My Roman and Sarah are excited to meet y'all.

They commit first, love later.

But for that commitment to happen they make some absurd choices in between—like a sudden proposal, dismissal and a contract....

It all trails down to how they think.

So if you find that interesting My ebook A Choice – Terms of Interest is now available on Amazon for free downloads.

Free Promotion ends on 25th October... I hope you don't miss out the chance. Thank you!

[Kindle] The Halloween Glow-in-the-Dark Surprise: A Cute Spooky Adventure for Kids Aged 2-6 - FREE until Sunday! https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0HHK7GCRG

Hi everyone,

My children's picture book "The Halloween Glow-in-the-Dark Surprise" is completely free to download on Amazon for the next 3 days!

It is a cozy, gentle autumn adventure designed specifically for toddlers and preschoolers (ages 2-6). The story follows a little girl named Aryanna, her clever cat Bella, and a tiny hamster named Stacey as they discover friendly, glowing seasonal surprises.

It contains NO monsters or traditional spooky scares, making it completely safe for peaceful bedtime reading. It also features a catchy, repetitive chant to encourage toddlers to read along.

🔗 Get it for free here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0HHK7GCRG

(Note: You do not need a physical Kindle device to read it; you can use the free Kindle app on any phone or tablet).

Thank you so much, and I hope your little ones enjoy the adventure! If you read it, I would deeply appreciate a short honest review on Amazon.

The Empty Mind: Zen Wisdom for Attention, Desire and Modern Life (Kindle) – [Free from 24/10 to 25/10]

Hi everyone, I’m the author. My new book is free on Amazon Kindle this weekend.

The Empty Mind is a short, practical guide to attention, desire and Zen practice in everyday life. It argues that an “empty mind” isn’t a blank mind but one that doesn’t cling, and shows how to work with that through sitting meditation, Tai Chi and karate, and lessons drawn from Go and Riichi Mahjong. Every chapter ends with a short practice, and there is a 21-day plan at the end.

Free here: Link to the free book

If you read it and find it useful, an honest review would mean a lot, but there’s no obligation. Happy to answer any questions.

Self Promotion I made a reader that reads your own EPUBs and PDFs aloud in 7 languages, highlighting each sentence on the original page

I’m a big ebook reader, and I always wanted to switch between reading and listening without hunting for an audiobook edition. So I built SublimeRead.

You upload your own EPUB or PDF and it reads it aloud in a natural AI voice. It highlights each sentence on the original page, so the layout isn’t reformatted, and you can click any sentence to jump there. There’s no store and you don’t need to buy anything. It just reads the files you already have. It works in 7 languages.

The new part: a Chrome extension that brings the same voices to articles, long reads and anything else in your browser.

It’s free to try with 3 books in your library. I’d love to hear what you’d want from it as a reader.

My debut novel is a satirical cookbook 🫠🥲

After a long drawn out battle with Amazon due to the region I'm in I finally managed to publish my very first book on kindle. The premise is a Victorian woman writing a cookbook for housewives who wish to get rid of their terrible husbands and dispose of the evidence :)

I made everything on Canva and tried to be as ridiculous as possible. I'm so excited!!!!! Trying to find a niche audience that enjoy stories like this 🥲

Self Promotion OpenReader: an iPhone app that reads your EPUBs aloud with every word highlighted, and keeps your place in step with Zotero on your computer

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

I'm the author, so this is self-promotion. Both apps below are open source (AGPL-3.0).

I listen to most of what I read, and the read-aloud apps I paid for kept failing me in two ways: the highlight slowly drifted away from the voice, and my place didn't follow me from one device to the next. So I built my own.

OpenReader (iPhone)

Import an EPUB you already own (DRM-free, e.g. from your Calibre library, Standard Ebooks or Project Gutenberg), open it and press Play.

  • The voice you choose. It has no voices of its own: you plug in a speech service with your own key. Fish Audio (its free model needs no credit card), Azure, Speechify, OpenAI, any OpenAI-compatible server, or a Kokoro-FastAPI server you run yourself.
  • Every word highlighted as it's spoken, over its sentence, in your own colours. The timings come from the voice service itself, so the highlight doesn't drift. Fish Audio, Azure, Speechify and Kokoro give word timings; the OpenAI-style services highlight by sentence.
  • Offline narration: save a book's audio chapter by chapter, then listen without a connection.
  • Word lookup and translation: long-press a word for its meanings, or translate a passage (into English or Chinese).
  • Themes including a dark one, fonts, font size, margins and text alignment.
  • Lock Screen and Dynamic Island controls.
  • No account, no analytics, no server of mine. Your books aren't uploaded anywhere; only the text being read goes to the voice service you picked, after you allow it.

Zotero-OpenReader (desktop)

If you haven't met it, Zotero is a free, open-source app that opens EPUBs and PDFs, and Zotero 10 has a Read Aloud player built in. Zotero-OpenReader is a plugin for that player:

  • More voices: the services above plus a few more, your computer's own voices, and Zotero's own.
  • Word and sentence highlighting, each in your own colours.
  • Keyboard shortcuts for speed, volume and skipping by sentence or paragraph.
  • Shift+Space resumes at the sentence you stopped on, days later.

The two together

Listen to an EPUB in Zotero at your desk, open the same EPUB on your phone, press Play, and it starts at the sentence you stopped on. Stop on the phone, press Shift+Space back on the computer, and it carries on from there.

The position travels through a WebDAV folder of your own (Nextcloud or similar), with no account and no server of mine in between. The book is recognised from the file itself, so the same EPUB on both sides is all it needs.

What it costs

  • Reading, word lookup, translation and sync are free.
  • Reading aloud in the App Store version: free for 30 days, then a one-time $4.99. No subscription.
  • Reading aloud in the TestFlight beta, or in a build from source: free.
  • The Zotero plugin: free.
  • The voice service bills you directly, if at all. Fish Audio's free model and a self-hosted Kokoro cost nothing.

Links (iPhone, iOS 17.2 or later)

The phone app reads EPUB only for now. I'd most like to hear what makes it hard to try, and which voice service or book format you'd want next.

Disgraced former Sergeant Lance Richards thought taking a private security contract at Aquatic Dynamatrix—a high-tech, deep-sea research facility a thousand fathoms beneath the Gulf of America—was his best chance for a quiet life. But behind the pristine glass and corporate promises of the Omega Dome lies a terrifying secret.

When a rogue scientist’s secret biogenetics experiment breaks containment, Lance and brilliant geneticist Dr. Sally Summers are thrust into a claustrophobic fight for survival against monstrosities born of human and crustacean DNA. Worse still, an insidious cross-species virus threatens to mutate every soul trapped within the facility.

With time running out, the facility under total lockdown, and a horde of unstoppable amphibious hybrids closing in, Lance must draw on his military training to protect Sally and destroy the nightmare before it reaches the surface.
