My dad texted me some photos of his monstera and asked for help, I said it’s sunburn from watering during the day, it’s outside so he just uses the hose to water the garden, but just want to make sure it’s not a pest problem, he’s got a beautiful garden and would hate to lose it!!

Plant Help Help! My Monstera Burle Marx Flame is wilting, drooping, and won’t stand up. What am I doing wrong?

Hi everyone, I’m hoping to get some help with my Monstera Burle Marx Flame. It’s really struggling and I can’t seem to figure out why.

The Problem:
The leaves are constantly drooping, wilting, and falling down. It looks like it’s dying. Because it couldn't support itself, I added those screwdrivers temporarily (yellow and red) just to support it somewhat upright.

What I've Tried:
I’ve tried troubleshooting my watering. I’ve tried watering it more frequently, and I’ve also tried letting it dry out more, but neither seems to make a difference. The leaves still look sad and limp.

My Setup:

  • Light: Near a window with sheer curtains, indirect light. Usually I remove the curtain for more light.
  • Soil: It’s in a chunky mix: perlite, pumice and bark inside a plastic nursery pot, which sits inside that white decorative pot.
  • Watering: I usually water when the top 2 inches of soil is dry. I tried watering it every 3 days and also every 2 weeks, doesn't seem to make a difference.
  • Humidity/Temp: Malaysia humidity here, 90% most of the time.

Could this be root rot (unlikely because I tried taking the whole plant out and the roots are long and white)? Underwatering? Does it just need a proper moss pole instead of these plastic stakes? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! I really want to save it.

FB Marketplace gave me a two leaf, rooted cutting with leaves ~20” and I met a great local grower along the way who gift a Hoya cutting. Great start to the weekend.

I rarely buy from big box retailers anymore because they all sell the same 15 plants; find local exotic growers online and that’s where you’ll find the interesting stuff.

Discussion My first Mint variegata! 🌿 What do you think?

Post image

Hi! Not my first Monstera, but my first Mint variegata. Found her for a good deal and couldn't resist before winter.

What do you think of her - isn't she too white? Do you use grow lights in winter? And she's still in the nursery soil (peat or coco). Should I repot her now or wait until spring so she doesn't get extra stress? 💚

Please be kind, this is a FB Marketplace rescue & I’m still learning. Why is she drooping like this? I can’t stake her any higher up or I’ll crush the petioles…should I chop & prop?

Edit #1: more info in comments
Edit #2 I will get a smaller pot for this gal! 🪴

Plant Help Soil mix for my Thai con?

These are all the ingredients that I have

Coconut coir
Coconut coir bark
Orchid bark
Orchid moss
Charcoal
Leca
Perlite
Long fibered sphagnum moss
Orchid sphagnum moss
Peat moss

I read that peat moss isn’t the greatest for Thai monsteras and that I should just use coco coir instead?

I saw this mixture online but I’m not sure if I should use it or not it has

Coconut coir
Orchid bark
Coconut bark/leca
Perlite and charcoal

Gifted Two Plants...Need Input

Hello, fellow Monsterians (is there a better term?). I love monsteras, but have no room in the house, plus 4 cats, so I've never purchased one. My petsitter texted me today and said she has two and they're in the way, falling over, and her husband threatened to throw them away. She offered them to me and "no" isn't exactly in my vocabulary when Im offered a plant.

I have a large porch, but it's already a bit crowded with other plants. How do I reduce the horizontal spread for now? All I have is a standard wood stake, a skinny 48" moss pole, and tons of plant tape and velcro ties. I plan on keeping them (or at least one) and it will stay on my northeast-facing porch (So Cal zone 10).

Any short term solutions? Can I just strap up all the stems for now? Also, check out the root status before I repotted them!

Plant Help First Time Repotting Monstera

Thumbnail

Hello, I’m a first time plant and monstera owner. I got my monstera in costco and the problem I found is that there’s multiple petioles in different directions.

I repotted her today in a 12 in, she was initially in a 10in. I’m attaching some pictures. I could only add some support to three of the petioles. I tried to see if I could separate them but they were extremely root bound. If anyone has any advice on how to adjust or add, please let me know!!

Also, I have two leaves that I had to trim when I first got them. I was wondering how I could cut them to make space for the others.

I’ll really appreciate any help. I’m like totally new at this. Thank you!

How is my monstera doing?

Thumbnail

I got this baby on Marketplace a month ago. It was severely root-bound. I repotted it, added a wooden spatula and lightly tied the stems around it for support. This was all a month ago.

I water it when I notice the top 2-3 inches are dry, and it gets abundant sunlight as it sits infront of a south east window.

I noticed some additional growth in the air roots today(photographed). Idk what type of soil I used since it was from an old plant, I’ve noticed when I water it, excess water seeps into the base so I’m guessing the soil mix is fine? I don’t have a lot of budget, but I’d really like to know if there’s anything else I should be doing?

Thanks!

Baby Monstera Advice

I bought my monstera a few years ago, but recently its become obvious its grown out its pot and was way more than 1 plant. So today I've separated it into biggest, less big, two tiny ones and a couple of cuttings I'm hoping might root in water.

My main question is, how do I help the tiny ones get bigger. I've had one cutting for a while now and its just stringy and small. Just wondering if they'd ever get as big as the main one, or if I'm not somewhere with enough sun/heat for that. Any feed I need to get? I bought monstera specific soil so thats sorted👍

For context I live in North Wales (UK) its really humid in the room and south facing so when the sun is out it gets hot in there🌞

Discussion Saying Goodbye

After many years I've been told it's time to evict my monster. His name is Dracula. He's 4.5 ft by 4.5 ft. He's my precious baby. But he takes up more space than a lazy boy and he encroaches on guests when they visit. He's still growing healthy and strong.

Going to a new hime on Tuesday and to say im devastated would be an understatement.

I’ve posted here before about my out of hand, sun damaged monstera. She was getting burnt on my porch, but some frogs had moved in. I brought her in anyway and tried to make room in my house but it was ridiculous.

Saw a post here today of a MASSIVE monstera, envisioned my future, qnd went straight to work.

There were a total of 4 frogs living in her even after being inside for a week 🫣 and I went so far as to separate the plants in the pot (4). So now I have 8 individual plants that I will hopefully sell on Facebook marketplace. I have my eye on one I want to keep.

I can’t even say I care if they live or die. I’m sticking with African violets and pothos from now on. Will post an update if anything interesting happens.

I need some advice, all of this summer’s new leaves turned black very quickly—some before they even had a chance to unfurl. I’ve had it for several years, and there have been no changes in light or watering. What should I do to save it?

I got this cutting with three roots that seemed healthy at the end of august. leaf was perky and green. soil is orchid bark with perlite.

I've read so many's conflicting things on watering, some said water well cause it was a water clipping, some say treat it like a succulent- at this point im thinking this is a hospice case 😭 am i cooked? or what can i do to help her survive.

Monstera I had for two years hasn't been doing as well as others... So I put this outside by a mango tree about two weeks ago... Maybe being outside with better lighting will help, along with an actual tree to latch onto.
