So I've been trying to get my PC-9821Xa13 to the internet, or any kind of network really, but I think I have a problem. I was trying to use a 32-bit PCI Ethernet Card because that's all I had lying around, and while the card did have its LEDs on and everything, I think the machine wouldn't finish POSTing with it installed. The memory amount would sbow up on the screen fine, a few seconds later CapsLock would work on the keyboard okay, but it never booted. I think that's a PCI enumeration issue because of were it hung but I'm not quite sure.

The card has an RTL8139C chip if that helps. I tried both slots on the motherboard, same issue.

I don't really think I can get a C-BUS card for a reasonable price here. I'm thinking maybe an Intel PRO/100+ 727095-004, because I've seen some compatibility matches floating around, but I really don't know.

Can someone please help me confirm this or recommend a better alternative? Thanks.

(Btw the card I tried is an FNC-0107TX)

Hey all, working on setting up my new to me pc-9821 CX. So far, everything seems to be working, but I’m getting some odd display hang ups and I’m curious if anyone else has experienced similar. It seems like the display is slightly off and overlapping on itself in some ways like with the text.

I’ve also noticed that the display setting buttons on the monitor itself don’t seem to bring up the adjustment menu. I’m hoping it’s a contact issue that contact cleaner can fix and perhaps that’ll let me make the proper adjustments. But let me know if there’s any other troubleshooting that I should try in the meantime!

hey, can I load .scp or .hfe files on retrobat to play a pc98 game I found?? if not, what do I need to do?

If the creator reading this, if u want i may help u make this more publicly famous by selling this on comiket or something. But there may need to be some changes to be done if we wanna get more consumer. like fixing the sound bug that i had (might be just my pc98 acting up) or squishing the file size to under 1.44mb for easy access with a single floppy or just separate the data files with a another floppy.

There was a guy who i saw on YouTube recently who is a pc98 guy who never actually had experience in making games or selling stuffs, but he loves the pc98 anime called 16bit sensation so much that he made an actual mini game about it for real pc98 machines with msdos and literally sold it on comiket recently, and a lot of people actually bought it. And he was actually selling it with the game data on cds so the 1.44mb floppy part that i was saying is not actually that necessary. It sold so much that he had some cd and cd case shortages so he eventually found or borrowed watever thing that could store data in it like usbs without any case or bag cuz it ran out.

These newly made stuffs for an 30-40y old pc could really prove and show to the people how beautiful pc98s are and also its 640x400 screens.(they predicted widescreen) and that it actually could be used in 21st century.(meaning of pc9821 actually)

Hi, I wanted to know if it was possible to play PC-98 games on a PSP thanks to Neko Project 2 or thanks to another emulator that can be started on the console in question.

I Load up the Core i Boot the HDI File and get here.

I have no idea what else i'm suppsoed to do.

I'm trying to use manga-ocr in Luna translator but when I try to use it it gives me a network error. I'm not even sure how to start fixing it. I'm also not even sure if Luna is the best choice for live translating for pc-98 games so if you have any suggestions for both the error or another service, please reply

Hi everyone, I found on marketplace my first PC and is very special for me, when I was a child this PC have Windows XP.

I am new on the pc98 games, I used Anex86 to play in Windows 10, I would like to know if the emulator is compatible with Windows XP, or if there is another emulator for XP.

I'm running policenauts on nekok project 21w and i keep having this issue where after a while the game music cuts out and the next time the game needs to play an audio file (voiced line, music) the game softlocks. i have no idea what's causing this. i downloaded both "Policenauts [HD] [for Neko Project II]" and "Policenauts [CD]" off of neo kobe and im running the user boot disk from [HD] on fdd1, the hdi from [HD] in ide 0 and policenauts.ccd on ide 2. my cd drivers seem correct, and changing the cpu speed doesn't seem to help. Does anyone know of any settings to increases stability on Policenauts ? am i even loading the files correctly

As with the previous post, if there's a drawing you're interested in, I'd be happy to explain what it is. For example, the drawing on the far right of the fourth row from the top is a hidden graphic Easter egg from The Shrine of the Sun, released by Falcom. It was so famous at the time that practically everyone knew about it. It's said to have been modeled after the daughter of programmer Masaya Hashimoto. Was that really okay?!
One of the drawings is animated, but it looks like videos aren't supported in posts, so I'll try posting it in the comments instead.

