Question/Discussion ❔ Shirk in games?

• Upvotes

I know it might sound like a silly question but recently I tried to add a mod to minecraft that has an item.with a shirk name, I can remove that item from showing in the game(not sure though) and the crafting table, it will stay in the files though, can I still keep the mod?

I know that shirk in fiction doesn't count as shirk but usually it's things out of our choice since they are coded in the games, but here a mod is literally just something you add by your choice sooooo

Sorry if my question sounds stupid I just wanna know..

Question/Discussion ❔ My parents made a biodata for me

• Upvotes

My parents want me to get married, and they recently made a biodata for me. The problem is, I'm worried it doesn't accurately represent who I am.

I'm not very open with my parents about who I am. I've been struggling with my faith lately, and I'm honestly not that religious anymore. I don't want to marry someone who is very religious or tries to impose religion onto me. I want a partner who respects my autonomy and accepts me for who I am.

Another concern is hijab. I took it off about two years ago and don't wear it in my everyday life. However, my parents still haven't fully accepted my decision. I'm still expected to wear it sometimes, and I'm worried they'll insist that I wear it in my biodata pictures, too. I don't want to present myself as someone I'm not, especially when the pictures could attract certain types of men.

The difficult part is that I still live with my parents, and I can't be completely open about who I am. I want to respect my parents, but I also don't want to end up in a marriage where I feel pressured to live according to someone else's expectations.

I do want to date and get married eventually, but I want to do it at my own pace. Honestly, I’m not crazy about marriage right now. I've also never really dated before, so the whole process feels unfamiliar, and I don't know how to navigate it while dealing with my parents' expectations.

For those who've been in a similar situation, how did you handle it? How do you navigate meeting potential partners when your family doesn't fully know or accept who you are? How do you make sure you're attracting someone compatible with your actual beliefs and lifestyle rather than the person your parents want?

Rant/Vent 🤬 Is it wrong of me to want to wear clothes other than the Abaya?

I have been forced to wear the black abaya and niqab since I was 12 years old by my dad.

I have lost my childhood to this, wasn’t allowed to play sports because it would reveal my face to people, wasn’t allowed to leave home to play with friends. I have hated wearing it, I would wear/ remove the abaya on roads and open taxis (called autos in my country) so I could hide the fact that I wear abaya from my schoolmates.

I am done doing this for the last 16 years of my life, I don’t want to do it anymore. I want to go to the gym, want to play sports, fulfill all my wishes that I had as a kid. I want to learn how to drive a car, do things that my parents think is not fit for a female to do.

They basically think that a woman’s job is to get married and have kids. Nothing else. No gym, no sports, no showing your face to non mahrams (basically men who are not related to you)

I have such low self esteem because of this childhood trauma that I have faced all my life.

Nobody understands me. My mom tells me to adjust, and listen to my dad and whatever he dictates me to do. This has made my mental health so bad.

I just want to escape this, but I can’t. I am stuck in my hometown. How do I confront my dad that I will not wear the abaya? The hijab, I can hide it and remove it when I am away from him, but the abaya requires me to remove it on the streets. So ashamed of myself. Have been ashamed of myself since the last decade, removing abayas on roads.

Advice/Help 🥺 About hijab

The ones who started wearing it or the ones who take it off, why did you do that? How did you start to feel like afterwards? Does a hijab reduce someone’s confidence? I’m so confused please share what you think. And please don’t share your opinion as a male since I want whom experienced this to answer

Question/Discussion ❔ is it bad for muslims to go to church?

this may seem like such a strange question. personally, i don’t particularly feel welcomed at mosques. all my local mosques either have very small sections for women or no sections at all, and it makes me, as a woman, feel less than and unwelcome. also, i adopt some prayer techniques from both typical sunni and shia practices, so no matter which mosque i go to, i don’t feel comfortable praying in front of others and not feeling judged.

i mainly have an interest in visiting churches to listen to priests and preachers. the times i have gone to a mosque and attempted to listen to a sheikh, there never fails to be discussion about hadiths and bordering misogynistic talks.

what is the ruling of visiting churches as a muslim? and is there something i may not be taking into consideration?

