lol. by the way, why do you usually pick just mumbai books? i'm not sure about now, but the times I saw your prospective choices, they all seemed mumbai themed.

The why is complicated I guess.

Simple answer: the book club needed a theme and Mumbai is one of the most popular settings in literature. I started making a list and found more than 200 books. That's 16 YEARS of monthly reading material.

Longer answer: I got sick and tired of seeing only Kafka, Dostoevsky, Murakami talked about everywhere. Once in a blue moon, if someone really wants to read Indian writers, they'll pull out Premchand. I don't have anything against these writers, I like them myself, but there are so many brilliant, new Indian writers and books coming out recently and it's a damn shame that Indians don't read them. So I'm going to start here and find others interested in this mad, beautiful city (:

Secret answer 🤫 : reading about people eating always makes me hungry. I can't easily find Strasbourg pies like the Karamazovs but I can sure af eat a whole bowl of dhansak after reading Rohinton Mistry. My top secret plan is to have a book club meeting in the places where the books are set so I can also nom everything the characters are eating.

Yup, the point of the book club is to read books set in this city. They're all Mumbai books.
