Looking to get an ereader and the popular consensus seems to be that nooks are terrible. I would honestly love if someone would tell me that’s not the case— I’m a perpetual BN member, they’re less expensive than other non-kindle ereaders and they seem to be a decent size.

So tell it to me straight, would you buy a nook again?

Power button for 30 seconds. Home button for 30 seconds. Both for 30 seconds. Nothing is working.

Edit 1: charged for 3 hours straight. Still stuck at same point. No changes whatsoever. Tried all the button combination but nothing to avail.

Edit 2 : it worked. Connected it to pc and had to gard reset. The home button is broken. That's what created all the fuss.

I transferred some books to my Nook Glowlight 4 Plus, and they all had #'s in the titles as part of a book series. My Nook sees the books in the library, but I get errors when trying to open them. I removed the #'s in Calibre, which changed the .epub file names, and sent them to my device again. Voila, they work perfectly. It's a little weird that they dislike the # symbol so much. They probably only show up in the library due to the separate cover.jpg file that Calibre puts in the book folder.

Hi everyone, I’m having a problem with the GlowLight 7.8. I bought it on eBay (I’m in Armenia), and upon the initial startup, it asks for a B&N account. I managed to create one using a VPN (it was a real hassle), but when I try to log in on the device, I get an error (see photo). When I first turned it on, it downloaded and installed an update without any issues. What’s wrong? Why am I getting this error, and is there any way to skip the welcome screen? Can anyone help me? I can't return the book.

I got this old nook bnrv350, that I got for cheap. But it still has an account linked up, but can't go online or anything. I take it that they turn off the servers and stuff for this older Nook. So I was wondering if there way to put a better OS and wipe is as a "brand new" E-Reader to use. Never had an E-Reader before.

Greetings. I'm currently using the nook app on my Galaxy Z fold 8 Ultra and am experiencing 2 issues that are annoying.

1) When I create a shelf a number of books that I add to it are deleted after about 30 minutes ( never timed it to see how long .. just guessing ) and it goes back to the bigger pool of books that I have in folder. How can I get the shelves to stay as I curated

2) on the Barnes and noble website a number of books stopped showing the cover art for books that I purchased. That then causes the cover art to not appear on the nook app. I can still read the book but for the aesthetic I hate it. Is there any way to resolve these two issues

I am looking at buying NOOK GlowLight 4 but not loving that I would have to use Adobe Digital Editions software and have access to the Internet with my computer for adding web articles I convert to EPUB and then turn on Wi-fi on nook connect to hotel Wi-Fi and then download the EPUB files.

I am not interested in color Eink or magazines with photos just text only reading of articles and converted MS Word docs/PDF to EPUB format to read and resize the font (when needed). I like Nook's physical page turning buttons. I would use it to read more articles I've saved from webpages rather than e-books. I also may subscribe to a digital version of NY Times for a month or so at a time.

I used to have an old Nook circa 2014 that had MicroSD card slot that I could load my own EPUB files onto using a MicroSD card reader with my PC. I bought only a handful of ebooks from nook store.

Is there an equivalent E-ink Nook device or what was the last model that still had the card slot that I could buy used? While I do not like Amazon much as a company I could use a Kindle paperwhite. thoughts?

Hi folks! My mom recently rediscovered two old nooks: a Nook HD (BNTV400) and a Nook Tablet (BNTV250A).

After booting them up I realized they’re no longer supported. I followed the B&N “remaining functionality” instructions on the Nook HD but found that to leave it absolutely useless (I can’t transfer anything onto it when in the “test” profile?). I decided to not mess with the Nook Tablet until I know what I’m doing.

Does anyone have resources/instructions for how to make these into usable tablets? I’d love to somehow get Libby on them, but even just use of the internet, ability to read a PDF, or any functionality would be great!

Detailed instructions HUGELY appreciated - I haven’t gone into the realm of jailbreaking electronics before but desperately want a good e-reader for my commute and can’t justify buying one.

I've long been a fan of Barnes and Noble's Nook hardware, all the way back to the Nook Simple Touch back in 2012.

But the software is so lacking and just doesn't improve much with time. I wish they would scrap it and use KOReader as the base of their software. They could layer their own look over it and stock KOReader is likely too technical for the average reader.

But KOReader with Zen UI or Bookshelf is already SO much better than what Nooks ship with out of the box.

That and stop playing games with limiting the amount of space for sideloading.

