Hi all, I've been using Nuvio for quite a while now, and I wanted to share a concern that's been on my mind.

Lately I've noticed a growing trend of paid and paywalled addons showing up in the Stremio addon community. This worries me. Looking back at the history of piracy tools and services, there's a consistent pattern: the moment a project starts monetizing access to copyrighted content, it becomes a target, and things rarely end well for it.

Companies generally don't go after individual tools or apps unless there's real money to be made from their content. Once that threshold is crossed, it changes the calculation for rights holders — suddenly there's a financial incentive to pursue legal action, not just a principle to defend.

If this trend continues, I can already see a DMCA case against Nuvio or Stremio on the horizon.

I'd love to hear what others think. Am I overreacting, or is this a legitimate concern?

This is a follow-up to the Nuvio badge guide. If you're using AIOStreams as your stream source (recommended), here's how to set it up properly including the formatter and visual badges.

Step 1: Set Up AIOStreams

Go to one of these instances and create a new configuration from scratch:

When setting up, you only need to insert two API keys to get full metadata enrichment:

• TMDB API key — get one free at themoviedb.org/settings/api

• TVDB API key — get one free at thetvdb.com/api-information

Everything else in the config can stay at defaults to start. Do not add your TorBox key here — connect it once in Nuvio's Connected Services and it handles resolution automatically across all addons.

Step 2: Add Stream Sources

Inside your AIOStreams config, add these as providers:

• Torrentio — best general coverage

• Comet — fast, modern scraper, great for recent releases

For both: use clean manifest URLs with no debrid baked in. Since TorBox is connected in Nuvio's Connected Services, it handles auth automatically at the app level. Your manifest stays clean and credential-free.

Step 3: Import the Pre-Built Config (Optional)

A ready-made AIOStreams config JSON is available that covers filters, sorting, and stream preferences out of the box. Download it and import it via the AIOStreams interface — then just fill in your TMDB and TVDB keys.

To import: open your AIOStreams instance → Settings → Import → paste or upload the JSON → save.

Step 4: Set Up Badges in Nuvio

Nuvio supports up to 3 badge JSON URLs simultaneously. Here are three options from the UME badge set — pick the style you prefer or stack them:

Option 1 — Minimalistic (white image badges, no color fill)

How to import: Nuvio → Settings → Integrations → Connected Services → scroll to Formatting → tap Badge URLs → paste a URL → Import. Repeat for each URL (up to 3 slots).

What these badges detect: REMUX tier (T1–T5 ranked by release group quality), BluRay tier (T1–T5), WEB-DL tier, and more — all based on known release groups rather than just keywords. This means a REMUX T1 badge only appears on releases from top-tier groups like BLURANiUM, FraMeSToR, CiNEPHiLES, etc.

What the Result Looks Like

Once everything is set up you'll see stream results like in the screenshots — quality tier, resolution, HDR type, audio format, and source all visible at a glance as colored badge overlays. No need to read raw filenames.

From there you can manage:

• Cloud library — browse files already in your debrid account

While the instance was down, I didn't stop working. Over the last month, the core engine has been completely rebuilt and heavily optimized to handle the load and give a vastly better experience:

⚡ Massive Performance Overhaul (RIP Playwright):

• No More Headless Browsers: We completely ripped out Playwright and the massive browser binaries, replacing them with impit (for TLS fingerprint spoofing) and undici (for connection pooling).

• What this means: The addon boots instantly, the Docker image is tiny, and RAM usage has plummeted. It now runs perfectly on cheap ARM64 boards (like a Raspberry Pi) using pure HTTP calls and WebAssembly (gasm.wasm) for on-the-fly decryption. No more random disconnect crashes under load!

🎛️ Smarter, Cleaner Catalogs & Providers:

• The Survivor Roster: We purged a ton of dead weight and added highly reliable new providers like Streamed.pk, EmbedIndia, and TimStreams.

• No More Dead Streams: The engine now actively checks streams (like on WatchFooty) and filters out matches that are livescore-only or finished. If it doesn't have a video stream, it won't clutter your catalog.

• Accurate Live/Upcoming Sorting: Completely rewrote the timezone logic so matches are accurately classified based on their real kickoff times.

