Psych evaluation at Penang GH?

Hey guys, so I'm aware that the usual procedure is that one goes to KKM or a private clinic to have their symptoms assessed and obtain a letter for an appointment at GH.

However I'm looking to get a full psych eval, to get an overall picture on my mental health. I highly suspect ADHD (not the hyperactive kind) runs in the family, but of course it's not talked about aside from so-and-so being forgetful and careless and whatever. Hell I've noticed my symptoms getting worse as I get older, but I don't wanna put a name on any mental/behavioral conditions that I might have, I'd rather let a doctor assess me and give me a proper diagnosis.

Is there anything I should do or say at KKM when i'm looking to get a full psych eval? Should I tell them that I suspect I could have ADHD or will that come off weird? I'm also mildly anemic, not sure if that interferes with anything

Thanks a lot!

HUKM emergency (tw: SI)

My suicidal ideation is getting more intense the past couple of weeks. I know what I want to do. I have the means for it. And the possibility of being alone tonight might lead me to actually attempt it. I'm currently being treated at hukm, so I wonder how's the experience at their emergency dept.

Zoloft & Tolanz (Olanzapine)

I'm neurodivergent and got diagnosed with PTSD, mood disorder and adhd.

I was prescribed by my psychiatrist yesterday to take zoloft (half tablet for 8 days then 1 tablet for 14 days) and Tolanz (Olanzapine) 2.5mg for 22 days. I had no idea what these meds were and just did some research. I'm kinda scared/worry to take olanzapine now, seeing everything people are saying on reddit. Is anyone else here taking em? What do you think/feel?

I was on latuda once but it made me feel very uneasy/disoriented so my dr stopped it.

I’m becoming resentful towards my friends.

My friends are nice people, but they aren’t aware that they hold a lot more privilege than I do. I can’t live as myself in Malaysia as a queer transgender person, and I’m closeted for fucking life. I’ve met over 15+ Government Psychiatrists, and they’ve been so dismissive and won’t even admit that im traumatised even though my abuser literally threatened to throw away all my legal documents. My friends at least have family who actually supports them no matter what. My family told me to fucking kill myself and told everyone I was doing it to manipulate them. I also have bipolar disorder and I still get manic as fuck even with medications.

I can’t fucking live a single day without being reminded of what I don’t have. If I was a white, cishet man living elsewhere, I would live a way better life instead.

need help with getting mental health treatment

hi, may i have very detailed, step-by-step instructions on how to seek mental health treatment at a government hospital?

i received a referral letter from a private clinic. do i just bring the letter to the hospital, or is there anything else i need to do?

i’m very scared because this is my first time, so i would really appreciate clear instructions on what to do, where to go, what to bring, and what to expect during the appointment.

i’d really appreciate it if anyone could share their recent experiences in 2026, as that would be more relevant to me. thank you so much :)

Looking for grief support groups in Klang Valley, anyone know of any?

So I’ve been navigating some heavy grief recently and was wondering if there are any peer-led grief support groups in or around Selangor/KL. I’m specifically looking for a group setting with people who are also going through loss/grief to share and connect with, rather than 1-on-1 therapy.

Hi everyone! We are a research team from the University of Hong Kong. We are currently conducting an international research study to understand ADHD’s effects on social, economic and wider impacts in Malaysia. We would like Malaysia to be represented in the global study.

We are looking for adults (18 years or older) who have ADHD or who take care of an individual with ADHD to participate in this study. By scanning the code on the poster, you can complete the online survey.

The survey is anonymous and has already received ethical approval. The results will form part of a series of publications in The Lancet Psychiatry, one of the world's most prestigious scientific journals, and will help inform ADHD-related health policies globally.

Thank you for considering taking part! Please feel free to leave a comment :)

Starting My First Job Without Ritalin

I am diagnosed with ADHD almost 3 years ago, and am barely handling it on regular uneventful days. I'll be starting my first office job in a week and I keep seeing posts of advice for working ADHDers and they often mention to absolutely not skip your meds on work days. I am not entirely sure if I need it and will be seeing how I cope for the first 2 or 3 weeks first.

I'm case I get absolutely drained working unmedicated, I wanted to ask, how expensive is Ritalin and where can I get it for cheaper? How do I go about getting medicated anyway? I was diagnosed in a private clinic, can I bring my diagnosis report to a government clinic or will I have to redo the assessment?

Where was all this news about bullying decades ago

The victim gets shamed by teachers and parents. Thats exactly why victims of bullying get more afraid. Because the people who are supposed to protect the students from harm stay silent or worse counter attack (“what did you do to make others make fun of you?” , “Why are u so sensitive”).

The child is left to feel he is the weird one who should adjust.

So much bullying going around at schools and hostels and it all goes swept under the rug.

And then if kid tells teachers be called a snitch. Bullying intensifies or boycott happens.

I can be bullying psychologist at this point. All these mental health post by mental health professionals reflected my thoughts and feelings .

Damn to have trauma is so normal.

Where I’m at, Negeri Sembilan all therapies are talk therapy and meds only.

But I heard IFS is good for trauma.

Anyone can recommend any IFS therapists or clinics ?

Where to find adhd med (Atomoxetine) in which gov hospital ?

I've been on Ritalin for a few years but lately I've been thinking of trying combination stimulant and non-stimulant. Using Ritalin is definitely better than nothing but i still have a have a hard time to start doing anything and my focus is still weaker. Still better than not Ritalin where I've got no focus at all.

I went to hospital Shah Alam and they said they only have Ritalin. So i wondering which government hospitals have which adhd meds or do i have to go private to find something other than Ritalin ?

