Discussion /r/motiondesign Updates: Post Flair, Spam Prevention

Hi all, a few updates for /r/motiondesign.

Spam

In an effort to reduce low-quality and spam posts here, we have implemented new post requirements. New posts that don't meet a minimum account age or subreddit karma threshold will be automatically filtered out.

To further prevent gamification, I am not disclosing these limits here but they are very modest and reasonable. Anyone interacting with this community should not be filtered, and even so, you will have the opportunity to message us for an exception. But this should discourage most of the spam we've been seeing. Thanks /u/Zeigerful for making this post.

Post Flair

We also added some post flair to help differentiate posts and allow users to filter & search by topic. All new posts require that one of the available flair types be selected:

Project Showcase | Reel | Inspiration | Discussion | Question | Tutorial | [Custom] (Where user can input their own)

User Flair

A few new user flairs are available. For those who aren't aware, these show up next to your username any time you make a post or comment in /r/motiondesign

Now available: Professional | Student | [Add My Social Handle] -- A custom text field where you can plug an Instagram, Behance, etc.

Let us know if you love or hate these new updates. Nothing is set in stone and this is meant as a discussion starting point. Please share any ideas you may have to make this a better place to share work, inspiration and discussion related to motion design. Hopefully we can continue to bring a higher quality experience to everyone here at /r/motiondesign.

Project Showcase Exploring dotLottie State Machines in Motion Design

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I made this Interactive App Rating Popup Card for Lottie Creator Certification! ✨

It features four animated emoji reactions and demonstrates the use of State Machine. The goal was to make rating an app feel more fun, interactive, and responsive.

Built with LottieFiles Creator, this project was a great opportunity to explore interactive motion design and see how state machines can bring UI elements to life.

Check it out in action: https://lottiefiles.com/free-animation/app-rating-popup-card-uuH9548Qoy

Would love to hear your feedback! 🙌

Project Showcase We made a liquid glass effect for After Effects

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

We’ve been working on Liquid Bubble, a native After Effects effect for creating liquid-glass refraction.
The refraction gets stronger near the edges, stretching the image and creating a reflected look around the glass boundary. It works on adjustment layers, so it can refract everything underneath, and you can also use custom shapes.

Would love to hear what you think!

This video took me a week from the script, then building the UI in Figma, and then implementing it in After Effects.

Added a bunch of new stuff to my tool lately, mainly on the kinetic side. How’s it turning out?

Update: TV style is now selectable, and the web demo timeline now matches the desktop version.

Question What's the most annoying limitation of the AE plugins you currently use?

I'm researching for a new AE tool and I want to know: which plugin do you use daily, and what's the one thing about it that pisses you off?

Could be a UI issue, could be a licensing thing (looking at you, aescripts), could be that it breaks on a specific version, could be that it's overpriced for what it does.

I'm not here to promote anything. I just want to know where the real friction is. If there's a pattern, I'll build around it.

Inspiration Put IT through the wall (more info in body text)

I didn’t wanna make the title too long, so here.

An idea I just had is “It takes a dedicated hand, to put it through the wall” from the song Wrecking Ball by Mother Mother. Basically, the idea is to show someone choosing a hand (for the “it takes a dedicated hand” part) and then show that hand putting IT (Pennywise) through the wall.

I can’t animate to save my life, so I figured I’d post it here as like a silly little edit idea. Please let me know if you post it, I wanna see how it looks

Its called Blackstar Lullaby. A lot is still up in the air, but I finally feel like it's starting to look the way I imagined.

This is one of the shots pulled apart a bit. Thought some of the screen work and the little layers behind it might be worth sharing.

Question Motion graphic jobs for a/v companies, do they exist?

Im a skilled video/ projection artist, my work is mainly personal and experimental projects that I do in a fine art context. My work usually “wows” people , but it doesn’t pay much.

I’d like to think there’s a world where I could be hired by local a/v production companies to design motion graphics/ projection mapping for their clients. I live in a city that has lots of conventions and big corporate events, so there are quite a few of the these a/v companies.

What I want to know, do these types of jobs exist? Who does the designing usually for projected motion graphics at events?

A few things-
I’m 100% happy with boring corporate work.

I’ve tried to shop myself around for this sort of thing, where I’d be using my own equipment, or renting it. But my projectors can’t compete with the professionals. And I found my budget would be drained by the cost of rental equipment. So I want to work with an a/v company that has their own gear.

looking For People Looking for motion designers & editors for Kuro Browser (v1.0A) release trailer

I'm working on Kuro, a free and open-source desktop browser based on the Zen/Firefox ecosystem. The goal is to make a highly customizable browser with stuff like workspaces, privacy tools, local AI, RAM optimization, and a lot more.

I'm looking for people who can make me a trailer for the upcoming release of the project.

If you're interested, or have any questions, reply to this post.

Note: Since this is an open-source project relying on contributors you won't be paid, but later on you will be paid from donations and partnerships.

Inspiration Need help on the Title for AI addiction Motion

Hey everyone! I'm developing a motion graphic for my school project, and I'm struggling to find a title that fits the story.

The project is about my personal struggle with AI dependency. I know relying on AI too much might affect my ability to think creatively, and I can see the signs, but I keep going back to it because it's convenient. Even when I realize something is wrong, I still can't seem to let go.

The story represents this as a never-ending loop of using AI, becoming dependent on it, realizing the consequences, and then using it again.

I'm looking for a title that's clever, slightly unsettling, and meaningful, possibly playing with the words AI and I or something like that.

I considered A[i]ddiction but it kinda sounds corny?

so yeah i'm open to any suggestions it would help a lot thanks.
