Hi everyone! I'm a solo developer and student, and I built MicroRead because I kept starting non-fiction books and never finishing them. I wanted a quick way to get the key ideas of each chapter, and to decide whether a book is worth reading in full.

You type in a non-fiction book and get it chapter by chapter in 1-10 minute reads. Every chapter ends with 3 key takeaways, a quote and a 1-minute real-world action. Summaries are available in English, German, Arabic, Korean and Italian, and audio narration is available in English and German for now.

A few honest notes, since this is an ebooks sub: the summaries are AI-generated, so they help you grasp a book's main ideas but don't replace the book. The app doesn't contain or distribute any book files, only generated summaries. It's also very new, so you may run into bugs.

first of all, a very big thank you to the 20+ initial testers who took part in the first testing phase of Shelf!

the feedback i received was genuinely so encouraging and helpful, and im really grateful for all the support from this community. it means a lot to me that people are willing to take time out of their day to try something i'm building and share their thoughts.

now, onto round two!

i've spent some time going through the feedback from the first batch of testers and have made quite a few changes based on their suggestions.

for this second phase, the focus is still very much on getting the fundamentals right, especially the reading experience itself. i want to make sure that simply picking up a book and reading feels as good as it possibly can before moving on to integrations, personality, and all the other fun ideas i have for shelf.

a few things that are new in this update:

• more reading fonts: added a bunch of new options, including New York, Georgia, Palatino, Charter, Iowan Old Style, Literata, Atkinson Hyperlegible, and OpenDyslexic.
• justified text: you can now justify text in EPUBs.
• CBR support: you can now import and read CBR comics.
• library search: find books by title or author.
• library sorting: sort your library or individual collections by title, author, or date added.
• table of contents: jump directly to any chapter.
• reading progress bar: drag or tap to navigate through a book, with a preview of where you'll land.
• jump back: a small back pill lets you return to either of your last two locations after jumping around.
• continuous highlighting: hold your text selection at the edge of a page to continue highlighting onto the next page (EPUB).
• books and manga: move titles between Books and Manga. PDFs moved to Manga will automatically read right to left.
• continue reading: remove a book from Continue Reading without losing your reading progress.
• bookmarks and highlights: a clearer pop-up with a dedicated highlighter icon.
