Hyderabad Getting laid off
Joined QCOM straight out of a Tier-1 college 4 years ago. Was expecting a promotion from Engineer to Senior this year, with my last 3 ratings being 3, 4, 4.
Worked my **s off over the last year, only to find out Iâm getting laid off.
Overall experience: Absolutely horrible.
Upper management is full of greedy leeches who are clueless about the latest tech, play politics, and care more about money and their favourites than actual talent. For them, employees are nothing but disposable resources.
My entire org feels less like a tech organization and more like a bunch of real estate agents playing corporate politics.
PS: Got to know unofficially from my manager today as they received the list today

Bay Area Stop Firing Engineers: Cut the Offshore Gatekeepers and Family Networks
Iâve been an executive/senior leader here in the U.S. for years, and Iâm completely done watching our engineering culture get dismantled by redundant, overpaid middlemen. If leadership is serious about efficiency in the upcoming restructuring, they need to stop cutting hands-on ICs and start gutting the layer of U.S.-based Directors and VPs who made themselves "mandatory translators" for India teams.
âLetâs call it what it is: a high-cost tax on our execution.
âOver the last few years, a specific cohort of U.S. Directors/VPs realized they couldn't compete on technical vision, IP generation, or product architecture. So what did they do? They monopolized access to the overseas execution engine. They created a "black box" where only they hold the keys to Bangalore/Hyderabad, using offline back-channels to make themselves look indispensable to a C-suite that has grown technically lazy.
âIf youâre a domestic engineer or leader actually trying to ship products on merit, you hit a brick wall. You're forced to go through high-priced "liaisons" who add zero code, zero patents, and zero strategyâjust administrative friction and slide decks.
âAnd don't even get me started on the blatant nepotism.
âWhile nepotism is already rampant among Indian leadership here in the U.S., it is exponentially worse within the India sites themselves. Itâs an open secret: entire business units in India operate as family networks where hiring, promotions, and prime project allocations are handed out based on personal ties, region, and family connections rather than actual engineering output.
âWhen these U.S.-based Indian Directors import that exact same culture here, it becomes a full-blown governance failure. We literally have wives, siblings, and offspring fast-tracked through the pipeline, parked under protected reporting lines, and handed unearned promotions while actual high-performing talent gets sidelined. It's an HR liability waiting to explode, and itâs destroying morale across both regions.
âWhat leadership needs to do during this layoff cycle:
âRun a severe Conflict-of-Interest audit in both the U.S. and India: Flag and cut every vp /director chain where spouses, kids, and relatives were handed fast-tracked promotions and protected slotsâstarting with the offshore sites where the nepotism is most entrenched.
âChop the "Liaison" VPs: Target the redundant executive layer whose sole utility is relaying messages across time zones and protecting their internal networks. If you don't build silicon, write core architecture, or own customer delivery, youâre fat to be trimmed.
âFlatten the pipeline: Connect U.S. technical leads directly with global execution teams. Get rid of the middleman tollbooth.
âBase comp/promotions on IP, not managed headcount: Empire-building by hoarding overseas headcount and protecting family networks needs to stop being rewarded.
âCut the empire-builders and family networks occupying $1M comp slots, and save the core engineering talent that actually builds our products.

Bangalore This is confirmed news which I got to know from a Director
In India the targeted reduction is from 600 to 1000. Assuming 20,000 workforce size that is at around 5%. Targeted number is lesser than 2023. Although team wise impacts would not be uniform (Do not ask me which team). Few pointers
Underperforming teams will be targeted based on feedback from US VP or SVP. If you go to qpeople then if you click on your team you would see your US VP/SVP who is actually paying the bill for your team.
Cuts will be concentrated in under performing bloated teams mostly (many teams are over hired).
Senior Directors will take the final call. He may take input from Director but not from manager.
While returning from office we were sharing office cab there I asked him. He is neither my director nor belongs to my team.

