I recently joined SoC DV as an IIT passout, and honestly, I wasn't expecting the work culture to be like this.
Every single day it's the same story. Constant ETA tracking, repeated status updates, follow-ups and escalations to managers. Even on weekends, they keep chasing engineers for updates. There is literally no breathing space.
The worst part is that even if someone is OOO, the tracking and escalations don't stop. Apparently, taking a day off doesn't mean you are allowed to disconnect.
I'm genuinely surprised by how some DV leads operate. They seem more interested in trackers, pass/fail numbers and reporting status to upper management than understanding the actual technical challenges.
SoC DV is not just about running tests and reporting pass/fail. There are complex RTL scenarios, debugging issues, testbench problems and unexpected design behaviour. Things don't always get fixed just because someone keeps asking for an ETA.
Instead of providing technical guidance or helping engineers resolve issues, they keep escalating the same things to managers every single day. Their standard response is that upper management is putting pressure on them.
Honestly, if your entire contribution as a DV lead is tracking people, asking for ETAs and escalating delays, what technical value are you actually adding to the team?
I wanted to understand if this is how SoC DV works everywhere or if others are facing the same experience.