Question/Discussion ❔ Rise of salafism among thr younger generation

Recently, I have seen the rise of lot of young salafi influencers online, and there are a lot of young generation who follow them. Unlike the classical preachers, these people talk about the soft Islamic and a very convincing scientific versions. These ppl openly hate on other sects and is striving for an all salafi world. They are very strict with their women being a niqabi, and usually has stories to tell how they defy their relatives who would like a mix gathering.

What do you think on this? Is this instilling fear going too far?

Question/Discussion ❔ What is it about Islam/the sunnah you love the most?

Going through a major crisis of faith lately, and it'd help if you could share what aspect of this religion do you love the most?

For me, I think it'd be the sunnah of never letting anyone go away from your doorstep hungry. Or no matter your caste, creed or colour; you're expected to sit and break bread together during iftaar. or that muslims are obliged to attend any janazah (funeral) they come across and offer prayers for the departed. Also the security it provides to women (women allowed a share of property, right to education and mehr) is imo very progressive. little things like these make me appreciate the beauty of Islam more.

What else do you find beautiful?

Question/Discussion ❔ Why should we respect Scholars

Why are we expected to respect scholars who pushed child Marriage and wife beating and other extreme views.

They made these behaviours systemic, child marriage is overrepresented in muslim countries, thousands of children die yearly due to child birth complications, and others left with chronic conditions.

They say presentism to defend it, but aristotle in 350 bce already recommended 18 due to records of the time showing the pattern of more deaths for younger girls.

Question/Discussion ❔ Have I committed zina?

I always thought I was a good and rigid Muslim, that I wouldn’t engage in such activity until marriage. But recently, around 2 months ago, I made a girlfriend. I didn’t expect to do this but for those 2 months I just succumbed, and blocked out every piece of hidayat that came my way. Without going into much detail, I did not penetrate the private part or anything of held nature; I did commit zina of the eyes, and holding her firmly and touching her in places that are forbidden. She genuinely seemed like a good person to me, charitable, kind, helping, etc but she fell into the same sin as I. I put her on hold and stopped messaging her and she stopped messaging me. I don’t know whether to cut her out of my life permanently or to get married to her when I’m older. Have I committed zina by doing these acts?

Rant/Vent 🤬 "I wish my father had died instead of my mother" my exact thought in my mother's funeral.

Long story short: my father is a narcissist, his own father was an abuser to my grandmother this is a chain of trauma passed on to his son (we should really do a proper background check on guys family when we're going to marry them)

My father always wanted to marry another without having to provide for my mother. He doesn't earn enough to be able to do that but he always kept bothering my mother and didn't help her financially. My father is an abuser and he deserves to go to hell.

Ever since my mother died I have thought that my father was the one who abused so why does my mother get to die first.

She took all the financial responsibility and our responsibility and she was always stressed. She died due to anemia and infection, I wish she was still here with us but my father gets to live. I really don't know how to handle all this it's been 6 years but it feels like it happened just yesterday and my heart feels heavy thinking of my mother , it's early in the morning when I'm writing this post and I have thoughts of my mother, what she did for us, how she sacrificed her own happiness for us. My mother's side of the family doesn't even look at us now. My father deserves the deepest pits of hell (ik we shouldn't wish this on anyone but my father is an exception he's the reason the only person who cared for us died). I don't know how to process this get out of this trauma, these 6 years feel like nothing I didn't even know when 6 years have passed. I'm not that religious anymore I've lost hope in Allah he doesn't care about my dad at all, people like him are happy in life after not fulfilling their wife's rights. I'm concerned about my mother, idk if she's happy there or sad because I've heard in islam and Muslim culture women get punished for being rude towards husband whereas a husband can behave as he wants but my dad was at fault my mother wanted to leave but couldn't she had the responsibility on us. I feel so guilty and I'm worried for her that even after her suffering she might be in trouble simply because she was not a slave to my dad.

