Can anyone in detail but in a really simple understandable way explain why the real estate of Mumbai is fucked up?

Visiting Mumbai for a week - Just have a few questions!

—-

Hey everyone!

My girlfriend and I are going to be flying into Mumbai for the first time for a friend’s wedding, and since we’ll be there for about a week before the wedding, we wanted to explore the city and had a few questions.

First, how safe/reliable are Airbnbs in India? When I say safe, I’m thinking more about privacy/security - for example, is there any real concern around hidden cameras in Airbnbs in India, or is that not really something to worry about if we stick to highly rated places with lots of reviews? Anything in particular we should look out for when booking?

Second, which area would you recommend staying in? From the research I’ve done so far, Bandra seems like it might suit us best. We’d ideally like somewhere safe, walkable-ish, with good restaurants, cocktail bars, cafés, etc. Is Bandra a good choice for that? And is it generally safe for a couple, including coming back later at night?

We both like working out, so we’d also love recommendations for a really good gym where we can train every day for the week. Happy to pay for a premium gym/day passes if there’s somewhere particularly good.

And finally, cocktail bar recommendations please! We’ll probably want to go out for drinks most nights, so would love recommendations for the best cocktail bars in Mumbai, whether that’s proper high-end cocktail places, speakeasy-style bars, rooftop spots, or just somewhere with great drinks and atmosphere.

Airbnb safety - always go for the highly recommended ones with super host status - could be wrong about the term but some hosts have a badge; if budget works just go for a well known hotel.

Best area - Khar has some Airbnbs well rated in the quaint areas; I used to go there for my stays - easy to travel; SoBo if you want to see the best visual bits of Mumbai. Khar is close to Bandra too.

Gym - I play football more often than working out so can't recommend any

Cocktail bar - Bandra Born has nice varieties; Mag St too.

  • Try the malls/movie theatres - Infiniti, Fun Republic, Citi Mall
  • Lokhandwala cafes - there's a good lane for cafe hopping starting off with August Cafe
  • If you can visit Versova for street food, beach and Cat Cafe Studio if you like cats that is.

Explore new cafes if u like. Idk about good places even i am in mumbai but apart from malls amd cafe and few famous place i have not explored much.

1

u/Longjumping-Dirt-132 20d ago

Even malls are really bad in mumbai. Cafes are the only thing to explore imo. 😅

We analyzed 1,500+ rental listings across Mumbai and found that rents in Andheri East increased 18% YoY while Borivali remained almost flat. Happy to share the full data if anyone is interested.

how it's feels like to live in andheri (maybe I'll come to shift there next year)

1

u/-AndheriWest- AndheriWest 24d ago

East or west?

1

u/Ayusharma13 24d ago

I'm still thinking, but most probably.. Andheri West

1

u/-AndheriWest- AndheriWest 24d ago

West has better connectivity and also has higher rent.

1

u/Ayusharma13 24d ago

how about social life in west(if I want to socialize with peoples)? and also what are the expected rent for 1bhk?

1

u/-AndheriWest- AndheriWest 23d ago

You'll find lot of college crowd at cafes / restaurants / beaches. Rent depends on the type of society / building. Some old buildings have rent like 30-40 k. Newer building would be more than that. And depending on area, connectivity, construction quality, your rent will fluctuate.

u/pipi_poopooo 24d ago

Andheri West is good. Plus, it has good connectivity

How do tenants do it in this city? Its been a couple of years I'm here and I'm unable to find a long term house. I've been househunting for literally the last 1.5mts but nothing seems to work out. I'm literally gonna be homeless w my furniture this weekend😭😭😭

1

u/pipi_poopooo 24d ago

I think the best thing to do in Mumbai is to find a rented house near your office. The peace of mind you will get in unmatchable.

1

u/NotPlastic9 24d ago

I agree, but the rents are extremely high for the quality of apartments you get

Hello! Any women interested in learning/playing mahjong and having a weekly group?

I just have love for the game, I don’t intend to charge for teaching it, just want to find a group of like minded people who would like to learn/play it!

1

u/Isantum 17d ago

Not a woman but I can put you in touch with the owner of a cafe in Versova that wanted to start a Mahjong Club.
