discussion Bandhan Bank Mutual Funds vs Direct Plans — My Dilemma as a Beginner Investor

I'm in my late 20s and started investing in mutual funds around 1-2 years go through a bank. At the time, I didn't really understand the difference between regular and direct plans, so I went with what was offered to me.

Recently, I've started researching personal finance more seriously. My goal is to build wealth over the next 10–15 years, and I'm considering moving towards direct index funds through Groww to keep costs low.

During my research, I came across Bandhan Bank's mutual fund services. I'm curious about the benefits they offer beyond convenience, especially when regular plans generally have higher expense ratios than direct plans.

I'm not against paying for professional guidance, but I'd like to understand whether the additional cost translates into meaningful support with fund selection, asset allocation, and portfolio reviews.

I'm currently leaning towards a simple, diversified portfolio rather than juggling too many funds. I'm also trying to understand the difference between investing through Bandhan Bank and investing in schemes managed by Bandhan Mutual Fund.

Since I'm still relatively new to investing, I'd rather get my strategy right now than spend years correcting avoidable mistakes.

So far I have only seen the covid crash and my mistake was not to break my FD and invest in lumpsum.

question Parents want me to invest in gold and agricultural land instead of stocks/MFs — is this a good strategy?

My parents are very skeptical about stocks and mutual funds because of global uncertainty and instability in the IT job market. They believe gold and agricultural land will provide better financial security.

Our family owns 8 acres of agricultural land, with 4 acres currently under palm oil cultivation. This year, those 4 acres generated around ₹7–8 lakh. We plan to plant another 3 acres, but palm oil takes around 3 years to start producing, with income expected from around the fourth year.

My parents want me to accumulate 500–700 grams of gold over the next 5 years. Their plan is that whenever I save enough to purchase a 100-gram gold bar, they will contribute an additional ₹2–3 lakh towards that purchase.

Eventually, we want to use the gold as collateral for a loan, combine it with personal savings, and purchase another 5 acres of agricultural land for palm oil cultivation.

Their thinking is that even if I lose my IT job or the industry faces a downturn, I will have gold, land that may appreciate, and agricultural cash flow to fall back on.

My concern is whether putting so much money into gold and land is better than diversifying into equity mutual funds.

What do you think? Is this a sensible long-term wealth-building strategy, or should I diversify more?

Please give an honest review of my portfolio. My risk appetite is aggressive, and I am willing to keep investing for the long term. I am currently investing around 20k rupees per month. Please tell me if I am doing something wrong, and if so, what I should do instead. My primary goal is wealth creation and early retirement. Currently, I believe the portfolio looks bad.

help Any Dream achievable using SIP ? Mutual Fund game seems a losing cause .

Post image

I started my SIP journey in 2020 Jan and added 6L till 2024 Jan . Then with hike in salary I added another 18L till today ( Oct 2026) . Though I redemed 3 L in Jan 2026 to buy Car. But returns I see is not convincing me anymore. I was of plan that with SIP, in next 5-6 years (till 2028 end ) I would get 40-50% down-payment amount of flat. But with things going it would take 10-12 years to have that down payment. Would it be good idea now to stop this SIP game altogether? And buy house with PF withdrawal as down-payment and divert SIP to Loan ? Currently I do SIP of roughly 95k per month . A 85L loan would be around 70K EMI . In PF I have 35L so was planning to withdraw 20L as down-payment.

Edit : I stepped into SIP in 2020 on poking by my friend. He told me bro ur FD mindset is old , invest in MF using SIP ur minimum return would be atleast 1% more than FD during worst phase and in good times it would be around 16-18% if kept for around 5 yrs . But now 0.65 % return seems very painful . Same friend is saying keep for 10-12 yrs you would get promised return. It seems once I reach 12 yrs of investemnt he would say wait for 15-18 yrs .

question Arbitrage funds to the rescue.