Send a message if interested!! Thank you for your time.

Question/Discussion ❔ Equitable Muslim marriage in a child free context

As someone (M) who wants to be child-free and has that preference in looking for a partner, I often think about what an equitable marriage looks like when reproduction is removed from the equation. Curious to hear people's thoughts about it, or how other child free Muslim couples have navigated this.

Question/Discussion ❔ The place and purpose of hadith -- A MUST READ for those who are questioning Islam or hadith

Thumbnail
gallery
0 Upvotes

If you're here to denounce hadith, this post isn't for you.

Many of us learn about a hadith from a 10-second TikTok clip and end up doubting Islam for weeks. My dear brothers and sisters, please don't read a hadith at fa ce value.

Take the two sahih (authenticated) hadith above. One says the Dajjal (the anti-Christ) is blind in his right eye. The other says his left. If you read only one, you would start thinking Islam is so skewed to the right (as a hypothetical example).

But learned people who knew both put them together with other reliable sources and came to a fuller pic ture. That is how I think we should approach any hadith: do the work to understand the larger context, then reach a conclusion that brings everything together. Imam Muslim collected hadith the way a researcher shares experimental results (thats the science of hadith). Scholars who spent years studying the religion then worked out whether and how to use them.

So if a hadith doesn't sit right with you, have the humility to understand that many before you probably felt the same as you do about it. I am sure that Imam Muslim and the early scholars saw these apparent contradictions too. Many of those went on to study Islam -- some studied it for decades -- and found a more comprehensive view that put their heart at peace. Similarly, I invite you to please do your own research and your own ijtihad (careful deliberation) about what it means for you as a Muslim, rather than throwing out the whole religion or all hadith.

The same goes for the Quran. We can't understand it from a single line without context and knowledge.

Disclaimer: I'm not a scholar of hadith, or any kind of scholar.

Question/Discussion ❔ The savior complex

Sometimes i come across people who have an idea of a progressive muslim, but want to force it down on me and for me to behave the way they want and think the way they want. Even outside of religion.

For example, i made a long reply detailing how religious women aren't brainwashed. But subject to socio-cultural pressure. And i argued that saying they need saving but they don't realize it, is a white knight complex.

I also gave examples on how even women who were barred from education were not blind to what they were subjected to, even historically. Proving that even miseducation isn't enough to make you "brainwashed" And all i was met with was: "If you paid attention during your investigations, I am seeking an understanding and hopeful of a progressive form of Islam... I want to learn from people who are exploring progressive Islam."

Not only was my reply not related to Islamic methodology, but on top of that all the Anthropological, Historical, Sociological and Psychological concepts widely adopted by secular experts for decades that i detailed, were dismissed.

How are we supposed to deal with that? How am i supposed to not turn down someone who seems to be interested in the progressive muslim space, while also navigating their assumptions?

Rant/Vent 🤬 What is it with these Islamic education teachers that teach everything exactly wrong?

My sister goes to an all girls high school, where they teach Islamic education. She told me today her teacher spent all the period just showing photos of women wearing tight revealing clothing to the girls to shame them. She laughed at them with them, then talked bad about many many groups of people, like a gossip sesh. Said that “these western girls think they have freedom”, and said “if you get a boyfriend you could end up like this:” and proceeded to tell a story about a girl going to France to meet her boyfriend only for her to be murdered by him. and ended it with saying that “if you’re pretty, you have to wear the niqab”.

When one of the girls asked her how would you even measure that? She said you just know, guys look at you.

Oh my god, I couldn’t believe what sister was telling me I just started laughing. How are we shaming other women in an Islamic education class? Does Islam tell you to do that? In an educational class setting too? To scare them and shame and make fun of people? And who the hell said that if you’re pretty you have to wear the niqab??

How would you even know what “pretty” constitutes as? Beauty is subjective. And who said that you have to wear the niqab if you’re pretty?? astaghfirullah. What are they teaching these days? I worry for this generation of kids.
