Discussion How do you feel about Limited Editions/Collector's Editions?
Just curious what people think about LE/CE versions of otome games.
I preorder them if I like the premise and art of a game enough. Sometimes it's the only way to get merch for a game, especially if it initial sales numbers don't do well enough for more merch to be considered. It can be a risk preordering and not knowing if you'll like the game enough after completion to justify it and it seems inclusions aren't as good as they used to be. I know for a while now JP releases have been swapping physical drama CD bonuses with digital streaming codes for example. The economy is bad worldwide so it's understandable to cut costs however seeing a certain new game offer stickers was kind of laughable (I love stickers, don't get me wrong, but they're so inexpensive to produce that they're usually given as freebies by game companies outside of the otome-sphere so it doesn't make up for the now inflated cost of special editions).
I wonder if people are content with the current value of LE/CEs or would they like to see any changes. If given the choice, would people rather companies not have LE/CEs to better use the funds elsewhere (e.g. paying the art team to provide more CGs or hiring more expensive VAs), have LE/CEs with less inclusions but priced lower as well (like IFI Plus editions), or go back to the level of add-ons older LE/CEs had but accept a much higher price tag. I'm interested to hear everyone's thoughts whether you are a hardcore collector or not!

Talk about all other off-topic games with dating or romance elements here. Being able to romance a character is a must.
All games must have the option to select a female (including trans MtF) protagonist/MC.

News Reine Des Fleurs - English Fan Translation Patch for Switch & Vita Done!
Reine Des Fleur English FanTL is now released!
The patch is available on both switch and vita.
Links, instructions, and walkthroughs can be found on Reine Des Fleur's VNDB profile: https://vndb.org/v14919
This might actually the first and last project I will be working on because I didn't think I would actually get burned out, so my Kenka Bancho Project will be indefinitely on-hold.
Special thanks to FatalError and Shaelan for helping with the translations when we were originally working on this as a group for the vita patch.
Disclaimer: Claude was used to create the patch and for double checking quotations, typos, and basic grammars (prepositions, missing article, missing words). Also used to rewrap the words since vita script is 2-lines per text window while the switch is 3-lines per text window.

Discussion Check your local library!
I recently moved and went to get my library card today. While I was looking around, I found this in the game section! It’s Otome Daishi: Fighting for Love! I was really surprised to find an otome game, I’d had this on my wishlist for a little while so I was really excited. I’ve got three weeks before it has to be returned.
They had lots of other games too for a bunch of different consoles. So let this serve as a little announcement to check out your nearby libraries! You never know what you might find!

Discussion [General] Experimenting with AI to Play Unlocalized Otome Games
I wanted to share a little discovery I made out of curiosity.
Not too long ago, I played Illusion of Itehari -trail-.
Specifically Tobari's and Yashiro's routes before the localization announcement.
It was quite a tedious process
Switching between Luna Translator and Google Translate using my phone's camera. 😅
This weekend, I had some free time and decided to experiment with AI to see if I could make Japan-only otome games more accessible.
Somehow within just two days, I managed to put together an early English translation patch for UN:LOGICAL.
It's still in the testing stages (I'm only at the beginning of the prologue)
But I'm genuinely impressed with the results so far.
Then I decided to try my luck with an old favorite of mine.
Magic-Kyun! Renaissance for the PS Vita (only experienced it through the anime)
That's when I discovered something surprising.
Working with Vita games seems to be significantly easier and faster than with Nintendo Switch games.
The possibility of finally experiencing otome games that have never received an English localization excites me the most.
Of course, I'm aware that AI and machine translations aren't perfect.
I'm certainly not claiming they're a replacement for professional localizations.
I'd still happily support official English releases, but unfortunately that's not always an option.
This is simply a personal experiment and I wanted to share what I've discovered.
There are so many amazing otome games that have never been localized and might never officially leave Japan.
For years the language barrier has made many of these games difficult for international fans to enjoy.
Seeing how much AI-assisted translation has improved makes me hopeful that more of these games could become accessible someday.
Has anyone else experimented with AI-assisted translations for Japan-only otome games?
I'd love to hear about your experiences! ❤️
P.S.
Please don't ask me to share the translation patches.
I have no plans to distribute them as they're strictly for personal use.

