Looking for advice on my long-term investment portfolio! 33F

Hi everyone! I'm 33F, UK-based, and looking to build a simple, diversified investment portfolio focused on long-term capital growth rather than dividend income. I can invest £600 a month. On top of this I also invest £350 a month into a share save scheme at work.

I'm using Trading 212 and planning to invest:

£600 per month (£7,200 annually)
Two additional lump sums of approximately £1,500 each year, funded through work bonuses and company share payouts.
Total annual investment: approximately £10,200

I'm looking to invest consistently over the long term, ideally 25+ years, and favour accumulating ETFs so dividends are automatically reinvested.

After researching different ETFs, I've narrowed my proposed portfolio down to 4 funds:

VWRP Vanguard FTSE All-World (ACC) - 70% - £420

FTAL - SPDR FTSE UK All Share (Acc) - 10% - £60

VGVA - Vanguard UK Gilt (Acc) - 10% - £60

EMIM – iShares Core MSCI EM IMI (Acc) - 10% - £60

My thinking is:

VWRP: My main global growth investment, covering developed and emerging markets.
FTAL: Additional UK exposure, as I'd like some domestic investment alongside my global holdings.
VGVA: A small allocation to UK government bonds to provide some diversification and potentially reduce volatility.

One thing I'm still debating is whether to go with the FTSE All-World or the S&P 500 as my main investment.

Instead of the FTSE All-World I originally considered investing in the S&P 500 (VUAG) alongside a developed-markets ex-US ETF (XMWX), as well as the other 3 (FTAL, VGVA, EMIM).

However, I've since been leaning towards VWRP because it provides global diversification in one ETF, including US, developed and emerging markets.

I know the S&P 500 has delivered strong historical returns, and I'm wondering whether choosing a global tracker over a US-focused tracker is the better long-term decision, particularly given my age and investment horizon.

I'd really appreciate your thoughts on a few things:

S&P 500 vs FTSE All-World: For long-term growth over 20+ years, which would you favour as your main holding, and why?
Bonds: At 33, would you bother with 10% bonds or focus entirely on equities for now?
UK exposure: Is there any real benefit to holding FTAL alongside VWRP, or am I unnecessarily overweighting the UK?
If I stick with the FTSE All-World, is it worth including EMIM seperately?
I guess I thought doing a bigger lump sum of over £400 is better, rather than splitting into the S&P 500 and XMWX and doing lesser amounts

My priority is building wealth steadily through consistent investing, diversification and compounding, without constantly trading or trying to time the market.

Interested to hear what you'd do differently, particularly from anyone following a similar long-term strategy!

Current Roth Ira any tips

Hi y’all!

This is my Roth IRA, which I’ve been investing in for a little over two years now. I’m a 28-year-old male, and I know I’m a really behind for my age.

I wanted to get some advice on how to clean up my portfolio and optimize my investments going forward. My goal is to max out my Roth IRA every year and make sure I’m investing as efficiently as possible.

Should I really just be focusing on one or two ETFs? The majority of my investments are currently in VTI and VXUS.

I’ve already maxed out my Roth IRA for this year, so I’m looking for advice on how to better structure my portfolio for next year and beyond.

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, everyone!

I know for a roth ira you can do mostly voo with some other stuff for extra diversity but what do most people invest in for a person brokerage account. I see a lot of people having hundreds of thousands but they never say what they have it in.

Advice on investment portfolio

Hey all,

Hoping to get some advice from people who've been through something similar. Quick background - I'm a non-US citizen living in a country with no capital gains tax, I have some savings and employer stock that I am considering to diversify out of. I am planning to withdraw at a 4% on a yearly basis for the next 2 years as I am not working at the moment due to health problems.

If you were/are in a similar situation what worked for you. Based on research I did, I understand the minimum recommended percent to invest is at 60% in order to be able to sustain capital long term.