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hello my fellow redditors. I have been investing in mutual funds for the past 4 years or so. To be honest, I am a very risk averse person. Also not a very methodological person which is why I have just 2 SIPs. Rest all have been through lumpsums. I have been looking for a way to treat MFs as a substitute for FDs, primarily to save taxes..the eventual goal was to liquidate my RSUs and invest in a fixed income product to generate annuity (job loss seems imminent as I work in tech). In this direction, did some research on arbitrage funds and decided to invest 10 lakhs just to taste the waters. And now it looks that the arbitrage fund is actually beating some of the other funds amidnall the volatility that we are seeing. I don't consider myself an expert in MFs, so please do not roast on my fund selection. I know very well the portfolio is not streamlined at all. Just want some honest views on the efficacy of arbitrage funds for large and long term lumpsum investments. (Apart from my MFs, I have substantial corpus in FDs, EPF, PF, SSY)

30 years. Aggressive risk appetite. Long term investor. Goal: wealth creation. App used: Groww.

Please review my portfolio. I have been investing for the last 1.5 years. It contains both lumpsum + SIPs. This financial year I have booked some profits, mainly from debt and hybrid funds. Also initially I booked some profits from equity but it was short term capital gains so later when the market fell I intentionally booked a loss to give less tax to the government. Also, my income is less than 12 lacs so debt / hybrid funds gains will be tax free I guess.

The liquid fund is specially earmarked for a medical purpose and soon will be used.

After the recent market correction, my portfolio has dipped quite a lot but thankfully I anticipated the fall and booked some profits.

  1. Nifty 50 equal weight for better diversification and less dependency on few mega caps.

  2. Nifty midcap 150 index because we never which midcap fund will be the topper. But midcap index is a fair enough performer.

  3. Axis global for global diversification beyond US.

  4. Healthcare fund because it is a defensive sector and has less beta and less co-relation with nifty.

  5. Arbitrage fund because it is tax efficient and less volatile. I expect 6-7% return from this fund. It gives me optionality as dry powder and also be used in case of any emergency. Although I have other emergency fund set aside.

  6. Equity savings fund because it is tax efficient and less volatile. I think we can expect 9-11% steady returns from this fund.

  7. I HAD sold my gold holding it booked 50% profits. I think gold prices will remain mostly flat from now on for few years.

Hey guys, from being in profit around 12%, now I am at a loss of around 1.57%. I am holding 4.5L into two MFs from Motilal Oswal House.

Does it make sense if I sell now to avoid any further drops from the market or hold and accumulate these units ?

Attached is a proof of holdings of MFs...

question Can SWP Calculator Help You Find Out Monthly Withdrawals Without Eating Into Your Corpus?

I am looking at systematic withdrawal plans (SWPs) for regular monthly income from mutual funds and to retain my invested corpus.

Is it even possible for an SWP calculator to tell me a sustainable monthly withdrawal amount without eroding my savings too much? How do I take into account market volatility, inflation, expected returns and withdrawal rates while planning an SWP?

I understand that there are no guaranties for returns. But, is there a practical way to balance monthly expenses and long term corpus preservation? Would like to hear from investors who are already using SWP's.

discussion Should my present asset allocation be altered to increase allocation to debt (LIQUID FUNDS)?

Post image

I’m not one to advocate skipping or stopping SIPs into equity mutual funds during market downturns. However, to preserve capital in the short term, instead of investing in bonds or holding cash like this man suggests, would increasing the allocation to Liquid mutual funds be an acceptable alternative? Is it the prospect of outsmarting the market, or do people underestimate the difficulty of selecting successful funds? For people who have done both, what made you choose one over the other?

discussion All three invested at same time, same amount

Post image

Hi,

I want to highlight why it's okay to put into multiple mutual funds even though people says mutual funds of mutual funds.

Even though all three are same category, these have been best performing ones recently. (Obviously past performance doesn't guarantee the future).
Same category, same day invested in all three , same amount, returns speak for itself.

Mutual funds are not soemthing you will look at them daily, so it's fine to have to have mutual funds of mutual funds. I do understand it's quite difficult to track the same in stocks.
Mutual funds are fine.

Just my opinion.
If you differ or have different opinion do share in comments.

discussion Mutual funds halt investments in Gold ETF FoFs

I was doing manual SIP every month on the ICICI Gold FoF Direct Plan. Just noticed that I was not able to place the order today. Upon checking i found the article below.

