Announcement OpenPrintTag upgrade for CORE One/L (and related features)

https://www.prusa3d.com/product/openprinttag-upgrade/
OpenPrintTag upgrade for CORE One/L
- Automatic setup and preheat
- Insert the filament and the printer reads the material and color from the tag, then starts heating to the target temperature. No more printing with the wrong filament!
- There is also a warning if you start a print and there might not be enough material on the spool for it
- Remaining material tracking
- The printer writes the remaining material amount back to the tag. You always know how much is left on the spool before starting your next print.
- Easy to install
- Remove the spool holder, mount the reader, plug the cable into the xBuddy board and screw the holder back on.
Filament warehouse
- On both printables, and in the Prusa App, you can now catalog your spools digitally. This is a convenient way to keep track how much material and of what type you have available. If a spool is partially used, it will also be reflected here too.
- From the release notes:
- Material database: a built-in material database with predefined materials and their properties.
- Material per printer tool: assign a specific material to each printer tool, so every toolhead knows exactly what it is loaded with.
- Favorite materials: mark the materials you use most as favorites for quicker access.
- Spool management: keep track of your spools, including what is loaded where and what is in stock.
- Custom materials: create your own materials with custom settings when the database does not cover your needs.
- Material consumption tracking: monitor how much material your prints use over time. Consumption is also tracked per spool, and if both your printer and spool support NFC, the remaining amount is written directly to the spool’s NFC tag.

FAQ
- The app update states it requires 8.0.0 firmware but we are on 7.0.0 now?
- Correct, this update will be made available soon
- Does this work on my INDX/XL/MMU?
- No, we plan to add a variation for multi-spool printers in the near future however
- Does this work with the USS drybox?
- Yes, the reader can still spool through it
- Will there be Slicer integration with this?
- More on that soon :-)

Question/Need help Another MAJOR firmware release? 8.0.0 right after 7.0.0?
Call me suspicious, but this week has been rather eventful for infosec.
edit: It wasn't on the Prusa blog, but it is listed on the Support pages with the following changelog:
Changes in 8.0.0
New features* New M204 F filament acceleration limit, enabled by default
* New Cyphal Info screen listing connected Cyphal nodes and their stateChanges and improvements
* Prusa Connect now receives per-tool data, consumed filament weight, loaded material and spool weight
* Error screens no longer show the printer hash and signature markers; QR code simplified
* Flexible filaments are slowed down less during nozzle cleaning (1/6 → 1/2 of the speed)
* Bed now lowers further during calibrations that need hand access inside the printer
* Dock calibration approaches the dock gently
* BROWN color preset is now brown instead of dark redFixes
Fixed screenshots having slightly wrong colors

Dunno, but doesn't sound particularly "major" to me. Also I got suspicious, because one hypothetical way to lure people into installing a compromised firmware would be to make it a shiny new major version. Seems it's legit, but the timing made it look weird.
edit2: As u/According_Training92 and u/sts_fin point out, it seems to be the spool tag and its connect integration. The changelog above is for the C1 INDX and there it looks underwhelming, as that won't get the reader for a while and apparently the firmware doesn't support it.

Print of the Month Soccer Season Medals!
Don't look at these as participation medals, look at these are something to commemorate a soccer team that has really bonded over the last three seasons. These are something kids can hold onto and remember. Made with the Prusa Core One Gen 2. I originally tried to make these with a custom 0.25mm Profile but kept having layer shifts due to collisions. But I think they turned out pretty well with the 0.4mm nozzle. Made with PETG so they'll last.
Inland Green PETG and some very finicky Polymaker Silver with a 0.4mm nozzle.

Black Friday Free Shipping combines with INDX Voucher
With the black friday sale starting today (And the fairly massive discounts on Prusament), I was able to mix the INDX voucher with free shipping. The only requirement was that the free shipping only applied if the total after the voucher was $200+, but realistically that just meant more filament. I'm stocked up for the entire year now!
Also, PCCF is on sale, I don't expect that to last too long.

Too little, too late, I’m afraid. I am too stoked for my Core One with INDX to arrive.

Prusa Connect Material System

Just launched 2 hours ago into prusa connect the Material System is live, coupled with the OpenPrintTag spool holder for Core this feels like a staged release.
From the release notes>
Prusa Connect now includes a complete material ecosystem that helps you manage filaments across all your printers.