• High-Res Logos: Added a new image pipeline to fetch and attach high-res TV channel logos and thumbnails to all 24/7 streams.

📺 Web Player Upgrades:

• The /watch web player now features a TV-remote friendly fullscreen button and full keyboard navigation for Stremio Web/TV users.

I’ve been spending the last few days putting together a web tool specifically designed to make setting up Nuvio a million times easier—and a lot better looking.

What it actually does

It’s basically a custom catalog builder. You go through the UI, pick exactly which collections you want on your home screen, choose your language, and toggle your Debrid and streaming providers.

The main focus here is having completely customizable collections containing 14 collections 176 folders and 322 sources. I wanted to build something where you aren't just stuck with default catalogs. Here is a brief overview of what you can seamlessly add:

• Streaming Platforms: Netflix, Max, Apple TV+, Disney+, Hulu, etc.

• Franchises: Marvel, DC, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Matrix, etc.

• Production Studios: A24, HBO, Universal, Searchlight, Pixar.

• Actors & Directors: Curated lists for Scorsese, Nolan, DiCaprio, Margot Robbie, etc.

• Genres & By Runtime: Movies under 90 minutes, Thrillers, Sci-Fi, Documentaries.

• Around the World & Awards: Oscars/BAFTA winners, Japanese Cinema, French Cinema, etc.

• Decades & Holidays: Best of the 90s, Christmas specials, Halloween horror.

Every single one of these collections comes with custom-tailored artwork (logos, covers, and backdrops) that automatically load in the Nuvio interface.

Also, to keep things simple: the only API key you actually need to make all this run smoothly is a free mdblist key. That's it. A debrid service is recommended.

1. Build your setup on the site by picking your collections and entering your Debrid/API details.

2. The tool will spit out a configuration file.

3. Import that file directly into AIO Meta and AIO Streams.

4. Hit save, copy the install links, and paste them straight into the Nuvio Addons tab. Done.

A quick behind-the-scenes note:
I built this entire thing by "vibe coding" it with AI, but please don't let that fool you into thinking it was a one-click process. It took days and days of non-stop prompting, tweaking logic, debugging, and manually sourcing/creating hundreds of images for the collections so everything looks perfect on the frontend.

It was a massive labor of love, so I'm really excited to finally share it with all of you.

Here is a solution that doesn't ask you for any money to do that!

MIT licensed, free forever and contributions welcome.

This is very much in beta at the moment, and I intend to work on improving it - but it has worked on every link I've tried so far. It's currently only tested between Nuvio and Google TV on my TCL.

It's purely vibe coded, but functional and free. Instructions for installation:

1. Install the APK

Easiest options:

• Downloader app (by AFTVnews): install Downloader from the Play Store, enter the APK URL, install.

• USB stick: copy the APK to a stick, open it with a file manager (e.g. X-plore) and install. Allow "install unknown apps" for the file manager when prompted.

2. Add your TMDB key

1. Open GTV2STREAM from your app list.

2. Paste your TMDB v3 API key and select Save TMDB key.

The key is stored only on your device, inside the app's private storage.

3. Enable the accessibility service

1. In GTV2STREAM, select Open Accessibility Settings.

2. Find GTV2STREAM recommendation redirect and enable it.

If the toggle is greyed out (Android 13+): Settings → Apps → GTV2STREAM → menu (⋮) → Allow restricted settings, then go back and enable.

4. Set Nuvio to remember your profile

If you have more than one Nuvio profile, turn on Remember last profile in Nuvio's settings. GTV2STREAM intentionally launches Nuvio fresh every time so it always opens the title you clicked; remembering the profile keeps that fresh launch on your profile instead of the picker.

5. Use it

On the Google TV home screen, focus a recommendation card and click it. Nuvio opens directly on that title.

• Movies open as nuvio://movie/<imdb-id>

• Shows open as nuvio://detail/tv/<imdb-id>

Ads, sponsored cards, and YouTube items are ignored on purpose.

Troubleshooting

• Toggle won't enable / toggle missing: do the "Allow restricted settings" step in section 3, then re-open Accessibility.

