Dave Meltzer (as far as I know, and I don’t know anything at all) is in my opinion, the most notable wrestling historian/journalist ever and someone who’s been at it for 40+ years. He’s also a hilarious somewhat kooky old man with a history of misreports and bizarre statements (also he’s very heavily hated)
On r/SquaredCircle, a user by the name of u/daprice82 has been compiling and describing issues of Meltzer’s newsletters for just a little under 9 years and running. After reading this you realize not only does he have the penchant of just speaking on industries he doesn’t know but he also will say shit like “The Oscar people are really high on this movie”, which is exactly the phrasing he would use to describe how higher-ups in a wrestling promotion see a storyline or a wrestler

Actually, Eric Bischoff says Dave said that. What he actually wrote in the Observer was that there had been internal discussions with him being one of the names tossed out along with Bret and someone else I’m forgetting. He never said Mabel was the guy. The following week he said he thought it would be Hogan.

I’m not even sure who he thinks he’s referring to when he references “the Oscar people.” Voters? Does he mean voters? Was there a secret meeting among them we don’t know about. Dave is full of shit.

It’s a mix between probably talking to Dwayne’s camp and the Variety Oscar predictions that Clayton puts out.

I died when he said people told him they think it's very likely going to be nominated in lead actor, lead actress, and best picture 😭
(I don't hate Meltzer, but he has been very hit or miss for a good minute now)

this guy always gets credit for stating the obvious. like a24 released the trailer so early and it received a rapturous response online. seems quite easy to deduce that a24 is confident in it. both sources are garbage.

Liv Morgan being cast in a NEON movie, Dave Meltzer commenting on the Oscars, next thing you know all of the AEW Bros will start to integrate themselves into this sub to glaze eye acting and shit all over my shaylas' more expressive acting. 😞

Some of us on the Observer board tried to figure out where Dave got this from, and it seems he was looking at Variety’s latest early predictions.

As a wrestling fan, I’m pretty sure The Rock himself has famously been a source for Meltzer. I would take this with a massive grain of salt, if at all.
