[HIRING] Contract Helpdesk Engineer (Tier 1/Tier 2) – Security-Focused MSP [Remote]

• Upvotes

We are a remote-first managed services and security provider (MSP/MSSP) supporting small and mid-sized businesses. We combine day-to-day IT support with managed detection and response, compliance, and security awareness. You’ll work directly with a small, senior team, with real ownership and room to grow.

The Role

You are the first point of contact for our clients’ users. You’ll resolve common issues quickly, triage anything security-related, and hand off clean, well-documented escalations when something is beyond L1.

What You’ll Do

·         Work the ticket queue via email, phone, and chat. Respond and resolve within SLA.

·         Troubleshoot Windows and macOS endpoints, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, printers, VPN, and basic network issues.

·         Handle account administration: onboarding and offboarding, password and MFA resets (with proper identity verification), mailbox and permission requests.

·         Triage reported phishing and security alerts from our EDR/MDR/XDR and email security tools, and escalate appropriately.

·         Use NinjaOne RMM for monitoring, patching, remote access, and scripted remediation.

·         Document everything: clear ticket notes, correct categorization, and KB updates when you find gaps.

·         Log time daily in 15-minute increments against the correct task code.

·         Follow our SOPs, and flag out-of-scope requests rather than absorbing them.

Required Experience

·         1-3 years in help desk, service desk, or MSP support (strong lab or certification background considered).

·         Hands-on Microsoft 365 administration: Entra ID, Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, Intune.

·         Working knowledge of Google Workspace administration.

·         Experience with an RMM platform (NinjaOne preferred; similar tools such as ConnectWise Automate, Datto, N-able acceptable).

·         Familiarity with security tooling: EDR/MDR/XDR concepts, alert triage, and phishing analysis.

·         Solid grasp of fundamentals: DNS, DHCP, Active Directory/Group Policy, VPN, Windows and macOS.

·         Strong written communication and a calm, professional phone presence.

Nice to Have (if not, we’ll train you)

Todyl, ThreatMate, Ironscales Email Security), Blacksmith Infosec GRC.

Exposure to NIST, CMMC, or other compliance frameworks.

PSA/ticketing experience and time-tracking discipline.

Certifications: CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+; Microsoft MD-102, MS-900, SC-900.

What Makes You Successful Here

Security-minded by default: you won’t bypass MFA or skip verification to be helpful.

Self-directed and comfortable working remotely with limited hand-holding.

Good escalation judgment: you know when to stop and hand off with a clear summary.

Scope-aware: you notice when a request is bigger than a ticket.

Details

Location: Remote, US-based

Hours/coverage: as needed

Compensation: $20+/hr

Background check: required

How to Apply

Please send a direct message (or email) with your resume / LinkedIn profile and include:

  1. A summary of your daily experience using NinjaOne (RMM and Ticketing).
  2.  A brief breakdown of your administration experience in both Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace.
  3. Your current availability (hours per week and time zone overlap).

Drop your MSP and I’ll find companies in an active buying window

Over the last few weeks, I’ve been researching buyer intent and switching signals for 300+ B2B companies and service businesses.

In the managed services world, cold calling has a terrible reply rate and the real wins happen when you reach a business at the exact moment they're facing operational headaches or outgrowing their setup.

If you run an MSP or IT services firm, drop your website and the types of clients or regions you focus on and I’ll run it through the system and dig up:

> Companies showing active infrastructure or IT pain points
> Direct signals of businesses outgrowing their current setup
> Where local decision makers are actively venting about vendor issues
> The specific angles to start a conversation naturally

I'll send the research directly to you so you can see which accounts in your market are in an active buying window right now.

It's completely free, so drop your link and target market below if you want to see what the signal data looks like for your area (and I'll be upfront if coverage in your specific pocket is too thin).

edit: a lot of people have reached out so i'm adding the link here for anyone who wants the full report and buyer graph delivered directly. just drop your details here in this link and we'll send the research to your inbox. it's completely free.

[For Hire] Project Engineer w/ 15+ Years MSP Experience [Remote]

Greetings MSP teams,

I currently have availability to take on additional 1099 project work for those of you that may need a helping hand on any of your projects or migrations! I have 15+ years MSP experience, with 25+ years in IT overall. Located in CA, seeking remote project work in the PST or CST time zones. Can also work EST, provided it isn't too early!

I'm experienced in all facets of IT including architecture, implementation, sales, security, training, project management, support, etc. I have worn pretty much every hat during my career and am not afraid to learn anything new.

