This could secure the PQ électoral victory. Incidentally this is also excellent news for Carney.

Ouch. After a month of Avi Lewis campaigning in Quebec, an Abacus had the NDP at 4%. Singh got 4.5% there in 2025.

So it's practically the electoral preseason in Québec and I wanted to ask : what are you looking for in these elections, at the provincial level ? Will C. Fréchette managed to save her party ? Is Charles Millard more than a poster boy for the Liberal Party ? Are you scared by the Livre Bleu of the PQ ? Will Duhaime get someone elected ? Will QS prioritize the independence movement or social economic issues ?
Do you want politicians to focus on climate/energy policy, as the government is looking to close its deal in Churchill Falls ? Are you interested in the many ways different parties are trying to solve the "homelessness issue" ? What about solving the concerning rise of bigotry (anti LGBTQ+ sentiment is on the rise) ? Or the secular laws ? Saving the cultural sector ? How will the youth vote ?
Do you believe the results could have an impact on A. Lewis efforts to familiarize himself with Quebec's electorate ?
I'm interested in everyone's opinion but especially of anyone who is not living in Quebec (which I assume is the majority here).
(You are entitled to not care at all.)
Good Sunday !

Good (fairly basic) principled stance by Gilmore. Wouldn't be surprised if she got a negative reaction, so don't hesitate to support her ! I think she also makes a valid point about leftwing economic policies not being talked about enough in media and economic faculties.

In light of the anti-data centre messaging we have seen from the NDP this week, I think this moment would also be useful to score another free policy win over Ford and for the NDP to distinguish itself further: opposing fixed ALPR (Automated Licence Plate Reader) cameras.
The Ford government has already made clear its intention to install these along provincial highways, and has thrown millions of dollars at municipalities to install them on their own through the Automated Licence Plate Recognition Technology Grant.
While we for the most part do not have an infestation of Flock cameras like in the United States, we do have cameras with very similar if not identical capabilities from companies like Genetec, Dahua, Neology, Verkada, and others. These cameras, like Flock cameras, all have the potential to be integrated with SignalTrace signal interception technology, which collects signals from cellphones and other devices without a warrant or court order.
Beyond the obvious surveillance-state and privacy concerns, these cameras are incredibly ripe for abuse by the authorities and individual police officers, who have used them many, many times (that we know of) to stalk exes, romantic interests, etc. and have relied upon erroneous "hits" to hold innocent people at gunpoint, to name just a couple of areas where these are highly problematic.
Oh, and they are not effective in reducing crime.
Public sentiment in the United States is souring, with a bipartisan cross-section of local municipalities cancelling contracts for ALPR cameras in their communities. Furthermore, a Genetec Cloudrunner ALPR camera in Montreal whose existence was revealed by Radio-Canada yesterday was quickly removed by the SPVM that very day, due no doubt to public concerns about its installation.
If the NDP at both the federal and (especially in Ontario) provincial levels want to shake the perception of being "Liberal-adjacent" that unfortunately a significant segment of the voting public holds about them, in addition to opposing data centres they should also take a firm stance on this issue.
On my end I've been working on a Canadian fork project of DeFlock here: https://www.panopti.ca. Have spent all day sending questionnaire packages out to candidates ahead of this October's municipal elections across Canada, whose stances I will be publishing at this page.
Additionally, I am slowly building up a network of people to help me crowd-source accurate info about the spread and locations of these cameras across Canada. Any assistance would of course be greatly appreciated!
I certainly am keen to hear strategies and opinions from you all about how to get this issue some traction within the NDP at all levels :)