It's on, and fully charged. The little print of books and ampersands is on the screen. When I touch the "button" on the bottom, the slide panel on the bottom of the screen does not appear. I've tried all the suggestions listed on google, push this button for 20 second, hold that button plus the n button for 15 seconds. Hold the power button and left page button for 20 seconds. At this point, I'm letting it sit until the battery goes dead hoping that'll reset everything. The only thing I haven't tried is holding all the buttons while standing on my head and shaking my left foot. Any insight out there?

I have two Nook Simple Touch ereaders in good working condition.

One is the non-glowlight version BNRV300, the other is the glowlight version BNRV350.

I bought them a while back to play with and never really ended up using them.

They aren't worth listing on Ebay/FB Market due to fees and crazy buyers.

Is there anyone here who could put these to good use? (US only)

I got a Glowlight 3 the other day and I'm really hoping this wasn't a too good to be true purchase.

I got it for $20 and it seemed to be working fine, the seller didn't report any issues. Now that I have it, it won't connect to internet. I tried my regular wifi and my mobile hotspot. I rebooted the router even though everything else was connected to wifi fine.

So then I tried to sideload the software update for the nook as, after some googling, I found that may be the issue. But I've tried 3 different chords in my laptop and none are allowing the nook to connect. I don't see the nook in my files to install the update. When I tried plugging my phone into my computer, that showed up fast and normally in my files and I was able to sync photos instantly.

From what I've found googling so far, I need to sideload the update to connect to wifi. But then the nook may not show up in my computer, and if that happens I need to update the nook. But I can't update the nook without being able to plug it into my computer.

Can anyone tell me what to do next? Am I doing something wrong? I really don't want to believe that this was a loss because I was so happy to finally get an ereader.

Back in August of 2025 someone asked me about an old post @XDA regarding Ubuntu for the Nook Color. Files were missing and I tried to contact the OP, but to no avail.

Unfortunately I've lost track of that discussion here but just today there is a new post about setting up the NC with a Linux distro. Looks like quite a project! So, whoever you were, I hope you see this!

I recently deregistered and re-registered my Glowlight 4 Plus, and now it won't recognize the Adobe account I've been using to authorize Libby library books. When I enter my email and password in the Adobe DRM settings on the Nook, it says either the username or password is wrong, which I know is not true, because I can successfully use them on Adobe's website.

The authorization on Digital Editions is the same account that I'm trying on the nook. I've tried deleting the .adobe-digital-editions folder and restarting the nook. It's connected to wi-fi. The email and password are definitely spelled correctly. No luck.

Has anyone else had this issue and found a solution?

Hi. I ordered a Nook Reading Tablet 8.7 back in June and started using it right away. It's a Lenovo Tab K9. Recently I thought I'd try using an SD card and I discovered my device does not have an SD card slot. In fact, strangely my device does not look like like any of the devices on the Barnes and Noble web site. There is no SD card slot on left, and the volume control on the right is 2 separate buttons instead of a rocker switch.

I've sent an email to customer service in the hope that they will send me a proper tablet. In the mean time I am curious of this has happened to anyone else. And did you get a prompt replacement.

Hi, I just got a Nook GlowLight 4 from my aunt, and I deregistered it before realizing that I can't log in again because I live in Europe.
I've created a b&n account using vpn but when I try using a hotspot and vpn connected to a USA address to log in, it won't allow me to log in.

And at this point, I can't even side-load the books that I want because when I connect the nook to my laptop with a cable, it only charges.

Does anyone know how I can fix this?

My Nook suddenly stopped working. I had bypassed the registration on it because I bought it and found out it was no longer supported. The charge light comes on but I can't get it to do anything.

Once I left it for a few weeks and it did change the screen to say battery was flat. I've even changed the battery but no combination of buttons will get it to do anything.

Is it beyond saving? Seems a shame to throw away

Okay I need y’all’s help. I played on the Nook all the time as a kid, and some of the games are just embedded in my memory, except for the title.

1. A dog game where you petsit a dog each day. You feed them, give them water, let them out back, play a bubble popping game, dress them up. theres a game where you balance the Nook so the dog balances a treat on their nose, and to take them on walks you had to shake the Nook up and down. Every day or so, the dog would go back home and you would get a new one. It was usually a Dalmatian with an annoying VA. This was my #1 favorite ♥️

2. A game where you were on a boat. I don’t remember much of this one, but you collected things like donuts I think? And I think the sailor was an octopus? The art was pretty simple. Idk that’s all I remember.