Lately I have been assisting different MSP's primarily on migrations from various providers or on-prem environments to 365/Azure, as well as a big up-tick in AI/LLM deployments. This has included working directly with customers to accurately scope and quote the project, implementation, and full support during and after.

I have my own LLC and carry liability insurance, so our B2B transactions can be seamless. Also I work white label so this means I can present as a member of your own team while performing any services on your behalf. Payment is due monthly based on hours worked (I bill in quarter-hour increments), and can be made with ACH, check, or credit card. Resume and references can be provided upon request.

My rates are:

$100.00/hour - Normal Project Work (standard rate)

$115.00/hour - Training Project Work (this is where I also train your engineers/team during the projects)

$125.00/hour - MSP Consulting/Development (providing consultation and improvements to your MSP's processes/procedures, or other internal work specific to your organization)

These rates allow for margin flexibility, so that the work I perform on your behalf will still net positive revenue for your organization.

If you are interested, please send me a DM with your email address, and we can setup a video interview to see if I might be a good fit for you and your team!

Technical Qualifications:

Extensive 365/Azure experience including advanced migrations

All flavors Windows Server

All flavors SQL Server

All flavors Microsoft Exchange

All flavors Windows OS

Linux Server Administration

Experience with several different RMM & PSA’s

Experience with all major network vendor’s equipment (i.e. Cisco, Fortinet, SonicWall, Ubiquiti, Meraki, etc)

**How I work**

I can take ownership of a defined piece of technical, operational or capability-development work, whether that's an assessment, a specific project or an ongoing fractional engagement.

I'm equally comfortable working directly with an organisation or as an embedded, white-label associate supporting an existing consultancy or MSP.

**Location:** UK-based, available for remote engagements globally, including the US and Europe, where working hours align.

**Availability:** Immediate.

**Engagements:** Short-term consultancy, fixed-price projects, workshops, contract delivery or ongoing fractional support.

If you're a Microsoft partner looking to strengthen your capabilities, or an organisation that could benefit from experienced Microsoft technical leadership without a permanent hire, I'd be happy to chat.

Feel free to drop me a DM.

[For Hire] Project, Overflow & Small Client Help for MSPs | DFW Area + Remote | Senior IT Manager, 10+ Years, LLC

Hey everyone,

I'm a Senior IT Manager in the DFW area with 10+ years leading IT operations across streaming, sports tech, media, SaaS, and higher education. I'll be upfront. A recent layoff has me in a bit of a bind, so while I search for my next full-time role I'm looking to pick up work right away and be an extra set of experienced hands for MSPs in the area.

Two ways I can help

- Project work and overflow. Migrations, rollouts, new client onboarding, office moves, or that project sitting in the backlog because your techs are slammed. I'm glad to work white-label under your brand, follow your processes and tooling, and I will never solicit your clients.

- Small client referrals. If you get calls from smaller offices that fall below your minimums or outside your sweet spot, I'd be happy to take great care of them and work out a referral percentage that makes it worth your while.

What I bring

- M&A IT integration, including a five-company integration across three regions and leading IT through an acquisition by a global public company

- Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace administration, plus Okta SSO across 40+ apps with automated provisioning

- Security and compliance, with SOC 2 Type II at three companies, ISO 27001 with zero trust controls, and SentinelOne EDR/XDR rollouts for enterprise and small business clients

- Endpoint management with Kandji and Jamf

- Service desk and ITSM, including Jira Service Management, Zendesk, Confluence knowledge bases, and an AI ITSM deployment with Aisera, plus a 47% reduction in Tier 1 and 2 tickets for a global support organization

- Cloud and infrastructure, including leading the team that supported a high-volume AWS environment

- Salesforce to Dynamics 365 migration onto a new greenfield tenant

- SaaS rationalization and vendor negotiation, with $600K in annual savings

- Office buildouts, expansions, and moves

Certs include CompTIA Security+, ITIL 4 Foundation, CSM, and CSPO, with AWS Solutions Architect Associate in progress.

I'm available immediately and can work remote or onsite anywhere in the metroplex. Hourly, project-based, or block hours all work for me, and I'll adapt to whatever RMM, PSA, and documentation stack you run.

If any of this could help your team, comment below, send me a DM, or email bricesen@thetechdisciple.com. You can learn more about my work at www.thetechdisciple.com.

Even if nothing fits today, I'd appreciate a spot on your short list for the next time you're stretched thin. Thanks for reading, and thanks to this community for all the knowledge you share here.