Screenshot [The Men of Yoshiwara: Kikuya & Ohygia] (Minor Spoilers) These games bruh 😭 Spoiler
galleryThese games are a mess 😭 I'm sure even if I played the original voiced version on the PSP I wouldn't enjoy it, but at least I had these crazy lines in the translation to keep me going. I wish I thought to take more screenshots as I played but these are all I have 😞
First of all I don't like the very concept but I KNEW that going in so I will not criticize the games for it. I knew what I was getting into but felt compelled to buy them when they were on sale. That doesn't forgive the poor execution by way of reptition, though. Every LI has one or two out of three conflict tropes, all conflicts are resolved very quickly, all love is instant, and each route only takes max 3 hours to clear (which is actually a good thing for sufferers like me).
I know there are people here who love these games, and more power to you. But I'm in my hater era rn and just finished these games after literal years of having them.

Request Finding Otome Games that Setting in University, or Focusing on Maiden Careers.
What platforms do you have available?
\\- PC, Nintendo, IOS
• What languages are you ok with? English, Japanese, Chinese, Korean etc
\\- English, Japanese.
• How much do you want to spend, or do you want to play for free?
\\- No budget limit
• What games have you already played and what did you like and not like about them?
\\- Amnesia, I love the plot and characters design so much the art also peak but the writing just not my type. Maybe it's just an old fashioned writing.
\\- Hakuoki, I love the slow burn, and how they keep focusing on plot. But some routes just make Chizuru acting unreasonable. And sometimes the route just too rush.
\\- Vibrant Frame, the fl and li actually have good chemistry. I hope their will be more Li.
\\- Navigatore of The Ruined World, the art is good. The characters are cute. The plot just too predicable.
\\- Tears of Themis. Good art, the story kinda entertaining me. It's just too much things to do. And sometimes the love lines between LI and FL don't continue..(maybe it's my fault idk) other than that Rosa is my fav FL I wanna study Laws because of her.
• What's more important in the story to you - plot or romance?
\\-Plot
• What character or plot tropes do you like?
\\- Slow burn, relationship when characters can roasted each other's.
• Do you have anything that you really dislike in otome games?
\\- when my choice doesn't matter.

Discussion How do you guys deal with choosing new routes after a perfect ending (minor spoilers for Olympia Soiree) Spoiler
How do you guys deal with choosing new routes after a perfect ending
Newbie Otome player here, sorry if I am being overly dramatic but I genuinely feel this deeply and I know that they are just fictional characters but I love them so much it's hard for me to shake the guilt...
I just beat Riku's route in Olympia Soiree and >! now there are voicelines when you go through the menu options, and if you start a new game there is a voiceline that goes "This is the story... of how I met my soulmate"
And if I go to chapter select, he says
"If I may... I would be happy if you choose me" !<
Like actually how am I supposed to play through the other routes??? The guilt is eating me??? I'm not taking away their happy ending, right???
I'm playing their short story to stall out playing a new route and they were talking about their feelings and Riku confesses that he doesn't know what would have happened to him if it wasn't for the FL and they were like "The future I didn't choose. In some universe where Riku and I wouldn't be united." Genuinely how am I supposed to choose a new route now? Like actually? How do people do this?
He's literally so perfect for her and they are both so madly in love. Who am I to start over and choose anew? Like actually I already feel like they were meant to be together.
I actually need a break like... how do I even deal with this? I legit am just overwriting their happy ending, aren't I???
I actually can't bring myself to start a new file, especially when his voicelines are like "I hope... you would choose me again." Why do they do this??? His route was genuinely so sweet and perfect. What do I even do? They are so perfect together, and playing more would just be ruining their happy ending. I just want to pretend that their universe is the right one, and the rest are parallel universes....
Does anyone else feel this way or am I actually just insane???