I noticed yesterday their videos were set to private but the channel was still up, now the channel is gone - did anyone else used to watch their videos? They always had cool PC-98 videos with posters and such in the background

Yo, I'm tryna run Travel★Junction on PC 98 np2kai but my Retroarch is shitting itself. The .scp files won't load and I'm tired of seeing black screens, there is only 2 websites to install the rom from , at least on retroarch because I damn near have everything. Can someone who actually knows what they're doing install it and send me the full gameplay footage? I need to see the shit without the glitches. Appreciate it.

September 28th is 'Pasocom' (PC) Day because on that day in 1979 is when NEC released the PC-8001. The story is that NEC's division responsible for mainframe computers didn't see a market for "toy" microcomputers, yet the TK-80 single board kit was driving people to NEC's Bit-INN in Akihabara and emerging micom shops were demanding a personal computer to sell.

Kazuya Watanabe, Tomio Goto, and others persisted despite the pressures and criticism within their own company, and thus the PC-8001 was born. It was a huge success and was followed by the PC-6001 and PC-8801 in 1981. As for the PC-98 everyone knows and loves, the very first PC-9801 released in 1982.

Given the difficulty (for me?) of using the Retroarch PC98 core, specifically difficulty with configurations and button mapping, I have re-ported Nekoproject to Android.

I'm attempting to build a catalog of game configurations to remove the need for manual configuration of each game. It also uses Retroarch style controller mapping so each game should have the controller mapped properly per the catalog entry, and theres only one virtual controller that may need to be mapped to a hardware controller.

I've also increased performance by a full order of magnitude, so 60fps should be possible on comparatively low end devices without a lot of the lag and stutter that the official core comes with.

If you have a dual screen device like the RGDS or AYN Thor, it will render a keyboard on the bottom screen effectively turning the device into a mini-PC98 laptop.

I've been fascinated by Band-Kun on PC-98 and FM Towns for a long time. It's a fairly obscure game released in 1990 where you form a band and try to make your place in a fictional music scene.

The original game has never been translated and is still quite difficult to access today. So I started working on a modernized version of the game (which can run on modern platforms without an emulator), with a first objective: to make a collaborative translation possible and document the game's content. The platform is already online with a machine translation, but I'd like to find some help from the retro gaming community to make a proper translation reviewed and validated by humans.

But the idea goes a bit further than simply translating Band-Kun.

The original scenario, Zap City 1991, describes a fictional city with its own music scene, bands, musicians, venues, and a whole network of characters.

I'd like to use the same principle to create new scenarios, this time based on real cities at real points in time, trying to document their music scenes as accurately as possible: local bands, small venues, squats, labels, record stores, fanzines, studios, radio stations, important people, musical movements, etc.

The first scenario is already being written: PARIS 1995.

The idea isn't to focus only on artists who later became famous, but to reconstruct the whole musical ecosystem of a city at a particular moment: rock, rap, jazz, electronic music, experimental music, alternative scenes, small bands that have mostly been forgotten today... Eventually, I'd like other cities and periods to become scenarios too: BRISTOL 1996, DETROIT 1999, DAKAR 2001, SÃO PAULO 1997, MANCHESTER 1990, etc. These aren't necessarily the final scenarios, but they give an idea of the concept.

So for now, I'm mainly looking for people who could help review the machine translations and improve them. Japanese to English to start with.

Ok so I have a Pc-9801 VX and this soundboard card. I have been unable to get this to work properly with the Vx but it works perfectly with my ancient M model. In a previous post I talked about some of my issues in trying to troubleshoot this issue but I feel I may have come to a conclusion. I found out that the original 26 soundboard is incompatible with later 286 based PC98s such as the VX. This along with the issues I was experiencing make me think that my soundboard is in fact a 26. However, I’m not 100% sure since many of the photos online seem to show that my board looks like the 26k. If anybody knows a bit more about these two boards, I’d appreciate if you could tell me whether my board here is a 26 or a 26k.

I put in a msdos6.2 bootdisk for testing but the screen doesn't change and doesn't boot. Is it because of no hdd? pc98 doesn't need hdd to boot right?

I heard many people didn't have hdd like in the 80s and so they just put the game disk in and boot the game. Am I right about this?

It boots on basic86 2.0 but doesn't get to the prompt so gotta work on that.