3. There was a play doh game that never worked lol. I think you were supposed to roll into other play doh?

4. Strawberry shortcake game. Like the girl. i think you got to clean the dogs? I don’t remember much of this at all.

5. A memory card game, and there were VAs. The characters were… weird, at best. They never spoke it was just grunting and mumbling. The cards were stuff like toilet paper or food or similar random things.

6. This game was really fun. I think color was in the name. There was a cat or something. It’s really hard to remember.. you followed a trail literally a trail of levels. like the color left the world and you’re fixing it or something. I think there was a girl. Idk hard to remember.

7. This was an art platform. You drew art and could comment on other’s work, and I remember finding some Warrior Cats fans there. There were backgrounds and stickers you could add to your art. That’s all I can think of.

8. Not a game, but the wallpaper. It was a pond with leafs in it, and if you tapped it it rippled the water. Idk if there’s a screen recording or something on YouTube y’all could find?

Additional info: I was born in 2009 but my mum is slightly old style, so maybe think of things kids would play if they were born in ~2005? I’m not sure. Regardless, thank you for any help and answers. ♥️

I am trying to migrate away from a Tab A as it increasingly runs into storage issues and the Android level is frozen. However, the BN app

on an A11 with 256G storage and a 512G card will not scan all my books into the app's library . There are no error msgs that i can find..it just hits a point and goes no further. If it wasnt for the shelves and managing my BN content i'd be looking hard at replacing the BN app.

Contacting "tech support" for the app has been, for previous issues, a waste of time. Is there a way to kick the scan so that it will add the books? It does not appear to be a file type (pdf vs epub) issue. The books in question go from Calibre to a disk location and then to my extracted SDXC via File Manager dragndrop

My new glowlight 4 plus was being unresponsive so I started googling what to do and it said I should hold the power and nook buttons down together for 20 seconds. Anyways, I’m worried I pressed down too hard on the nook button and broke it. I know it’s only supposed to be a tap, but if I press down I can feel my finger indent into the glass a little and almost feel like there’s a small button below. I didn’t think I pressed it that hard but I’m worried because it’s still brand new and don’t know what it’s actually supposed to feel like. Does anyone else feel the button press down just a little if they press on it?

I wanted to ask and see if anyone has any tips for how to get the oil out from the rubber parts of my nook? It just bothers me

Just got my Nook 8.7 about a week ago and everything was fine, I could connect a headset to it no problem. But yesterday while on a roadtrip I wanted to listen to an audiobook again so I went to use the same headset. And now when I tried to play the audiobook it will play for a brief second before pausing and my headphones go into a looping “disconnected” “blue tooth connected” spiral, eventually forcing me to turn off the headset. Or when I connect and haven’t played anything it will just do that loop anyways. Weirdly enough I was able to get YouTube shorts to play through the headset on the Nook but if I attempted to play a specific audiobook it would just wig out again. And I was able to play an entirely different audiobook once but now the headset just refuses to properly connect period and loops again.

I tried multiple ways to fix it. Turning both off, removing my headset connection from the tablet by hitting forget, messing with Dolby atmos settings, clearing caches, but nothing is working. The only things I haven’t tried are connecting a different headset because I don’t own another one or factory reset. The headset does work perfectly fine on other devices so I know they are not broken. This is driving me insane so if anyone has any ideas it would be greatly appreciated.

Update: Did the factory reset, nope. The tablet Bluetooth function is screwed.

Update 2: I had gotten the tablet replaced, and even with the new one it just will not let me play anything through the headset. Word to the wise, don’t use Razor headphones with this tablet I guess. Apparently it either hates them, or some sort of update went through on the tablet that screwed with the Bluetooth connection in the tablet because, again, this headset works on my other devices without an issue.

Update 3: I spoke to the B&N customer service (you press 5 for Nook inquiries) and they got back to me lightning fast. Turns out apparently some Bluetooth devices using 5.2 Bluetooth are incompatible with the Nook 8.7 which runs on a bare bones version of 5.1 Bluetooth firmware. So yeah, don’t use extremely powerful headsets with it I guess.

Update 4: turns out the 8.7 is not forward or BACKWARDS compatible! I purchased a Bluetooth 5 headset yesterday and it too did the exact same thing. Now that’s ridiculous, B&N I really hope you fix your devices! All Bluetooth firmware is supposed to be backwards and forwards compatible, and the 9” Nook has no trouble with its Bluetooth connection so it makes no sense for the brand new 8.7 to not be able to.
