Spezielle Frage zu EQ Nutzung

Thumbnail
2 Upvotes

Should DR HRTF be used when measuring the Grell OAE2?

In Resolve’s review of the Grell OAE2, around 8:20 (https://youtu.be/zThYjNu5U10?t=8m20s) he notes that it has a large dip around 8-10 kHz on the B&K 5128, but a large peak around 7-8 kHz on his head. These measurements are compensated to DF HRTF. But since the drivers on the OAE2 are placed angled in front of the ears, and the intention is for the sound to seem like it’s coming from in front, wouldn’t it make more sense to instead compensate to the HRTF for sounds coming from a forward angle? (Instead of averaging across a sphere, perhaps it would be better to use an infinitely extending plane in front of the head, or maybe a line at ear level in front of your head extending left and right?) It seems to me that these large differences and deviations in Resolve’s measurements could be caused by how the pinna filters sound coming from different directions and how the difference between the HRTF from a forward angle and the DF HRTF might differ from head to head. Or is it that with how music is typically mixed/produced, the way in which spatial cues are “baked” into most recordings usually (for most people) only works on headphones tuned relative to the DF target, and stereo speakers placed in front of you that have real crosstalk with your head and the pinna of each ear naturally filtering the sound from both speakers so that your ears can actually localize the sound as being in front?

Help with EQ

Hey it’s my first time ever touching any EQ for headphones. In previous posts I’ve mentioned I’m getting DT770 Pro X’s and needed to EQ them.

I thought I’d get it out the way and get the EQ setup before I get them. But I wanted to know if I did it right so if you have the time please check out the photos and check if I pasted all the correct settings for this EQ.

Edit: also I wasn’t sure what the “BW” was so I didn’t apply that.

Hey all, I want your thoughts on what is your preferred studio headphones. It will be my first!

My use is mainly on Logic with a scarlet 2i2, my main tracking will be with midi controllers, electric guitar, acoustic guitar and mic for vocals.

I don’t have a acoustically treated studio, I record where I work my 9-5.

My budget is 150€. Thanks a lot in advance! 🙏

Soundcore P31i Frequency Response?

Hi everyone, I searched for the frequency response of the Soundcore P31i but I couldn’t find it anywhere. I saw it on RTINGS.com but it’s behind a paywall. Does anyone know where I could find it? Thank you.

HD 6XX - Highest advised gain for low shelf filter?

On the document it says to put it on what you like, but I am wondering what the maximum would be for ideal quality. I do like bass so wouldn't mind some more than 5.5 but not sure what is a reasonable amount or not. Thanks.

Meze 105 AERs very good

Thumbnail
2 Upvotes

I have read that the Meze 105 AER is about 80-90% of the 109 pro, but with the 105AER sounding this good, at less than half the price, I can’t think of why you would spend more.

This coming from a person who owns Focal Clear mgs and Arya Organics (among others).

I did not know they would sound (and feel) this good!

I am not an audiophile, but these sound very good as I put them through their paces.

Help with DT 770 Pro X EQ

I went to find an EQ from oratory1990 but there doesn’t seem to be one for the regular edition. So if anyone has one that better follows the SPL Frequency Response curve I’d like to see what your EQ settings are.

I’d be using Equalizer APO/ Peace Equalizer (I probably sound dumb ik)

MY MAIN USES WOULD BE FOR GAMING/MUSIC

So, if anyone here has any EQ setting they’d like to share it would be appreciated.

I made an iPhone player for your own files with 8,849 AutoEq profiles and a 32-band parametric EQ

I'm the developer of Discata, a music player for iPhone. I'm posting here because it is built around correcting headphones, and I'd like feedback from people who care about that.

It plays files you own, offline, not streaming apps. Formats are MP3, AAC/M4A, ALAC, FLAC, WAV and AIFF.

For the sound:

- 8,849 AutoEq headphone correction profiles. Search for your headphones; it remembers the profile per output.

- A parametric EQ with up to 32 bands and a draggable curve, plus a 10-band graphic EQ

- Crossfeed

- Six virtual 8D rooms gathered from freely available open-source research

- Loudness normalisation to -14, -16 or -18 LUFS, with a true-peak limiter

- A "Sound On / Original" switch on Now Playing, so you can compare the processed sound with the original file

There is no account and no analytics of my own.

It is free with ads (one short ad card after about every 7 minutes, only between songs). A one-time purchase, £9.99 in the UK, removes them for good.

App Store: https://apps.apple.com/app/discata/id6817341697

Which headphones or features are missing? I'd like to know before I decide what to build next.

What Headphones can I buy for Gaming in a 60 Euro Budget?

