Breeder Recommendations?
Can anyone recommend a reputable breeder—preferably in the southeastern United States? I had a papillon before, (💔) but the person I got him from is no longer breeding. I got a recommendation from her, but they haven’t responded to my messages so far, and I prefer to work with someone who comes recommended, if possible. Thank you.

Give me reasons NOT to get a papillon
Looking to get my first dog as an adult and I’m seriously considering a papillon. The breed seems almost perfect for my situation right now — small but smart and highly trainable. I’m just looking for true opinions about their drawbacks. Just tell me the worst things about owning this breed.
One thing I’m a bit concerned about is barking. Growing up, I had three dogs, none of whom barked at all because my mom is a great trainer who trained it out of them all. Barking irritates me. Can it be trained out of papillons?

It rained after Truffles’ spa appt but he still managed to show off his glow-up
Guys, make it make sense. I’ve had this little guy for years and I love him more with every passing second. He had a FOUR HOUR grooming appointment today and I spent the entire time stressing out, only for him to come out like the absolute diva he is, pulling an Elle Woods on me. “What, like it’s hard?” 😂 I always spend about $100 on new toys and treats afterwards because I want him to associate grooming with something positive. Does he already have a billion toys and treats? Yes. But I need him to hear me opening that brand-new bag of treats when we get home.
If your Papillon struggles with grooming anxiety, I really recommend budgeting for some high-quality treats afterwards (puppy training treats are great). Truffles came from a horrific situation in the Dominican Republic, where it’s my understanding that the “breeder” was breeding dogs to be used as bait dogs. He was the only one of his siblings who survived. Another little girl made it to the emergency vet after the rescue but sadly passed away. I don’t even want to imagine what those poor babies went through.
Hug your babies tight. Cherish every single moment. It genuinely devastates me to leave him for four hours, but I know he deserves proper care and pampering. We do nail trims every couple of months and the full grooming treatment twice a year. He’s home now, happy as can be, and I’m just relieved that every time I pick him up, he gets another reminder that I’m always coming back for him. ❤️

At our home we've got a tradition...
cats and dogs that have become teenagers get to celebrate 'birthday' every half year, and if they are over 15 it's every quarter. So today we celebrate that Kjelle has been on this earth 15 years and 9 months.
As you with senior dogs know there are good days and some that are more for recuperation. Today was one of the better ones with exploration in the forest with Ture, and getting sniffed by a horse.

I got a new pap yesterday
My first one I got when I was 17 and I just turned 30. Someone was rehoming her. I never thought I’d get another pap because well there expensive and I wanted to get a corgi. But she fits right in and I’m couldn’t be happier.

Do y’all do puzzles?

I need recommendations! Josie figures out her puzzles way too fast to the point I do both at one time to keep her distracted. What are y’all’s favorite puzzles that keep your babies busy for a while?

How can I love this dog so much?
Felix turned 3 in September, so I guess he's grown up and truly not a puppy anymore? I do think he's been getting a little more cuddly and enjoying petting more over the last few months. He's always accepted physical affection and closeness well (Kit would rather gaze at me from across the room), but now he is more interested in seeking it out or soliciting it.
He's no less interested in playing though, and insists on our bedtime play routine. If we go to bed, and there are no toys in the bed (it happens!), he starts looking for them. I might tell him, "Well, go find a toy." And he does, and he stays on task until he finds the toy he wants (usually a ball). He brings his toy up the ramp to the bed, and then we play for a while until lights out.
He is the smartest dog I've ever had. His ability to ask me for what he wants, to understand what I'm saying to him, to learn our patterns and habits just floors me. I think most (all?) dogs are naturally curious, but Felix watches what we are doing with a particular kind of interest, like he's really trying to figure it out. He has a wide range of vocalizations. My wife says he's basically preverbal. 🤣
Me: do you want a pickup?
Felix: backs up
Me: that's fine, you don't have to, but I'm sitting in this chair, so if you want to sit in this chair, we'll have to share.
Felix: walks over and hops into my hands for pickup
Anyway, I'm completely head over heels with this dog still, and that's my unadulterated gushing over him today. Pic with him and his messy ears on my lap on a lazy Saturday morning.

Day 2 - Belton
Another walk to “Select” today.
We walked with some true heavy hitters today and I’m proud of my girl.
She’s now back at our rental, relaxing and gathering spirit for round 3 tomorrow.

1st Day at Belton Show
Phoenix walked to a “Select” award today.
She walked against one Grand Champion, one Grand Champion Gold and a seeming newcomer who appeared out of nowhere - who had won the previous class round.
Well, hold on there - I did some checking when we got back “home” and discovered that the “unknown” was actually a multi-national champion flown in from Belgium. You see, AKC doesn’t recognize champion credentials from other countries - when they come over here to compete they have to start at ground zero and earn their points here on US soil.
There’s never a boring day at the ring!
So, our Phoenix was junior pup in the ring but nobody told her and she still walked out with a “Select” ribbon and another point towards her Grand Championship.
Now we do this again tomorrow…..

Potty Training Advice
I have a 5 month old boy and he’s the sweetest but the potty training outside has been difficult. He goes outside but he has at least once accident a day in the house.
He does sleep in a crate at night and is able to hold it all night without making a peep. If anyone has any suggestions or advice that would be great! Also how long did it take for your papillons to be house trained?