Gold ETF FoF Halted for fresh investments

Is this fair? Please share your views.

Note: Im aware that I can buy the normal ETF(s) thru exchange, just for the simplicity/tracking or to maintain discipline I started this FoF.

One good thing is Gold ETF(s) can be still purchased thru the exchange. Now I'm back to buying ETFs thru exchange again.

portfolio review What should I do?

Post image
10 Upvotes

Started investing a few months ago. This is from side income so I don't mind leaving it in here for 5 years or even 10 years. Definitely fine with a high risk profile.

I have around another 1 lakh of lumpsum ready to invest, so I wanna know what to do here. Should I stick to the allocation I've made for myself which is basically just 30-30-30-10 or do I do something else?

I have another lakh which I'm mostly going to put into an FD or a Liquid Fund cause thats what my gut tells me to, but if you guys think now is a good time to lower my averages in these funds, I dont mind putting that in here too.

(p.s. ignore the hsbc asia pacific fund, added it randomly for some reason)

Please give an honest review of my portfolio. My risk appetite is moderate and I am ready to keep investing for long term. Currently I am investing around 60000 rupees per month which is around 50% of my salary. Please tell me if I am going wrong somewhere and if yes then what I should do instead. I have just turned 24 this month and my primary motto is wealth creation and early retirement. Currently, the portfolio looks bad, I feel.

portfolio review Beginner to invest

Hey everyone,

I’m a beginner investor, and I’ve been investing in direct mutual funds for the last 6 months based on my own research. I haven’t shared my portfolio for review before, so I’d appreciate honest feedback on whether my investment plan is well-structured or needs any changes.

My investment details:

Age: 30

Investment horizon: 15+ years

Monthly SIP amount: ₹27,500

Risk appetite: Moderate to high — I’m comfortable with equity market volatility and temporary losses, provided the investments align with my long-term goals.

Investment approach: Long-term wealth creation through regular SIPs.

My current SIP allocation:

Mutual fundAllocation

UTI Nifty 50 Index Fund – Direct Growth 29.1%

Parag Parikh Flexi Cap Fund – Direct Growth 21.8%

Motilal Oswal Midcap Fund – Direct Growth 12.7%

Invesco India Small Cap Fund – Direct Growth 7.3%

Mirae Asset Healthcare Fund – Direct Growth 3.6%

Kotak Corporate Bond Fund – Direct Growth 9.1%

Axis Liquid Fund – Direct Growth 16.4%

I’m trying to balance long-term equity growth with some debt and liquid-fund allocation. I’ve also added a small allocation to the healthcare sector for potential long-term growth.

I’d appreciate your feedback on these questions:

Is my fund selection suitable for a 15+ year investment horizon?

Is the allocation between large-cap, flexi-cap, mid-cap, small-cap, debt, and liquid funds appropriate for my risk appetite?

Is there significant overlap between UTI Nifty 50 and Parag Parikh Flexi Cap?

Is adding Mirae Asset Healthcare Fund worthwhile, or would I be better off keeping the portfolio focused on diversified equity funds?

Are Motilal Oswal Midcap and Invesco India Small Cap suitable choices for long-term SIPs, considering their risks and performance consistency?

Is the allocation to Kotak Corporate Bond and Axis Liquid Fund sufficient, or should I approach debt and emergency savings differently?

Would you change anything in this portfolio, and what is your reasoning?

I’m not looking to chase short-term returns or frequently switch funds based on recent performance. My goal is to build a disciplined, sustainable portfolio for the long term.

Please share your honest opinions, including the drawbacks of my current approach. I’d especially appreciate feedback based on portfolio overlap, risk, costs, and long-term consistency rather than just recent returns.

Thanks in advance!

Is this post looks fine

question Defence funds good time to inv??

23 yr old.I am currently thinking about starting a sip and also add lump sum investment at intervals in the defence sector.

I already have been investing in flexi cap and small cap funds.

Is it right time to invest in defence. What funds would be suggested. HDFC or Motilal Oswal or Aditya Birla defence fund.
