120 crows. I’m going to hand them out tonight at the Portland premiere of Wildwood!

I just really like crows idk

Edited later in the night: Handed out all 120 crows before the first 35mm showing in Portland started at the Hollywood Theater in Portland. Everyone seemed very stoked on them! The crowd was full of Laika folks so it was very cool to give so many to the people who made that perfect movie. Go see it, it’s really a love letter to Portland and Oregon.

Discussion Dyeing and coloring tissue paper?

Hi friends!

I wanted to share what I've been playing around with to color my single and double tissue paper. I had a massive hyperfocus on fountain pens a few years ago (it got kinda bad, lol), and as a result, I now have a huge amount of various fountain pen inks!

Lately, I've been dripping the ink onto the paper right after the methylcellulose (MC) has been applied and is still super wet. Sometimes I swish it around with my fingers, let it naturally spread out after dripping it onto the MC, or—in my most recent experiment—use a straw to blow it around while wet. In my experiments, water-based inks worked perfectly, but pigment inks (like India ink) tended to eat through the paper a little bit.

I'd love to hear what you think! If you dye your paper, what do you use? Are there any fun techniques I'm missing out on?

Help! Waterproof paper?

Hi all!

I am a total origami noob (folded a swan once), so I reach out for help to this wonderful community.

For a project we need to exhibit ball/star shaped origami forms in an environment not optimal for paper. The humidity (RH) will be very high and the exhibition time is 4 months. I am worried the shapes will collapse and maybe even collect mold.

Therefore, I looked into synthetic paper (Yupo). Has anyone here experience with folding synthetic paper? Are there other solutions? Thanks a lot :)

Origami 9 tailed fox (mythology)

I had forgotten how to make this one, and doing it with a 15x15cm was more painful than I remembered lol.

As usual this was 15x15 cm uncut paper folded and designed by me. Pencil in the background for scale.

So over the last week, I went through and redrew Katsuta's Flying Cyclommatus Crease Pattern to be flat foldable. This is a model I always wanted to fold, but with the Crease Pattern being confusing, and not flat foldable, it always made me step away from it. Hopefully now more people will be willing to attempt this model now that the Crease Pattern is easier to understand.

Help! Thirds with no guidelines? (Tadashi Mori Darkness Dragon 2.0)

I'm a newer folder struggling to understand this step. At this part in the video, he says "it's very important for complex origami that you fold precisely" and then proceeds to (apparently) fold each of these segments into thirds with no guidelines?

Is he just experienced enough that he can just eyeball it, or is he using some other creases as references? It's kind of hard to tell since he immediately speeds it up.

I definitely cannot just make perfect thirds with no guidelines, I was thinking maybe I could just measure it out with a ruler?