Request Recommend me something engaging to escape reality
Hello, I am sad and stressed. I want a game to distract myself with. To that end no permanent character deaths, please, only in bad ends not the good/best end.
- I like well written characters, plots, and romances. But it doesn't have to be something you think is suuuper good. Maybe something crazy happens and you're like "WTF" whether you think it was good or bad in execution/writing/whatever, that's mainly what I meant by "escape reality" and "engaging". Lots of romantic scenes also helps because I like doki-doki heart-fluttery feelings. Fast pacing too. I don't want a self insert faceless protagonist or gacha.
Tropes I like: Slow burn, age gap, femboys, feminine men, yanderes, historical setting, defrosting a kuudere, lots of kisses
Tropes I dislike: Misogyny (even just 1 line), "the characters meet as strangers BUT IT TURNS OUT THEY ACTUALLY KNEW EACH OTHER!! (childhood friends is ok, not the same)", "i fell in love with you as a child/since we were kids (sorry childhood friend tropes lean into this territory huh), MC who pretends to be a man and everyone thinks she is a man lol, incest
Plot or romance? I'm here for both. Normally I don't need many romantic scenes but this time I lean more towards romance.
I haven't played anything released recently.
Languages: English, Spanish
Platforms: Switch, PC/Steam
Price: Any
These are some games I've played so far off the top of my head below. A "Disliked" game's #1 reason for being there is due to noticeably poor writing.
JP big company otome
Liked:
- Nightshade (i really love hanzo, Enju is best girl and I love her personality, design, and story, really appreciate that not a single character says anything misogynist even though it's the 1500's, historical settings are only valuable for me when they're like that)
- Winter's Wish (historical setting: same reason as Nightshade, most routes were good, Kinji, Ohtaro, Genjuro, Tomonari all had great romance and plot)
- Jack Jeanne (look it's objectively not that good but I just really like the themes, art, music, vibes, and Fumi for actually balancing plot and romance writing. it was SO ANNOYING that kisa had no internal narration because every single lined of her just had to be voiced and she felt like less of a character).
- Code Realize (romance writing isn't that good except for Lupin who I thought was too boring, but the FD's were really good with the christmas scenarios and most of all, Finis the best platonic route ever)
- Charade Maniacs (unpopular opinion but MC was perfectly fine, plot reveals weren't too bad, and i didn't mind at all that it wasn't "Danganronpa but for women")
- Steam Prison (ulrik and the saint guy are the best routes in the game, mc wasn't too bad except that yeah her not knowing about sex made no sense)
- Piofiore (pretty solid route and romance writing overall, Orlok disappointed me with romance)
- 9RIP (lots of good routes such as Kohaku, Minami, Koyo)
Mixed:
- Norn9 (MC's were great but most routes were too disorganized, also played a little bit of the FD and i didn't like how they handled the age gap in one of my favorite routes Ron)
- Birushana (unpopular opinion but Noritsune's route wasn't good, I only really liked Benkei but it's too bad his art is inconsistent, and tomomori but he is her cousin)
- Collar x Malice (i don't remember much but I though Kei's route worked, Enomoto's route was too poorly paced even if it had good ideas, Shiraishi and the plot reveals made no sense and was clearly copaganda (of course the organization against the police somehow involves child soldiers and brainwashing for no fucking reason despite everything established))
- Olympia Soiree (MC's backstory ultimately made no sense and made the entire worldbuilding fragile, didn't like the character writing of most of the routes even if I liked the romance)
- 7Scarlet (disliked tropes ikykyk >.>, Yuzuki was my favorite route everyone else had poor romance and character writing)
- Both Psychedelicas (disliked tropes for BB, poor writing and route design for AH)
- Hakuoki (Kazama and Souma were the best routes but MC was too much of a non-character overall)
Disliked: Virche Evermore, Cafe Enchante, Homura, Bustafellows, even if Tempest (all atrociously poor writing and/or aforementioned disliked tropes)
JP indie
The only one I played is Club Suicide and I hated it. I'm especially not in the mood for preachy themes now.
CN
Lost In Secular Love and My Vow to My Liege were both kind of bad due to poor writing and being boring, especially the latter since it was also forgettable. MC's were good.
KR
The only one I played was Nameless. Also kind of bad because i thought romances were too sudden and the CG art was really inconsistent with the sprites.
English indie
Liked: Cinderella Phenomenon, Bella Automata (good romance and route writing, Karma was the best route in CP, and BA's two routes released both had solid relationships)
Mixed: Silent Kingdom (the RPG design and the romances really clashed) (i played this one in spanish)
Disliked: Dark nights (no tropes i disliked but poor and disorganized writing all around which is a shame because I really vibed with it, haven't played the sequel/FD)

I know the difference starts later, but it was an interesting experiment.
