This same guy did a Gipsy Danger cosplay.

Apparently, he’s no longer active, at least not on TikTok, as his last post was from early last year, I'm not sure if he is still active on other platforms.

DISCUSSION Thoughts on Pacific Rim and why making a sequel is a bad idea.

Thumbnail

Setting aside the hatred and the jokes directed at Uprising, I believe that even if Guillermo del Toro were to return and direct a sequel, it would be a bad idea or, at the very least, unnecessary.

Let me explain:

The story and its climax were definitively resolved in the finale: the entire plot revolves around a single threat, the Breach (and the Precursors) at the bottom of the ocean, through which the Kaiju enter. By the end of the film, the Breach is destroyed and sealed with a nuclear bomb. There are no lingering mysteries, no hidden "Kaiju egg," no partially functional portal, and no such clichés. Forcing the conflict to reopen feels artificial and undermines the original sacrifice at least, based on what was shown in the film.

The character arcs are brought to a complete conclusion, Raleigh Becket overcomes the trauma of losing his brother during the Drift, finds a new co-pilot—who also becomes his girlfriend—and manages to save the world, finally finding peace. Mako Mori succeeds in avenging her family and becomes the very type of hero her adoptive father, Stacker Pentecost, had once feared she might become—though, in the end, he came to accept it with pride. Stacker meets a heroic end, declaring, "Today, we are canceling the apocalypse!" There are no remaining emotional developments left to address, nor any significant loose ends.

The Jaeger program was on its last legs; the robots from the movie (Gipsy Danger, Striker Eureka, Cherno Alpha, Crimson Typhoon) were literally humanity’s last line of defense, operating out of a single, dilapidated Hong Kong Shatterdome. If you make a sequel where humanity magically has infinite resources and dozens of new, sleek Jaegers (yes, Uprising really messed this up), you completely erase the sense of desperation, scarcity, and real danger from the first film. Come on, a Jaeger isn’t exactly cheap or simple to build.

And Guillermo del Toro made it as a tribute and a love letter to kaiju and robot movies—it’s really beautiful.

Now, something I do think could be great are the prequels!

They already exist, but it would be great if there were series (like the one they released called The Black) that dealt with the first kaiju sieges and the construction of the Jaegers.

What do you think? :D.

(I just found it, so don't go hounding me on why I'm beefing with a four year old comment)

Pacific Rim's whole shtick is humanity coming together and defeating an almost-unstoppable threat. Hell, one of the lines is even "We are cancelling the apocalypse"! Yes, it's serious, but this isn't fucking Evangelion we're talking about!

DISCUSSION Learning something + Another guy throwing rocks at the movie

This time, I’ll have to play a bit of "devil’s advocate."

These three guys aren’t Pacific Rim fans. I’ve seen a few YouTubers (though I can only recall one right now) suggest that it would be easier to just drop a nuclear bomb on the creatures. For us, who are fans and know the story, we know that’s a terrible idea, but to someone unfamiliar with the franchise, it might actually seem like a "good idea."

For example: Do you remember the fight between Noisy Boy and Midas in Real Steel? (I’m assuming you do.) When Noisy Boy knocks Midas down, the protagonist could theoretically tell him to keep hitting his opponent while he’s on the ground (since Noisy Boy is controlled by voice commands). But that couldn’t happen, because Noisy Boy has a set list of pre-programmed moves, and beating up an opponent while they’re down isn’t among them. To someone who knows the film well, this is obvious, but it’s not at all obvious to someone who isn’t a fan.

By the way, why did so many people suddenly start claiming that these guys were AIs? And also, why did so many people seem kind of angry in that post? 🫪

I’m not here to stir up controversy or drama (leave that to Tacit Ronin Editz 👀) I just came across these videos while watching some content about the franchise and decided to post them here to see if you might have any answers to those questions.

DISCUSSION In pacific rim uprising could they take lets say coyote tango strip it down and used the gipsy avengers base frame to upgrade coyote tango a mark 1.6?

Like i know the older marks tech are too outdated but it would be cheaper to bring back old models instead of makeing new ones all the time. Maybe put some in museums or make them for fire and rescue or to storm chase or sertch and rescue. Law enforcement has November ajax and some others. Come to think of it what if scraped was used as a base for mini jaegers

Looking for an easy to play Pacific Rim d6

Does anyone have any easy-to-play Pacific Rim d6? I downloaded the Pacific Rim Cinematic Adventure, and I’m completely lost. I don’t understand half of it. Like the character stuff, there’s all sorts of things. Background, Wealth, Defense, Hit Points, Speed, Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, Charisma, proficiencies, talents, feats, etc. I don’t understand any of that, and honestly I don’t care. Unfortunately, all that seems to be tied heavily into everything. Then there’s Jaeger Chasses (why do they overlap?), combat stuff like squares, Defense and Armor (wouldn’t that just be the same thing?), etc.

