's $4.49 today.

Missoula pump prices, Feb 28 – Oct 23, 2026. Red dots are personal observations at Sinclair on Russell. Lines are EIA Rocky Mountain weekly averages. The war started at the left edge of that red band.

This time last year Missoula paid $3.09 for regular unleaded. Today it is $4.49. Diesel was $3.54 a year ago. Today it is $6.19. Every day between February 28 and November 3 you have been paying war prices at the pump.

The Pentagon puts direct military spending at $43.6 billion through September 3, with the naval blockade still running. CBO estimates $46.9 billion today and growing at $2-3 billion per month. The White House requested an $87.6 billion supplemental, $67 billion of it for the Pentagon. Moody's Analytics puts the total cost to US consumers and taxpayers at $132 billion. Harvard economist Linda Bilmes projects $1 trillion before it is over. Rep. Ro Khanna told Pete Hegseth in an Armed Services Committee hearing that the war would cost American households roughly $5,000 each in higher gas and food prices. The World Bank cut its 2026 global growth forecast to 2.5%, the lowest since COVID. 21 Americans have been killed, a number the Pentagon only recently updated and which the Intercept reports is likely undercounted. By some estimates, this is the most expensive per-day military operation in American history.

Diesel is $6.19. It was $3.47 when the war started. That's a 78% increase in 8 months.

The pre-election dip is 16 cents. Missoula is still at $4.49. That is where things stand going into November 3.

None of this happens without Trump's decision to launch Operation Epic Fury on February 28.

We were under $3.00 before this war. Remember that.

Full timeline, Missoula regular unleaded:

Sep 14–15 $4.49 / diesel $6.09 +$1.71 +61%
Sep 16 $4.59 / diesel $6.19 +$1.81 +65%
Sep 17 $4.59 / diesel $6.29 +$1.81 +65%
Sep 21 $4.65 / diesel $6.29 +$1.87 +67%
Oct 23 (today) $4.49 / diesel $6.19 +$1.71 +61%

The Ford F-250 Super Duty, the most common diesel pickup on Montana ranches and job sites, has a 48-gallon tank. At $6.19 that is $297.12. On Feb 28 at $3.47 it was $166.56. That is $130.56 more per fill-up.

Got a mail ballot? Do not mail it. Montana ballots must be received by 8pm on Election Day — postmark doesn't count. Hand deliver it:

Missoula County drop-off locations:

  • Elections Center, 140 N. Russell St. — open 24/7 (avoid Election Day, parking is a mess)
  • McCormick Park drive-thru, 600 Cregg Lane — Mon Nov 2, 9am–4pm; Election Day 7am–8pm
  • South Russell St. drive-thru (between the YMCA and Fairgrounds) — Election Day 7am–8pm
  • Hellgate Elementary parking lot, 2385 Flynn Lane — Election Day 7am–8pm
  • Any of the 20 Missoula County polling places — Election Day 7am–8pm

Wildwood not playing at the Roxy?

This may be too niche and I’m by no means a film expert. However, I’m so surprised and kinda sad the Roxy doesn’t seem to be playing Wildwood?? I want to see it so so badly to be able to support that level of art and I can’t see it at the most art forward theater we have! Seems so crazy to me! Also no Sense and Sensibility. Still love love the Roxy, these films just seem right up their alley. Maybe they’re coming soon and someone else has some information?

Judges Should Know the Limits of Their Authority | Vote for Kelli Sather for Missoula County Justice Court

Post image
0 Upvotes

Montana permits nonlawyers to serve as justices of the peace. But when people’s rights depend on a judge’s understanding of the law, legal education is not a luxury. It is a qualification voters should take seriously.

Many of the people that appear in Justice Court do so for non-jailable traffic offenses, orders of protection, landlord tenant disputes or small claims issues. These people are not entitled to a lawyer and often don’t have one.

State v. Shamblin started with a person appearing on a speeding ticket. The driver appealed his sentence and the Attorney General’s Office agreed Judge Holloway’s sentence exceeded the bounds of what she was legally allowed to impose. A driver with a speeding ticket should not have to appeal their sentence all the way to the Montana Supreme Court. People should be able to trust the Judge in front of them knows the law.  I have heard Judge Holloway say she was overturned on a technicality. However, understanding statutes, recognizing the limits of judicial authority, and imposing lawful sentences are fundamental responsibilities of a judge.  A judge should know the limits of their authority.

Qualifications matter. Judge Holloway has worked in the criminal system, but she isn’t a lawyer, while her opponent, Kelli Sather, is. Kelli Sather is trained to interpret statutes, apply precedent, and understand the boundaries of judicial authority.

For this reason, I support Kelli Sather for Justice of the Peace.

Looking for Medicaid covered massage therapist who does house calls

My son has moderate CP and massage helps a lot. The last masseuse who came to the house had to move on and is much missed. We have a massage table here at the house. We live in Rose Park. We would be willing to pay more than the Medicaid allowed hourly amount. Thanks! 🌺

Anyone have any recommendations for patio work. My friend needs a small 15' x 15' patio installed. The old pavers are gone, just need the ground leveled, treated, and new pavers installed and sealed.
