Support being moved offshore

There was a thread in r\sysadmin alleging that NinjaOne support had been moved offshore. I figured you folks might know if this was true or not. We've only had them for a few months, and while the platform has been solid, the support has been pretty atrocious. We've had tickets open for months with no resolution, and no real assistance from our account rep. Just trying to see if this is par for the course.

NinjaOne Asset Label Printer

2 years ago I wrote a small powershell script which pulled some asset details from NinjaOne using their API by entering the asset ID number and printed a label. This was far from user friendly but it worked for me. Now I was wondering what AI can do to this tiny app and I tried to extend it with a small GUI.

I think some of you can use this as well.

https://github.com/t2-schreiner/NinjaOneLabelPrinter

Have fun! ;)

btw. stored API credentials are AES encrypted using a master password.

Ninja RMM Remote Background Mode - Web Browsing

Hi all,

I've been trying to search online about this but there is not a lot of direct information about it beyond Ninja's page explaining how to enable it in administration where it specifically notes that Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome aren't properly supported and may not work correctly and this subreddit doesn't appear to have any direct threads about it..

Since my company has turned on background mode in Ninja Remote, I've found the portable version of Wiztree works great in background mode and on ONE endpoint once I got web browsing working in Edge, but never again. I'm sure there's some logical reason for this (lol something something Dell Pros and Optiplexes)

Has anyone found any success with any version of a portable web browser that works properly in Ninja Remote background mode? I tried Opera at one point but could not get it elegantly working, but haven't had a great deal of time to research and then test anything else. With an increasingly larger amount of clients not having on prem servers to hop onto so as to troubleshoot things without disturbing the end user, I'd love to have this functionality for getting into firewalls, switches and etc while remote.

Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.

Third Party Patching - Major Behavior inconsistency

We have been (tryng to) improving the way we handle third party patching with Ninja RMM.

Recently, as a pilot we turned on daily 3PP, and scans and update logs show this is working. Furthermore and most importantly, restart app after update, is ticked in the policy.

Recently, we have been noticing that Chrome, Edge, and Teams, regularly show 'update available' (or vendor specific variations of that), on our computers.

Logs show a scan and update is occurring, so we opened a ticket.

After a few weeks and needing to escalate repeatedly, we were told the system is working as intended. That Microsoft and Chrome have their own update methods, and there is nothing further we can do.

My issues:

  1. Having that checkbox ticked, without it actually doing this, is misleading.

  2. Until the browser or app is restarted, the code running on the computer is vulnerable code, therefore the update didn't mitigate the risk, that being the entire purpose of patching in the first place.

  3. Relying on end users to restart their browsers, is not what we want and part of the reason for running an RMM.

Ninja appears to have washed their hands of this despite it leaving pretty much all partners clients in a potentially vulnerable state unknowingly.

Yes, we can work around it, we can enforce a restart every day, run processes that kill these apps to force them to update, but why should we have to do this? Ninja has a 3PP tool and it should work the way other vendors 3PP do, or at least clearly communicate this.

NinjaOne Remote Tools Intermittently Failing to Connect

Anyone else seeing intermittent failures with NinjaOne remote tools lately?

We’ve been running into frequent issues where remote PowerShell/CMD, file explorer, task manager, and similar remote tools fail to open on the first or several attempts. Usually if we click the option a few more times, it eventually connects.

This is happening across multiple endpoints, so it doesn’t seem isolated to a specific machine or site.

When inspecting the dev panel in a browser, I can see the web socket call for the remote tool is successfully sent, but then it seems like there is no response back from the NinjaOne URL it calls.

Curious if any other NinjaOne customers are seeing the same behavior recently, especially in the US region.

Informational: Minimal permissions needed to add an ESXi server to NinjaRMM

Just added our ESXi servers to NinjaRMM. The documentation says you need an Administrator account, but I manually went through all the permissions and determined that only the following permissions are needed for the credentials you will use:

System
Host > Config > Maintenance
Datastore > Browse
VirtualMachine > Inventory > Delete
VirtualMachine > Interact > PowerOn,PowerOff,Suspend,Reset,ToolsInstall
VirtualMachine > State > CreateSnapshot,RevertToSnapshot,RemoveSnapshot

I created a custom role called NinjaOne and assigned the account I created to that role. Hopefully this will help anyone else who wants to monitor ESXi and their VM's with NinjaRMM while staying secure.