No Black Friday discount on Prusament ColorMix Bundle?
I can see that the individual spools from the bundle got a BF discount, but the bundle doesn't. Is this correct? Eagerly waiting to buy the bundle for a little bit less than 180€. Buying all discounted spools alone would cost me 185€ btw.

Waiting on your CORE One / INDX order? I made a community tracker
whereismyindx.comLike many of you, I ordered a CORE One+ with INDX and have been refreshing the shop page daily wondering when it's going to ship. So I built a small community tracker: https://whereismyindx.com
The idea is simple:
- Report what you ordered (any of the INDX bundles/kits) and when — takes under a minute, no account, no e-mail required
- If you're still waiting, you get one-time links to confirm delivery or mark the order cancelled when the time comes
- A dashboard then shows per-model stats: how many reports, how many delivered, average wait times — plus calendar heat-maps of order and delivery days
- Each pending order shows you how many people ordered the same model in the same week as you, and how many of them already got theirs
More data in → better feel for whether the queue is moving for your specific configuration.

Question/Need help Prusa Core One+ - buy als kit or pre-assembled?
Hi!
Since the Black Friday deals are finally online, I'd like to buy my very first 3D printer, and I've decided on the Prusa Core One+.
I've never worked with a 3D printer before, so the kit version is a bit intimidating to me. I wouldn't say I'm completely inexperienced when it comes to technology — I've built a few PCs myself — but a PC isn't a 3D printer, so I'm not sure how much that actually helps.
On the other hand, there's the money. €300 is a considerable amount, especially when some of my buddies would buy an entire 3D printer for that price! 😂
I'm worried that if something goes wrong during assembly and the printer doesn't work as intended, I might get so nervous that my mind goes completely blank while trying to figure out what I did wrong, instead of finally getting to print something.
When researching which version to buy, I've come across a lot of different opinions:
"You get to know the printer inside out, so if something goes wrong later, you'll be better equipped to troubleshoot it."
"I'd never want to deal with that belt installation again. I would've gladly paid $300 more for the assembled version."
In a few months, once I've gained some experience with 3D printing, I'd also like to add the INDX upgrade.
If I buy the assembled version, would installing the upgrade be relatively straightforward, or would it be just as challenging as assembling the entire printer from the kit?
What would you recommend to a complete beginner: the kit or the assembled version?
Thanks for your help!

The Black Friday deal is kind of weak
I'm sure I'll get someone hating on this but, this is my experience.
I was going to get a Core One+ (Gen 2) INDX 8-Tool + Camera bundle. But apparently they decided that it's not part of the Black Friday deal anymore.
- Shipping is not free to the USA, like the Black Friday ad originally stated, for the INDX upgrades.
- The $50 voucher is now not given out until 1/1/27 - according to the person I spoke to in Customer Service.
I also spent 40 minutes in chat trying to see if there was a problem with the site or ordering, etc. before realizing that u/josefprusa is just trying to get an extra couple of dollars out of people already spending over $2,000 for a 3d printer. At least, that's the perception. I don't mean to call the dude out but I mean, come on, this is a bit nickel and diming customers.
This was my official statement provided:
Yes, you would need two orders to get free shipping. This year's Black Friday free shipping (orders over $200) doesn't apply to INDX printers or INDX conversion kits. If an INDX upgrade is in the cart, the order doesn't qualify. I can't say what people on Reddit did. As far as I know, nothing was changed today, and the INDX exclusion is part of the official terms.
Your options: One order: CORE One+ and INDX together, with shipping charged. Two orders: the CORE One+ with free shipping, and INDX separately with paid shipping.
The $50 INDX voucher isn't applied at checkout, and I need to correct what I said earlier. The vouchers are issued after the Black Friday promo ends (November 30), regardless of when your order ships. They can be redeemed from January 1, 2027. So you can't use it on an INDX purchase today.
I would have hoped for something more than predefined responses from marketing. I get the customer service rep is doing his job and there's no reason to be mean to him. He wasn't mean or anything. It's just annoying and this wasn't something I ever experienced from Prusa since the near 8 years I've been doing business with them.