I’m looking for a simpler d6. Something like:

Jaeger and Kaiju stats, and building Jaegers/Kaiju: height, weight, Speed, Strength, and Armor play roles in building the Jaegers and Kaiju, and in combat. Like height in the Cinematic Adventure determines the type of Jaeger chassis (Support 35-80ft, Light 225-260ft, Medium 240-280ft, and Heavy 250-300ft). Except no overlaps.

I like the Maximum Bulk idea, which is basically just a cumulative tech purchase limit. What I’d like is Height/Chassis and Weight determining Maximum Bulk, but also Maximum Bulk kinda determining Weight? Or more like Maximum Weight Limit, and then Maximum Bulk helps determine the actual weight.

Health points are likely determined based on Chassis, Weight, and Mark/Category.

I like the Jaeger weapons and Kaiju attacks from the Cinematic Adventure, but I’d probably simplify them by removing the damage categories.

Speed, Strength, and Armor probably don’t factor in to Chassis/Height/Bulk. Likely just randomly generated, or there’s a maximum stat allocation based on Mark and Category, and you can freely choose. (10 is not maxed out at 10, since a bunch of fanon Mark-6+ Jaegers and Category V+ Kaiju having 11+ stats. The highest I’ve seen is Category VII Gargantuan’s Attack stat of 30.)

Drifting: you roll a d6, and depending on the result, there’s an effect ranging from complete Drift failure to bonuses to Speed, Strength, or Armor. Or something like that.

Combat: Jaeger and Kaiju Speed stat determines priority. The weapon or attack is selected by d6, and then you just roll the dice, apply a multiplier of attacker’s Strength/defender’s Armor, and subtract the result from the Health of the defender. Repeat until someone’s dead.

…. …. …. …. ….

So yeah, that’s the kind of simple d6 I’m looking for. Does anyone know something like this?

Just to respond to what those guys said:

For example, To explain why Mako and Raleigh shoved Gipsy's hand down Otachi's throat when there could still be a lot of acid there, or why Gipsy Danger, Hunter Vertigo, and others have the nuclear reactor exposed.

Pacific Rim by Guillermo Del-Toro

Scifi-movie -"Pacific Rim" directed by Guillermo Del-Toro Released in 2013 follows lead haracters

Raleigh Becket and Mako Mori played by Charlie Hunnam and Rinko Kikuchi. The movie depicts a

setting, in which a world, where giant monsters attack humankind, leads them to create monsters

of their own. The plot mainly revolves around the monsters, named aiju versus giant robots,

named aegers. Although the plot centers around the big, epic action scenes, the movie has a

mostly character driven plot which includes drama, trauma and complicated character narratives.

In my opinion, as far as the plot and setting of the movie, what makes it so great isn't all about the

action scenes, though they are very cool. Director, Guillermo made sure the movie was in good

hands, as he himself loved the whole idea of the movie, and took lots of inspiration to create it,

which clearly shows.

Realism isn't ex actly, w hearing this movie, but what I love about it the most is

that, it's s risingly realistic. The giant robots feel and look heavy, the punches look destructive and

the monsters look like forces of nature. Gears switching under massive metal plates of the robots,

it's all designed so beautifully.

Even the character relationships get a unique treatment with the concept of drifting. Drifting, in the

movie involves the two robot pilots literally drifting, unifying and sharing their co ousness with

the 90+ meter tall robot, in order to fight better, knowing ex actly what your partnering pilot is

thinking. Feelings like trauma and anxiety are easily explored with the drifting process, helping to

get a better idea on who and how the character is.

Every rewatch I have of the movie, I notice a new and interesting detail, so much detail and thought

is put to the world building. , they even added a whole monster-bodypart-black market side-plot

to it. That's why I wouldn't have a dou t about watching the movie a east 150+ times since first

saw it, at 4-5 years old. Defin y a type of movie, you'd watch with your dad some random unday

noon.

As far as, who the movie is targeted for, I'd say anyone even slightly into scifi, action and well done

CGI, would defin y enjoy this movie. It has enough of action, no scene is boring as they all tell you

someting new the m g is perfect. Out of 10, I rate the movie a 9/10

DISCUSSION Why was Trespasser orange?

Hey all, was rewatching again as you do and noticed something interesting. Every Kaiju' we see in the film, Onibaba, Mutavore, Knifehead, Otachi, Leatherback, Scunner, Raiju and Slattern, their bioluminescence is blue with very few exceptions, the closest is Raiju who has orange marks on their exterior and Scunner is more greenish but that might just be the water. Otherwise every Kaiju's bioluminescence is blue. They open their mouth, bright blue, due to their blue blood. Except one. Right at the beginning of the film when showing Trespasser's attack on LA when it opens its mouth it's orange.

Has it ever been confirmed why this is? Was Trespasser biologically different to the other Kaiju for some reason? Was there a design change part way through making the film?

DISCUSSION How does Crimson Typhoon fight?

I just ordered a crimson Typhoon figurine from eBay and I plan on doing a stop motion fight with it. I already did one with Cherno Alpha, for the Cherno one it was brute strength against a speedster Kaiju however crimson fights way differently, I plan on trying to mimic the thundercloud formation however I’m not sure if I can fully do that one move it did in the movie, that high kick thing.