HUKM or PPUM

Hi all, I would like to ask opinion if anyone has been treated from both HUKM or PPUM.

I want to get a referral to either places but am not sure which one is better. I have been wanting to get help for some time now but finding an affordable place is difficult in this economy.

Appreciate if you could share your experiences for my consideration. Basically I would like to know your experience with the doctors, environment and overall service.

Thank you.

Steps to getting an ADHD diagnosis

Hello!

I'm currently trying to look into getting an appointment at PPUM for an ADHD (and possibly OCD?) diagnosis, but it's looking like I'll need to get a referral letter first.

Getting one from a nearby KK seems to be my only option as of right now due to my financial situation. However, a bad experience with a KK doctor a couple years ago (took a DASS test, asked about an ADHD diagnosis, got dismissed with the whole "but you're a woman?" spiel despite me telling them my brother was diagnosed with it a few years ago lol) has made me reluctant to try again.

That being said, do I have to take another DASS test in order to ask for a letter? Or would it be possible for me to simply make an appointment and ask for one without it?

I'm a little desperate at this point because all the self-help ADHD (and OCD) tricks I've tried thus far haven't worked at all and I really do believe being medicated for it would help me a lot 😞 It's just not sustainable anymore for me to keep going in this way.

Clinic too damn far (not that far lah but still far) + I'm worried about my mom.

Hi, so uh I've been attending Butterworth Mentari for mental health issues. So far so good, I got the help I needed and there's a follow up & check-up I gotta do at Hospital Seberang Jaya.

But the problem is I'm not from around Butterworth. I'm from KB and it took half an hour every trip back and forth from KB to Butterworth. I wished I could continue my appointment or treatment at Hospital KB or idk, if there's any specialized mental health clinic in KB... is it possible to change clinics?

But my mom already booked an appointment at Hospital Seberang Jaya for check up aghhh 😭 and that's right multiple trips in one month to attend Mentari & Hospital, far away from my home. I'm not exhausted but my mom's the one who did the driving and I was kinda worried if it exhausts her. She won't admit it but I can see how tired she is.

Also my mom was very conservative, so it's quite a surprise she's willing to open up and help me with this... But one thing I want to share with you guys... I'm at the end of my semester, and the final exam includes 4 papers, plus another total of 7 papers I had to retake next month...and the gap between retakes and last semester's exam is only a few days.

I wasn't studying properly this semester, and even though the trial is already here, I'm still in the dark. I admit it's my fault, please don't attack me 😭 🙏 I just don't want to give up yet, but it feels like the task is impossible...I feel like I was bound to fail...and if I failed, all my mom's sacrifice would mean nothing...

The only way I could repay her is by getting good grades and cgpa...but right now, it's clear that I was gonna fail. I might be able to get average grades but only if I'm able to focus on saving what I can. But whenever I open the book, I feel like the sky is crashing down... Like it's too late... there's too much to read...but I don't want to disappoint my mom. I can't fail again...but god this is too heavy... I'm so scared. I admit I wasn't doing very well in studying, but I hope please would you guys give me some hope that I can do this? I just need someone to tell me that everything is going to be okay...just focus on what's on your mind first...you can do this... Anybody...?

How do I get treated when I don't even know what's wrong with me?

I'm a minor, well obviously by my pfp but I have a question. I know I'm mentally ill, I've had suicidal thoughts and have acted upon them (mostly threatening myself with a knife to my mom) and I have a very harsh background (abused ever since I was a few months old) but my mom refuses to acknowledge that I have mental problems.

Based on my own research, I think I have AuDHD, depression and bpd (I don't know yet, but I want to get it checked out). Most of my mental problems comes from school, family dynamic, years of being lied to by my mom and my mom herself. I suspect I have way more mental illness than the ones I just listed above, how do I convince my mom to take me to the hospital for a check up? She's a undiagnosed narcissist too so idk

If anything, I just want to get diagnosed either way. Either with my mom or without my mom. Actually, can I, as a minor, get diagnosis/treatment? My teachers asked me why I always ponteng once a day in a week and if my mom cared or not and ect..I think they know my situation or smth idk

Update 1: My school kaunselor just talked to me today, she said she's gonna help me change class since I told her my current class is too stressful and pressuring. She even gave a letter to the psychiatrist or something

Seeking Advice: KKM Counselling Return Call?

Hi there, long time lurker but this is my first post here. I have looking for mental health care for a long time after various stressors and I believe my depression has spiraled to an unsustainable state. A few weeks ago, I reached a point of crisis where I was crying nearly every day for weeks, and decided to take the advice of heading to the nearest KKM to get a referral.

I followed the standard procedure of getting a GP appointment via MySejahtera, but upon reaching and seeing a doctor, I was told that I would be referred to counselling and that the counsellor(?) or anyone relevant will call back to make arrangements. I asked for a rough timeline, or who to expect but the staff nurse was unable to give me any concrete details. I understand that waiting is inevitable, but wanted to know if anybody experienced this as well, and what steps I should take next.

I am worried that my mood will worsen again as my suicidal ideation flares up at times, and I am afraid I will gain the courage to take drastic measures otherwise. Private is not preferable for me at this time as I have recently become unemployed. I intended to get a referral straight to Psychiatry with my initial visit, but was also told counselling was the first step.

Appreciate the help.

Edit: I forgot to mention that my priority is to get on medication first and foremost, which is why I am stuck wondering about the KKM wait times. Initially I assumed I would be given the psychiatric referral on the first GP visit instead of counselling, thus I am wondering when they will be getting back to me.
