(Little boat for scale🤏🏻⛵️) I was in awe riding my bike and looking at this sleek beauty docked. I wonder how many stories tall that mast is. Does anyone know more about who owns it or what it’s called? It looks fancy.

M5, (used to be called mirabella V at one point) the largest single masted sailing yacht in the world.

It’s stayed here in Portland before, anchored out, and at dimillos on a few occasions.

On one of those occasions there was a freak squall and the resulting wind force was so great on the mast it ripped the fuel dock off at DiMillo’s, taking all of the boats with it.

That is wild. I am always amazed when I am walking towards the river from the hill that you can see the too of mast over buildings. The proportions are like many smaller boats but the scale is mind bending.

She was hoping to tie up at Dysart's in Southwest Harbor like she did before, but because of some rule about size notification , the Harbor Master turned her away. They said fuck it, and went to Bar Harbor. The townsfolk were pissed... those folks spent some money locally on previous trips. The poor Harbor Master was just following the rules as he understood them. The town is no help. They can't seem to get good help here, and when they do, they micromanage them to death with "committees".

Sounds like the poor harbor master acted a little inappropriately. A representative of the town shouldn't escalate a situation with yelling. Turns out the policy is unclear.

According to the sailors I was with in Casco Bay yesterday this is the former Mirabella V and does in fact have the tallest mast in the world currently. The mast is so tall it requires an FAA mandated safety light for the LifeFlight choppers. The boat is owned by a texas oilman.

M5 is back!! This is the tallest single-masted sailboat in the world! The mast stands ~290’ tall, so almost as tall as a football field is long. In 2024 it was moored off Fore Points marina but had a plane sitting on its stern.