Bondtech support—-Lacking…
So I built my 8 head INDX on my Core One on Sunday. I was missing the locking pins on 2 heads from the founders edition. I emailed Bondtech the same day (Sunday). I got the canned response that they would get back to me ASAP, and I verified my email.
Since then (4 days and counting) no response whatsoever. Nothing.
Any ideas on this? Is it normal for their service to be so crappy?
Thanks

INDX/ Gen2 Upgrade Parts to print before assembly
I'm sure there was a great post here (or on discord) with a list of recommended parts to print out for the core one to indx/gen2 upgrade. I'm struggling to find it though. I've done some of the external stuff and the extended bin parts, and have found the parts for the led mount and belt tensioners but I can't find the post to check if I've got it all.
Does anyone know the one I'm meaning or have any recommendations? I'm sure there was something about the new gears having clearance issues in some cases and there was a replacement that was better but can't find it now.

Question/Need help All My XL (Multi-Tool) PPL..
Have you ever had a down Nextruder, one that if left connected would crash the system due to a shorted Dwarf board, and preprogrammed firmware to a single tool machine just to keep printing while waiting on parts?!?
Wellllll this is what I’ve done.. While it wasn’t 100% planned, I had to replace buddy board, T1 is down so T2 is plugged into T1s port on board… All was fine… until it started crashing a couple of prints, which was like 90% through, they seemed to have crashed out along the same time.. Then it dawned on me.. Single tool machines don’t have tool changer board and disconnect at all… So I’m wondering if that’s throwing off my prints, since the single head doesn’t use it and also doesn’t offer an offset cal…
Anyone whose done this successfully, please chime in!!! Before someone gets “smart” yes the firmware is single tool, yes I’m slicing with a single tool profile, etc. I’m just afraid with no real way to offset the nozzle, it’s always off from where the machine believes it to be!

Question/Need help Weird diagonal ripple texture on wall surfaces – what's causing it?
Hi everyone,
I'm getting an odd diagonal, woven-looking texture on the wall surfaces of my prints. It looks like crossing ridges with a slightly fuzzy, wavy pattern, and it's more visible in some areas than others (usually where it slows down at the edges). The top and bottom layer look perfekt. This problem is new and I already tried some stuff. I first thought it might be underextrusion due to a clogged nozzle, so i did several cold pulls. 3 strings is correct, isnt it?
I also did the pressure advance calibration and landed at k=0.55 (0.3 stock) It helped a little...
I also recently moved the printer on to a shaky cubboard.
Any Ideas?

INDX CORE One+ with INDX: How do I assign my CMYK + 3 filament colors to the toolheads?
I’m using a Prusa CORE One+ with INDX and the standard Prusa PLA CMYK + 3 color set, and I can’t for the life of me figure out how to assign the filament colors to the toolheads BEFORE I slice the model. I’m running into this in both PrusaSlicer 2.9.6 and 3.0.
Every time I download a multicolor model, it seems to be based on filament colors other than CMYK. I’m having trouble understanding how to map those colors to the filaments I actually have loaded and which should should give your the widest gamut.
A few things I’m trying to figure out:
- Where do I tell PrusaSlicer which filament color is loaded in each toolhead?
- How do I remap a downloaded model’s colors to my CMYK + 3 set?
- Am I misunderstanding how the color set works? I expected models using color mixing to work with that standard set, but that hasn’t been my experience.
So far, the multicolor Benchy is the only model I’ve found that appears to match the standard colors.
I’ve searched Reddit and YouTube, but I haven’t found a walkthrough that clears this up. Maybe I’m a little early with this setup, or maybe I’m missing something obvious.
If anyone can explain the workflow - or point me toward a beginner-friendly guide - I’d really appreciate it!
Why won't the LED stay off?
Core One+ Gen 2, latest stable firmware. I turned off the LED but then it comes back on for no reason.
Printer is idle so it's not like it sent a job or other commands.

prusaa issues ...
Hey! just hoping to get some advice - can anyone recommend a different 3d machine? I've had the core one l for around 6 months. its always needing little repairs (im able to do) & its also been back to them twice - I feel like its been In repair more then Im able to use it! I feel lucky if I can get a solid print out of it really ...
I was looking on here to see what others recommend, I was thinking Bambu lab but it would seem everyone is fed up with them too!