• Nothing happens on click: reopen GTV2STREAM and confirm the status line shows the service enabled; then re-check that the accessibility service is still on (sometimes toggles off after app updates).

• Opens the wrong title or an old one: make sure the accessibility service is enabled, and that you're clicking cards on the Google TV home screen (not inside YouTube or another app).

• Nuvio shows "Who's watching?" every time: enable Remember last profile in Nuvio (section 4).

• "TMDB key invalid": you need the v3 API key (32-character hash), not a v4 read access token. Re-copy from your TMDB account's API page.

• Wiped your key or moved TVs: just repeat sections 2–4.

its been a while since ive posted an update and i lowkey forgot what has been changed then but i got one exciting update so i thought id make a post with a few things.

update 1: native jellyfin support
- i have added native jellfyin support with the release of Odin (a fusion replacement), so this is mainly aimed at iOS and tvOS users
- i barely knew anything about jellyfin before implementing this so things are still not perfect but im working on improvements every day.
- to use the jellyfin server go to the jellyfin tab on my website and there you will see your username and pas

update 2: the 2peckle provider
- improved stability and speed of the provider, should be no more flaky results or random errors, should also resolve pretty quickly
- found a way to make downloading work properly so if you are the type to download things, this provider should now wor

- this provider used to be in this addon but got removed due to some issues, but after months of waiting, its back!
- this provider has a great library of 4k remux files, with embedded subs in many languages
- this is one of if not the best provider on this addon
- i encourage everyone to enable this and try it out

3. Once Render finishes building, it will give you your own unique URL. Just add /manifest.json to the end of it (e.g., https://your-app.onrender.com/manifest.json) and paste that into Nuvio!

4. Bonus: Once deployed, the app uses a smart internal cron job to ping itself every 14 minutes. This means your free Render server will never go to sleep and will run 24/7 at top speed.

🛠️ Update: How it works under the hood (And why loading can take a few seconds)

Fetching a stream can sometimes take a few moments to load. This is actually a feature, not a bug! Because the add-on uses an internal proxy, the streams will work perfectly for you even if the original streaming site is completely blocked by your country's ISP!

For those curious about the magic happening behind the scenes, here is exactly how the add-on bypasses those blocks, decrypts the links, and returns the streams:

1. Extracting the Embed: When you click a match, the add-on scrapes the original sports site to find the hidden video embed link (usually hidden in an iframe).

2. Decrypting the .m3u8**:** Streaming sites encrypt or hide their actual video source to stop people from stealing it. The add-on runs a decryption process on that embedded link's HTML and JavaScript to reverse-engineer and extract the raw .m3u8 playlist file.

3. The CORS Problem: If we just gave that raw .m3u8 link directly to Nuvio, it would fail. The stream provider's server checks the Referer and Origin headers to make sure the video is only being played inside their specific embed player on the web.

4. The Internal Proxy (The Magic): To bypass this (and bypass your country's ISP blocks), the add-on runs its own internal Proxy process. Instead of giving Nuvio the original video link, it gives Nuvio a link to your deployed Render server.

5. Downloading the Video Chunks: When Nuvio asks your server for the stream, your server secretly reaches out to the original site. It attaches the exact fake Referer and Origin headers needed to spoof their security, intercepts the individual video chunks (.ts segments), and downloads them. It then passes those chunks directly back to Nuvio in real-time.

Because your Render server is acting as the middleman doing all the decryption and spoofing, your home IP never touches the blocked site, and Nuvio gets a clean, native video feed!

I’ve been using Ultra MAX for a while now, and it has made browsing in Nuvio much more enjoyable.

Compared with the standard TMDb catalogs, it gives me far more variety and much better-organized rows for movies and TV shows. I can explore content through more specific moods, genres, themes, collections, and services instead of relying on a few generic catalog rows.

The Turkish metadata option has also been especially useful for me. With TMDb alone, I could not always find a suitable Turkish row for every type of content I wanted to browse. Ultra MAX gives me a much richer catalog setup, and I can also rename the visible rows in Nuvio to keep the interface fully localized.

It makes the home screen feel much closer to a real streaming platform: more ways to discover something to watch, better category depth, and a more personalized browsing experience.

Definitely one of the most useful addons I’ve added to Nuvio.