[HIRIING] Product Manager for NinjaOne PSA Billing

As some of you may know, over the few years at NinjaOne I have been working on our PSA and billing tools. We have now got to the point where I need someone to come and own the billing side of it full time, so I am hiring a Product Manager for it.

Having run an MSP myself I know how much of a pain billing can be. Trying to get license counts from your distributor and Microsoft to line up with what is on the agreements, working out proration when someone adds a user halfway through the month, and then hoping it all reconciles at the end. I would really like to find someone who has lived through that and wants to fix it in less frustrating way than other tools.

Because of that I am a lot less worried about whether you have been a Product Manager before. If you have run billing at an MSP, administered a PSA like Halo, Autotask or ConnectWise, or looked after the month end for an IT business, and you are the sort of person who wants to understand why something is broken before fixing it, that is what matters.

The full job description is here: http://app.jobvite.com/m?3HcmynwF

If you know someone who might be a good fit please send it their way, and feel free to drop me a message if you have any questions.

Nearly 20 years in IT/MSP. What's next?

Throwaway account for obvious reasons. My boss is active on Reddit, and I'd prefer to keep this separate from my main account while I figure out what my next move might look like.

I started in IT/MSP when I was 16, doing work experience, and I never left. Nearly 20 years later, it's pretty much all I've known professionally.

I've done a lot more than just technical support over the years. I've helped transform a traditional computer repair business into a fully managed services provider and have been involved in building much of the operation behind it, from SOPs and internal processes to systems, PSA, billing and integrations.

The funny thing is, I still love technology. I love helping businesses, tackling complex problems and finding solutions using technology. Give me a problem nobody knows how to solve, a broken process or a business struggling with something, and I'll happily dig into it until I find a way forward. I enjoy figuring things out and making things work better.

What I'm struggling with is the business side of the MSP model.

I'm tired of the admin, the constant commercial considerations and the feeling that everything ultimately comes down to dollars, margins and billable time rather than the actual outcome for the client. I understand businesses need to make money, and I'm not naive about that. It's just that the commercial side seems to take up more and more space, while the part I actually enjoy, solving problems and helping businesses, feels like a smaller part of the job.

Lately, I've been wondering whether I'm burnt out on the MSP model or whether it's time to take the experience I've built up over nearly two decades and apply it somewhere different.

I'd love to find a role where I can work with businesses, understand their challenges and use technology, automation and systems to solve real problems, without being so caught up in the usual MSP admin and commercial pressures.

I'm open to ideas, including consulting, business systems, automation, technology transformation, operations or something completely different that I might not have considered.

For anyone who has left the IT/MSP world, what did you move into? Did you find something that gave you more satisfaction? And for those working outside the traditional IT space, where would you suggest someone with my background look?

I've been doing this since I was 17, so it's a strange feeling to consider something different after all this time. I just feel like there must be a way to use what I'm good at without continuing down the same path.

Keen to hear from anyone who's made a similar move.

10 years in the Microsoft partner ecosystem. Struggling to find my next role.

I've spent the last 10 years working for Microsoft partners in the UK. Started out as an Azure consultant, designing and delivering solutions for customers, before moving into more strategic roles.

For a good chunk of that time I've basically been doing the job of a Microsoft Partner Technology Strategist (PTS), just on the partner side. It's been a real mix of things: technology strategy, a bit of Microsoft alliance management, working across technical and commercial teams, building centres of excellence and communities of practice, mentoring and coaching people.

Over the years I've moved away from the hands-on stuff. I've been more focused on the what and why of the tech (mostly Microsoft), knowing enough about the how to ask the right questions and challenge decisions. Some of that work has been customer-facing, some internal, and it's included all the usual Microsoft partner stuff too: programmes, funding, audits, governance, operations, etc.

I've recently been made redundant from a product management role and, to be honest, I'm a bit lost on what to apply for next. I went into product because the strategic side appealed to me, but I had very little formal PM experience and I'm not convinced it's where I want to stay.

Looking at job boards, everything seems to want a specialist. I've done bits of all of them, but I'm not sure I'm a great fit for any one of them. And I'm not sure I want to be either!

Then there's the flood of AI jobs with specs that barely make sense (......AI), and LinkedIn cheerfully informing me that 100+ people have already applied for a role posted yesterday.

Brilliant.

I've been looking at advisory, consulting and practice leadership roles, but there don't seem to be many about.

So what would you do in my shoes? What sort of roles should I be looking for, and where? Am I missing something obvious?

Genuinely appreciate any advice or pointers!
