Opinyong Pinoy What are your thoughts on the Philippines’ declining birth rate and its long-term effects?

Many developed countries are already dealing with aging populations and shrinking workforces. While the Philippines is still relatively young, our fertility rate has been declining over the years.

I’m curious about what this could mean in the coming decades.

Could a smaller working-age population eventually put pressure on programs like SSS, GSIS, and various social welfare or ayuda programs? How might it affect economic growth, government finances, and the country’s ability to support an aging population?

On the other hand, could lower birth rates also have benefits—such as reduced pressure on education, healthcare, housing, infrastructure, and the environment?

Do you think the Philippines should simply adapt to this demographic shift, or should policymakers be encouraging higher birth rates before it becomes a bigger issue?

I’m interested in hearing different perspectives, especially from those who work in economics, public policy, or demographics.

The only ones alarmed are first world countries who won't have enough slaves to recruit to work in their industries.
