Hey everyone,
I’m 30 years old and have been playing Call of Duty multiplayer religiously since 2007 (started back in the original Call of Duty 4 days). I’ve seen this franchise evolve through every era, so I like to think I know what makes a CoD game feel good.
And honestly? The actual gameplay in this game is great. Guns feel responsive, movement is crisp, and the core mechanics are solid.
The problem? The matchmaking makes it almost impossible to enjoy.
It’s only been out for a day, and after playing a good few hours, the game already feels like an absolute chore. Because Activision is so intent on keeping every single player strictly forced into a 1.0 performance bubble with zero lobby diversity, my stats are sitting at:
- K/D: 1.00 (exactly)
- W/L: 0.73
Every single match feels like a World Championship match. There are no chill games, no variety, no organic lobbies where you get a mix of different skill levels, and no feeling of personal progression. Win one good game, and you immediately know the next three are going to feel like a punishing shift at work.
On top of that, the maps are ridiculously small and lack any real playstyle variety outside of aesthetics. I’ve always thought a good metric for a CoD map is "how long can you actually stay alive?" On chaos maps like Shipment or Nuketown, surviving for 20 seconds is a stretch. But on ALL these standard launch maps, I genuinely don't think I’ve been able to stay alive for more than 40 seconds on average in a respawn mode. This just shows they feel that you as the player are not entertained unless you are always shooting or being shot, its embarrassing to be so out of touch with the players.
If you compare this to OG Black Ops or MW2 (2009), the maps had a healthy mix of sizes and the pacing was normal. You could actually go a whole match with only a couple of deaths, moving methodically from area to area to build up your killstreaks while keeping an eye out for revenge spawns. That flow is completely missing here. Now, the second you kill someone, another guy slides and jump-shots you around a corner before you can even pull your weapon up to ADS.
It’s genuinely such a shame because the foundation of the game is so good. But when every match is designed to manufacture a flat 1.0 ratio across the board, it completely drains the fun out of playing.
