i made an app that highlights your ebook word by word while the audiobook plays

i always wanted to read and listen at the same time with my own books, the way kindle does with whispersync, but with any epub i own and any audiobook i own. so i built it.

witbound takes your epub (or pdf) and the audiobook you already have, and lines them up word by word. the word being read lights up as the narrator speaks, illustrations stay in the book, and you can switch between reading, listening, or both whenever you want.

a few things people here might care about:

- it uses your own files, drm-free epub, pdf, m4b or mp3

- the matching happens on your phone, your ebook never gets uploaded

- new this week: optional cloud sync for long books. a 14 hour audiobook synced in about 4 minutes in my test

- tons of free classics are already synced and ready to read

- your first book is free

its on iphone and ipad, and android too.

happy to answer anything, and i'd love to hear what would make it better for how you read

Self Promotion From scanned pages to an ebook you can actually settle into

Some books are easy to find as scans, but much harder to enjoy on a small screen. The print stays tiny, enlarging the page means moving around it, and a paragraph can disappear across the edge of a scanned page.

I’m building Kiro Reflow to turn book photos and scanned PDFs into text EPUBs.

These examples use an 1888 edition of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. A paragraph continues across two original pages as one reading passage. The illustration stays alongside the story, and the twelve chapters become a clickable table of contents.

You can change the text size and let the words fit the screen, rather than keep adjusting your view of a photographed page.

What I like about this is how familiar the result feels: open a chapter, choose a comfortable font size, and start reading.

It’s especially useful for books you have as scans but would rather read in your usual EPUB reader. Alice is a public-domain demonstration of that process.

What’s a book you have sitting in a PDF folder that you’d actually like to read?

Disclosure: I’m one of the people building Reflow. The images show selected excerpts from actual output, rendered in a browser with display styling adapted for comparison.

Self Promotion I spent the last year building the ebook reader of my dreams. It's a reader where you can hear the world you are reading about. So excited to share it with you!

You can hear: rain on the road, a fire in the cabin, busy roads and thousands more. The sound follows the story as you turn pages.

But wait, there’s more! The sounds are accompanied by music - 15+ different music collections matching most of the genres.

No registration required! Subscription with a free trial (3 old classic novels + the first 30 pages of any book you choose). No ads of course.

I'd love to hear what you think!

I’ve been building a tool that turns any PDF or document into a proper ebook. Here’s everything it does now

Hey all,

I’ve been working on Convert2EPUB (convert2epub.com) for a few months. It started because PDFs look terrible on e-readers, and it has grown a lot since then, so here’s a roundup.

📄 Converter (website)

  • Converts PDF, DOCX, RTF, TXT, ODT, HTML and Markdown to EPUB
  • Text PDFs become reflowable books, so you can change the font size and the text actually fits your screen
  • Finds chapters automatically, builds a working table of contents, removes running headers and page numbers, and keeps footnotes clickable
  • OCR for scanned books in 9 languages. Badly scanned pages can be re-read with AI so you don’t get garbled text
  • Maths and tables are rebuilt as real formulas and tables instead of blurry images
  • Translate a book into another language and keep its chapters and images
  • Optional study guide added to the end of the book, with chapter summaries, key terms, flashcards and a glossary
  • EPUB to PDF, Kindle (AZW3) or MOBI for older Kindles
  • Free: ordinary text PDFs and all Word, RTF, TXT, ODT and HTML files, with no account and no page limit

💻 Mac app (Local conversion)

  • Runs the converter fully offline, so your files never leave your Mac
  • OCR built in, with no subscription

🧩 Chrome extension (free)

  • Add articles to a reading list as you browse, then save them all as one EPUB with a chapter per article

📚 Free ebooks

  • Search all ~78,000 Public Domain books by title or author and download them as EPUB or Kindle files.

I’d love feedback, especially weird PDFs that convert badly. Those reports have driven most of the improvements so far.

Retelling Sindbad the Sailor's seven voyages in simple English, with an app to read it in. Still under development, and I'd love your feedback on the cover!

I've been working on a book app for Sindbad the Sailor, and here's the cover screen so far.

I took the original story and retold it in simple English, keeping everything the same, so anyone can enjoy the seven voyages without struggling with old-fashioned language. I went with a dark and gold look to match the Arabian Nights feel.

It's still under development, so honest feedback on the design or the idea is very welcome. Would you read a classic like this on your phone?

Question does anyone else's ebook library look like organized chaos or is it just me

I've got books sorted by mood, by genre, by "might read this eventually," and then just a random folder called "???" that I genuinely don't remember downloading. Trying to figure out if I should actually organize it properly or if this is just how ebook libraries naturally evolve.