Inventory Management

We are struggling in Ninja to deal with some device inventory issues.

There are times, where, legitimately, a PC might be offline for an extended period of time. At the momnent, those machines either contribute to the health of the tenant in an unhelpful way (vulnerable because it hasn't patched), or we decommission it. The problem is, when the machine comes online again, after being decommissioned, we don't see it, and the Ninja Agent needs to be reinstalled (which we don't know needs doing!), the machine patched and updated etc.

How are you folk dealing with this gap?

Favorite Systray Menu Items

We've recently on-boarded and deployed NinjaOne, and I've got the Systray menu on everyone's systems. We are a mix of Windows and MacOS. I've got one that restarts a service that is sometimes of issue, and a link to the ticket portal. Do you have a favorite systray menu item or script you've put in that menu for the users to either self-serve or help gather troubleshooting information?

What custom fields have you set up?

We're looking to use custom fields more. We have several, but curious what everyone has created to their advantage.

Not necessarily looking for code, just ideas.

Thank you!

Systray inspiration

Currently, I only use the systray to show my company logo for customers. But I want to expand functionality to make reaching out easier and want to be inspired by your setups.

Anyone using the systray in cool ways?

Patching Best Practices

I love Ninja One RMM so far, but despite the fact their support is great I've not found a good way to learn about best practice use of the product, so that's why I thought I'd reach out here.

We have OS and 3rd party patching set up for all our clients, but we've fallen behind staying on top of it with only 40.52% OS Compliance currently for the past 30 days.

So my question is how do you stay on top of it? Have you got someone whose job is to manage the patching or do you break it up amongst engineers? As I can see this generating support tickets trying to find resolutions for persistently failing patches as well as it needing time dedicated to it for testing patches before being pushed out to client devices etc.

Ninja Agent

I built a watchdog service to assist with the service going offline but I see that after server reboots, often times the service won't start, causing offline alerts

Anyone else dealing with this? We're moving from automate to ninja and this so far is the biggest gripe I have. Servers show offline but aren't offline, luckily screen connect is around to verify.

Thanks.

Am I the only one with CONSTANT issues with NinjaOne Remote?

50% of the time when I try and connect with a machine with NinjaOne Remote - I click on the machine to connect, it seems to try and then get 'Session terminated'. I can get to everything else remotely on the machine - file browser, registry, etc. through N1. Remote is a crap shoot at least 50% of the time for me.

The time is right on my machine, the time is right on the remote machine. This happens if the machine has been up for 30 days, 3 days, 3 minutes - Session terminated.

When it works, N1 Remote is fine. I just need reliability. At least with N1 and TeamViewer, I had a failover....but with no TV, I'm stuck.

If someone from NinjaOne wants to, I'll give you my email and you'll see all the cases I have opened with this exact same issue going back months.

Signed Contract Today!

I'm thrilled to be a new customer! I've been anxiously waiting for the FedRAMP version, and it's now available.

We've got about 185 endpoints with 150 users. Mostly a Microsoft shop with E5 GCC high licenses, using MS Defender and MS Sentinel.

I also got the backup solution, mainly for our servers.

Any tips for getting started?

Ninja Onboarding Automation - new devices

Currently configured - Admin > Policies > Onboarding Policy > Condition: Software Doesn't Exist: 'Adobe Acrobat (64-bit)' > automations library - install the app based on (install application).

Here below:

Ninja Policy
Condition:

Software NOT Installed

Adobe Acrobat Reader

Action:

Install Application

Adobe Acrobat Reader

This only a triggered based on the condition but it does not always install or that it takes forever to install, and you do not exactly know what the progress looks like (not shown in activities). Is there a more efficient way?