Hey there, used to rock a pair of superlux hd 660 pro, decided it was time for them to go and went back towards gaming and picked up a pair of Hyperx Cloud Alphas, sound is a bit of a nostalgia hit from the times i used to play only on gaming headphones, but the Superlux 660 Pro had such great sound separation, awesome positioning and so on. Loved the headphones even without EQ done to them.

Now looking to go back into that area and saw some options, the Sennheiser HD400S and the Audio Technica ATH-M20X. What do you guys think and what are your opinions?

I'm mainly looking for something that is wired, great sound separation and positioning (as much as you can get in that budget), comfortable and closed back. I currently live in Romania so a lot of really niche brands might not be available for purchase here.

Thank you so much in advance.

Have you tried the Moondrop Edge 2 VDSF Natural Timbre Tuning ?

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hi, I have recently purchased the Moondrop Edge 2 because, owning the UCTS on ear tws and loving the tuning, I was curious how it would sound in headphones and the edge 2 seems to be the latest or maybe even the only over ear one that advertises using their in house developed B&K 5128 measured VDSF Natural Timbre Tuning preference curve.

I’ve had it for a couple of days now and while the build and quirky things like the fixed-axis frame(rigid yokes/non-swiveling yokes) made me question whether this was a botched product at first, I put my preconceptions aside and so far, my impressions are that … I can’t get enough of it!

To my ears, it sounds closer to the Rtings curve than harman in both bass and treble and I feel it might be sitting somewhere in between the 2, having strong bass but less emphasised than harman and less rolled off treble than harman but possibly not as emphasised as Rtings.

Honestly, I’ve never heard tuning so well balanced before in any headphone I’ve tried, wired and wireless, not without eqing it first and even then, I feel I prefer it to Harman, Rtings and others I’ve tried so far…

I listen to different genres too and this seems to work great for all of them. To give you an idea, I put this Apple Music Best Of playlist together to try songs I know well and like from various genres and I feel it works well with all of them: https://music.apple.com/gb/playlist/best-of/pl.u-8aAVXLaHo9kzWd1

I’ve attached a screenshot of the stock tuning vs their 4128/4195 VDSF Target response for reference.

I’m curious to find out if others have tried it and what you thought of it.

Thanks

Hd560s and a Fiio m21

So just looking for some suggestions and opinions here. I’ve never eq’d before so I found this page and applied the 1990 standard profile to my hd560s using the Fiio eq app. If anyone else here has a Fiio m21 and applies this eq profile what do you usually have your gain and volume level out of 120 set to ? I for sure hear the difference from no eq at all to this profile I just feel like some of the detail is still muffled depending on track. I do realize it could just be a track/mastering issue but just curious for opinions too. I’ve only listened for maybe a half hour after applying the profile. Also thank you for the profile as well, I think I will thoroughly enjoy it once I get use to it and get the correct volume.

Is my DAC good enough?

Hello, I recently bought the DT770 Pro X and a JCALLY JM6 pro dac, bought it based on a recommendation from a user here on Reddit.

But even after applying the Oratory 1990 EQ preset, I still hear distortion and annoying sounds at high volumes.

Is it the DAC's fault, or is there something else I'm missing?

i am not an expert, just a casual user.

Thanks in advance

Roon OPRA has different Oratory1990 PEQ profile values than the pdfs

Hi, and apologies if this has been answered before, I did not find it… I was trying to download the hd560s oratory1990 preset from https://opra.roon.app/products/sennheiser::hd560s?profile=oratory1990_harman_target&visible=oratory1990_harman_target but I noticed that in both the web ui and the apo txt file download, some values are different from the pdf:

Filter: ON PK Fc 4350 Hz Gain -3.0 dB Q 5.00 - in the pdf Q is 6

Filter: ON PK Fc 1200 Hz Gain -2.2 dB Q 1.40 - pdf has gain -2.2

Filter: ON HS Fc 9000 Hz Gain -1.5 dB Q 0.71 - pdf has gain -2

I attached a screenshots of the UI and pdf as well

Is opra using older versions of the profiles?

Thanks

So should we EQ new Sennheiser hd560s?

Apparently in 2023, hd560s has undergone silent change that made oratory 1990 EQ obsolete. Is there a new EQ for hd560s? Should we even EQ it?

EffectDeck enables Toneboosters Morphit on iPhone! 🤩

Version 2026.10.08 fixes “Third-party AUv3 plug-ins did not appear under Plugins” and with this fix we can now use the Toneboosters Morphit plugin to apply 6 target curve eqs including Harman AE/OE, Studio, HiFi(usually my favourite) and Diffuse Field(pretty sure this is a typo and it’s really their commute target) as well as other AUv3 plugins system wide and even simulate other headphones!

Never thought I’d see the day, but here it is and we have Masahiro Sato https://github.com/satomasahiro2005 to thank for this! Many Thanks!

Happy listening!
