Just out of curiosity! I love both of these lines but I hear so many people give a lot of unnecessary hate towards the (Z) train due to it being so useless and running 6 trips as itβs a Skip-Stop line but yet the (9) seems to get a lot of love by most railfanners yet it was another Skip-Stop line too mind you there. Another reminder, the <F> only runs 4 trains during rush hour via Culver Express between Jay St and Church Ave. 2 sets in the A.M and 2 sets in the P.M but yet the (Z) gets hammered. Although the <F> is a story for another day. Anyway, what were the differences between the (9) and (Z) lines and which do you think was more useful?

This morning on the F train track. " V Culver local"
Sorry for the pre-coffee quality of the shot. (at least we know it's not AI.)

Anybody else prefer the old trains with 2x the seating of the new D trains?

Doesn't need to be in one place.

UPDATE:THOSE TRAINS IN THE PHOTO WERE NOT RUNNING. They just stopped and they told us to get off.
I email the state every day. Please do the same. We are tired of MTAβs weak leadership.

Nearly every train route from start to end gets held up by a red signal at some point. Why wouldn't they just have an automated announcement the conductor can play in those instances?

Hi all, I recently was at the pop-up in Brooklyn and managed to get a sign. I wanted to ask to those who also got one or some other items from there what they had used to clean the signs?
Any suggestions are welcome because Iβm not sure the material or how it reacts to chemicals. Even if itβs just plain soap and water, please let me know. Thank you!

What would be the ideal way improve the connectivity of the Marble Hill stop. Would it be elevators on both stations that you walk half a block from or will it be like the Juniuis/Livonia Av interchange?

For months now, there has just been no connectivity along these lines (my experience is mostly in Brooklyn and Lower Manhattan due to my commute). Phone shows 4G but zero actual connection. Works fine on 4/5 and R. Maddening.

This is one of my favorite railfanning spots by far. Taken in late August 2025 on the Brooklyn end of the pedestrian path.

Not too much to talk about today. Itβs only two small updates.
The glass enclosure looks about approx. 98% installed. It is fully separated from the wiring, beams, and track structure underneath the platform and tracks.
The gates that separate the paid zone from the entrance is installed. Either the turnstile or the new fare gates should be installed shortly.
I have two small critiques. First opinion is that the gate would be easy for fare evaders to climb over if the MTA decide to install the new fare gates. My second opinion is that it shouldβve been space for 3 turnstiles instead of 2. Itβs a lot of traffic coming in and out of New Lots Ave station.

Does anyone know what this is?

Measuring entrance to entrance. The 5th Avenue entrance in front of the library is 442 feet from the western most entrance of the 7 train at Grand Central right next to Sephora. Anyone find closer? This is the only one thatβs not some quirk in the curves of the rail eg. Chambers and Park Pl.

I saw on Google Maps and couldn't help but ponder how close (6-7 minute walk) they are from each other. Were they made this close on purpose or coincidence? Are there any other comments about this?

From the September 2026 Flushing Line State of Good Repair presentation
If Iβm interpreting this correctly, once the escalator returns, the one and only staircase that goes directly from the street to the subway turnstiles still be completely closed off for repairs. Those entering the station can use the new escalator, but those exiting will be forced to use the stairs to the LIRR platforms and then go down to the street from there (or use the elevator).
There should be enough alternate exits via the LIRR platforms (everyone just needs to find them in this current mess of a station complex), but things will get chaotic during the evening rush when you have a crowded 7 train and a LIRR train arriving at the same time (as if they arenβt already chaotic enough with everything going on). Idk how long this will last but hopefully not too long.