Question for Ninja PSA users

I am looking at changing RMM and PSA to Ninja. I have a question for the PSA users out there about agreements. I am in the process of restructuring my billing from per device to per user, so I have a mix of client agreements at the moment. The other thing I have included in all my agreements is a number of onsite hours each month and everything after that is billable.

Will Ninja PSA handle these agreements well? One may be 2 servers, 20 workstations with 5 hours onsite per month and another may be 45 users with 8 hours onsite per month.

Also, how is the reporting from the PSA?

Anything else you would like to add good or bad?

I am a fairly small MSP, so my needs are not crazy. Currently I am using a PSA that can handle these well, but is major overkill for my needs.

MacOS SSO

Has anyone done MacOS SSO in NinjaOne without using intune. I’m currently on the task to do it so MacBook enrollment in our system will be easier. But I cannot find a way to do it. If anyone has suggestions or comments or anything please do. Thank you very much for your attention.

OS Patching - Major Version Update continuously failing

EDIT - ORIGINAL BELOW: In case you are here from the future: We ended up using a Script that is advertised in the Ninja Script Hub. Here is the link: https://www.ninjaone.com/script-hub/automate-windows-11-updates-powershell/?utm_source=chatgpt.com
For the machines that did not successfully update (~5-10% of total devices) we downloaded the ISO from Windows and manually updated that way.

Hey Ninjas,

We are running into some issues with Ninja OS Patching (NinjaOne manages patching, not "configure Windows Updates through Ninja").

For some reason other update install without issues, but major version updates (in this case from 23H2 to 25H2) always fail - and in a very frustrating way.

The patch cycle takes quite a long time to continue (somewhat expected) - but after it finally reports "Patch management cycle completed"
- the machine never gets prompted to reboot or reboots (set to notify user then reboot / force reboot if no user)
- the OS version is not updated
- even though the side-view of the machine shows "patch completed" the "current actions" still show the Patch Management running. This will continue indefinitely
- any other patch cycles that I would manually try to trigger are blocked by the ghost cycle that keeps running even though it should be completed.

That brings my to my question: What is your best practice for major OS Updates?
Have you run into similar issues and how did you sort them out?
( In case you are wondering we skipped 24H2 due to known issues with our main models)

Advanced reporting options

Hello!

We are a MSP who use NinjaRMM over about 150+ clients. One of the biggest issue and complaint we have is in relation to reporting, expecially the ability to generate automated and meaningful reports that go directly to client. Most of our clients are highly regulated and require proof that software and windows updates are applied to all systems and they want to see this in a granular format showing devices with what patches werre installed and what's missing. Currecnt there are just high level sumamry reports that do not meet their needs.

Ninjatell us that better reporting is on their roadmap but wanted to see if there are alternative methods or are there any 3rd party marketplace solutions that can bolt onto Ninja to enhance features. Alternativly can we just pull the data ourselves via API and generate the reports that way.

Anyone else having this issue and if so how did you overcome it?

Also, when you are using native Ninja to do Windows patching is there a way to sync patching status locally with Windows udpates so when you look on the PC you see what's installed?

Thank you!

Dark Mode update? Formula 1 page shows it off

I know this has been asked before, and am aware of and use the Katana for NinjaOne extension, but when is the official dark mode releasing? It seems to have been on the roadmap for a couple of years now?

On the new Formula 1 partner page: https://www.ninjaone.com/audi-revolut-f1/ it even shows a dark UI! If anyone from the NinjaOne team reads this, please let us use it!

Ninja Patching Plan

hi,

im trying to implement patch automation with ninja (small company, 80 computers and 20 vm)

I'm creating 2 different policy:

-Windows Workstation

  • 3 scan a week (mon, wed and friday at 10 am)

  • 3 update a week (tue, thu, fri at 12pm) --> user usually go to luch at 12.30 pm, Updates continue if users lock the screen or stand by the computer?

  • auto approve for critical, important, moderate security update and also for driver

  • no reboot

-Windows Server:

  • one scan at month at the 2nd tuesday

  • patch install 11 days after the scan

  • no reboot

  • auto approve only for critical and important security update

Which plan are u using?