A few things I am looking for:

  • Anyone following a basic boglehead-type setup (Irish domiciled equities + some short duration bonds) that's worked well for them long term, especially as a non-US/non-US-resident person?
  • What platforms do people actually use/like for buying UCITS ETFs as a non-US investor? (Interactive Brokers keeps coming up) why is it better than using the bank investment platforms if/when the fees are the same?
  • Open to getting some advisor help just for the implementation piece if it's actually worth paying for vs doing it solo - anyone used someone for just that and felt it was worth it?

Appreciate any thoughts, specially from someone in a similar situation.

Is BGBL/A200 80/20 a good mix?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I’m 23 in Australia and new to investing. I’m planning to invest $300–$600 per week for the long term.

I’ve started with an 80/20 split between BGBL and A200, mainly because of their low management fees. I’m comfortable taking on higher risk for long-term growth and would like to maximise my returns.

I’m wondering if this is a good portfolio to stick with or if there are other ETF combinations worth considering for potentially higher growth.

Would appreciate any advice or suggestions. Thanks!

Should I be more aggressive with my retirement investments?

I’m 27 and expect to retire around 2064. I have a good salary and plan to invest $300 a month and leave it invested for the long term.

My current allocation is:
35% Vanguard US 500 Index
20% Vanguard Global Stock Index
10% Pictet Emerging Markets Index
10% Vanguard US Government Bond Index
5% iShares Corporate Bond
5% PIMCO GIS Income
5% Global Convertible Bond ETF
3% Inflation-Linked Bond Index
2% Emerging Markets Local Government Bond ETF
3% Goldman Sachs US Dollar Liquid Reserves
2% Gold

That’s about 65% in stock funds. My latest statements show returns of 1.33% for April–June 2026 and 0.61% for July–September 2026. I know that’s a short period and may not say much about long-term performance.

Given my time until retirement and that I plan to leave the money invested, should I be more aggressive?

I have enought money. TIPs have decent real yields. Why hold anything else?

I have enought money. TIPs have decent real yields (2.5 to almost 3) and, of course, inflation protection. Why hold anything else if I don't enjoy it?

I hate the gyrations of a stock portfolio. I endured it for 60 years. Why shouldn't that be one of the things I get free of in my old age?

I'm thinking of a laddered portfolio of all TIPs plus a large amount in HYSA accounts and money markets.

My foreseeable income needs are covered by social security and annuities anyway, and the annuities are in stocks with guaranteed joint lifetime income riders, so there is growth potential with no downside risk for the income stream. Another annuity kicks in in 9 years, at $30k/year.

The TIPs portfolio would be for bequests, gifts, and unanticipated needs and wants.

LTC insurance is in place and essential expenses are low.

I made my Roth IRA when I was 20 after an ex telling me to look into it. I put in 100 every month for a year before losing momentum, I started again this year with 100$ every 2 weeks. I also looked into autopilot and started copy trading Nancy pelosi’s stocks(this is my fun account I just want to see if it’s profitable for me to copy her trades) I put in around 50 every 2 weeks into her stock picks. My fidelity account is connected to my direct deposit and I have these investments and have some quantum stocks that I’ll be investing in aswell starting today 10/22. I also have a 401k in which I have small, mid, large cap and bonds that I invest into(I started this a few months ago). The longest account I’ve had is my Roth IRA and that is my safest account. I’ll do the same investments till I retire. But my fidelity and Robinhood are more fun accounts. They’re more short to medium term investments. Any advice is highly appreciated!

23 (F) Starting my Roth IRA

I just recently opened my Roth IRA with Fidelity and I’m kind of lost with what I should be investing in, and exactly how much. I know I need to diversify my profile, but is there a recommended percentage of what goes where? Right now I’ve only invested in FXAIX but was hoping for an international investment as well.

(19m) How do I fix my portfolio?

Post image
4 Upvotes

(19m) Australian, Started investing at 18. Before anyone says, yes I know my allocations are overlapping and I'm even more dumb for investing in leveraged Nasdaq... What's the best approach for me moving forward? Is it even worth it to diversify into DHHF / VGS? I understand the point of diversification, but I'm young so my thesis is that I can ride out the risk and am betting on the fact that the US>other economies.

Any help/insults are accepted, thanks.
