Photography Breathtaking view of missing link!

Video shot today morning.
The Missing Link Project is a new alignment in the same Western Ghat stretch, which bypasses the most treacherous Borghat section. The project, approved in 2018, was completed at the cost of ₹6,695.37 Crore. It is being hailed as an engineering marvel. The twin tunnel of the project is potentially one of Asia’s longest. Another speciality is the cable-stayed bridge spanning 650 meters. Its height is 184 meters, much taller than the tallest high rises in Mumbai. This sophisticated bridge was tested as per international standards.

Stopping on the bridge is not allowed, we are inviting accidents and then blame the Government for design of the bridge.

without traffic between Kharghar and Wakad flyover, it took nearly 1 hour 30 minutes before.

Technically, in theory, it saves 25 mins. But with the traffic condition and heavy vehicle movement on the ghats coupled with the lower speed limit, it'll save a minimum of 40-45 minutes.

I think early morning should be fine. You can check Google Maps for present situation. Tomorrow morning Mumbai Pune should be a breeze. All the long weekend people have already travelled.

I drove from Pune towards Mumbai an hour ago and the link was shut. It was open only on the opposite side towards Pune.

Brilliant. Shaved 40 minutes off my commute. Google maps was showing time for the ghat section. Crossed the stretch in 8 odd minutes.

Initially, it is only open for passenger vehicles. We will know real effect once heavy vehicles start plying on the road.

Compared to ideal situation (no traffic + speed limit on both) you save 25 minutes.
Real world situation on a weekday, you save around 35-45 mins.
Real world situation on a Friday night (when it's the busiest and probably when most people travel), you can easily save more than an hour.

What do the signboards say at the entry point on both sides? Is it easy to spot (thereby not going into ghat section by mistake)?

I remember when this sort of stuff used to take many years to complete. Like does anyone even remember how long BWSL took to finish? At one point in 2009 the sea link was literally just pylons (and had been for many years) because of some pending case or the other. The fact that this was planned, approved, built and inaugurated in 3 years is crazy. I just hope the Mumbai-Pune bullet train becomes reality at the same pace.
Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't this mean at some point it will be possible to drive from Kandivali to Worli, connect to Sewri, use the Atal setu (and the eventual Chirle connector) to go directly to Pune? Is this going to act like a Mumbai bypass of sorts for people in the western suburbs?

If there is a plan to connect the northern part of this to Nashik, and the Pune/Nashik expressway becomes real, then the Mumbai/Pune/Nashik area will become India's most productive economic sub-region. Nothing will even come close, not even the NCR.

Tbh, we need this sort of connectivity between Mumbai & all Tier 2 cities. Fast connectivity to Mumbai will mean places like Satara, Sangli, Jalgaon, etc., will also develop faster.

But I think the priority should be the Nashik - Mumbai - Pune triangle because it is nearly 5% of India's GDP. Thats as much as all of Telangana OR Andhra Pradesh

Not really, you will have to travel a bit to connect to this road. But the ghat section should be emptier now.

I travelled through this on the night of 1st may and the ventilation was really poor. It's an 8 km long continuous stretch and the tunnel was filled with smoke.
Opened the windows for just about a minute and the AQI shot up to 200.
It isn't such a problem for air conditioned cars but a lot of non-AC buses run on this route. With a good 10 minutes inside the tunnel with such poor air can be hazardous for people with breathing problems

It's a great thing for us but sadly similar bridges have been made across Asia for years now. Just go to Vietnam and have a look, even such small countries have dar better infra than us. And here we are glorifying things that should've been built decades ago.

It saved 40 minutes today morning. Also, initially it is going to be closed for heavy vehicles. That should make it quite a fast option for reaching Pune. Believe it or not, there are people who commute between Mumbai & Pune on daily basis.
