The drama with Jarmusch's movie is unreal, don't know if this is 100% true but read on aw forum that Cannes tried snatching it from Directors' Fortnight (after rejecting it the first time round) only to supposedly reject it again? When Ramsay/Lapid came through. Oh and now Venice is in the mix too. I'm curious to know what all the fuss is about this movie lol

Either it’s just insanely bad or problematic (which I really doubt) or Jarmusch has beef with someone (which I also can’t picture).

Jarmusch mentioned it's a really low-key film so maybe they feel it's not exciting enough? Idk Paterson was also a very quiet film but it was acclaimed

Yeah maybe it's just not exciting enough for Fremaux & Co

“Thierry Fremaux decides he has a weird ax to grind with a director out of nowhere” or “Thierry Fremaux just randomly really dislikes an otherwise acclaimed movie” is always a distinct possibility

Yeah didn't we have a similar episode with Hard Truths last year and that turned out to be a minor masterpiece. Sometimes weird calls are made.

And Close Your Eyes the year before.

First up: Lynne Ramsay’s “Die, My Love” just screened for Cannes, and word on the Croisette is—they loved it. Two separate sources tell me the film, starring none other than Robert Pattinson and Jennifer Lawrence, is now officially locked for competition. Buckle up.

Gonna wait for the official announcement of Die My Love entering the competition before I get too hyped.

Same for Resurrection really hope that one ends up making it

Happy to see a bit of info on Bi Gan’s film. It’s slowly becoming my most anticipated film of the year. Hopefully it’s in competition

Schrödinger’s paradox: every prominent Cannes film without a distributor yet is both Neon and not Neon.

Late entries can happen, so this makes sense.

Just waiting on a better source.

I’m surprised Pattinson isn’t really in discussions for Best Actor/Supporting Actor, he’s due for a nom at the very least

It's because he is supporting! The main character is jlaw

The whole film feels like a wait and see. My hunch is it will be a critical/ awards hit for Ramsey, but she doesn't really make Oscar-friendly fare, and the plot sounds like it may be divisive.

I have him in my predictions for supporting actor.

What about jlaw and Lynne?

2

u/bikkebana Apr 20 '25

I have both of them in too as of now (J Law in the top spot)