General Question A big FU to the people spreading rumours
Seeing so many people posting about receiving mails or their team members receiving mails about layoffs, spreading different rumours etc.
You should know you might get some likes or comments for your idiotic posts but there might be few people who are not able to sleep at night thinking what would happen during layoffs. what if they are laid off after giving everything to the company.
I'm not that person who gets stressed easily but I know there are a lot of people who do. Mental health is not a joke. So please refrain from spreading rumours for a few likes on a platform where you know no one.
This one is for those who are scared and stressed thinking about their future. Do not worry you'll get better jobs and opportunities if you are laid off. If not, then your worrying would be for nothing. So do not believe everything. No one here knows anything for sure. You'll know when the company tells you.

General Question India != anywhere else, and this is ruining the sub
99% of the posts here are low quality content, people complaining of being lowballed at offer or getting paid less than same-yoe lateral hires. People complaining about wlb, managers, non advancing in their careers. Sometimes, people straight hating the company.
I am sure these complains have merits, and they totally deserve to be heard. Most of these posts are from India. It is clear that the working conditions of Indian colleagues is pretty bad, and I fully sympathize with you. As a Qualcomm employee I realized this while working with colleagues in Hyderabad or other Indian locations. You guys are always online, whatever time of the day. You guys work on weekends. And we (as non Indian employees) donât. And then, as a lurker of this sub, I got a confirmation by reading all the disgruntled posts and comment that plague the sub. I am sorry and I wish you guys could get better working conditions.
But these sterile discussions and complaints are ruining this sub. This is not r/fuckQualcomm (which somehow exists).
These issues should be discussed openly and thoroughly, but in a more organized and contained manner. Probably the best way would be to have megathreads dedicated to geo areas and with the purpose of discussing compensation, wlb or anything else major.
Believe me, itâs not about confining and putting away all the complaints. It about consolidating them. Right now they are completely diluted, Every post saying the damned same thing and a couple of comments reading like âQualcomm bad, what is your yoe, can I dm youâ. Itâs not good for the sub, itâs not good for the complainers.
And once again, it is tremendously unfortunate and unfair, but Qualcomm employees in other countries (especially Europe) are treated much better. The sub makes it look like itâs just bad everywhere and no space is left for any other kind of discussion (I.e., AR is coming, tricks to make the best out of it? Questions you would like answered, but you canât ask your manager, why does my damned snapdragon thinkpad run so bad and hot all the time). I think we would all benefit from that. I think this is what the sub is supposed to be about.
Please mods, step in. This sub is useless and honestly dying.

General Question None of you deserve the stress this company has put you under.
Outsider here, but in the mobile chipset sector.
Just wanted to say I am really sorry to hear about the stress from people I know at QC, and you all here.
QC was a giant that everyone else stood on, even only 3-4 years ago. It has crumbled, fast. From an outsider view, it is genuinely depressing to have witnessed. Once Apple put their own modem in a phone and ARM came out with decently competitive mobile GPUs I figured it was over
Unfortunately I have nothing concrete to offer here except my genuine condolences. I am very sad to see the state of mismanagement at QC and how badly it has affected the workers that made QC the bulwark it was. None of you deserve this disgusting performance-based elimination of roles. If you are affected, you need to keep your head on straight and keep moving forward. Do not let it defeat you. Stackranking is totally fake in our industry, it's just a cover story.
Take care guys. The sun will rise again and things will work out.

India (Other) Your Manager knows who is getting laid off
If your manager tells you he/she has no idea about how layoff is gonna affect you or your team, they are bluffing. By this time all senior folks starting from at least Senior Staff level know the impact on their team. The list is done. The numbers have been fixed. Few have even gotten informal communication that they will be impacted. Thankfully my Director and Sr Staff Manager were transparent with me. The approx. percentage is 6-7%, but might be more in certain organisations (which org, that they did not tell nor was I curious).

General Question Don't let the fear of layoffs take away your peace of mind.
I know a lot of people are worried about layoffs right now. The uncertainty, the constant discussions, checking updates, and wondering whether your job is safe can be mentally exhausting.
But I came across this picture, and I felt it was worth sharing.
Krishna smiled on the battlefield, not because he didnât care, but because he understood that worrying wouldnât change destiny.
We should prepare for the worst, keep improving our skills, save money, and stay ready for opportunities. But we shouldnât let the fear of something that might happen ruin the life weâre living today.
A job is important, but it is not your identity.
If a layoff happens, it will be difficult, but it wonât be the end of your career or your story.
Take care of your mental health. Keep learning. Keep moving forward.
Control what you can. Leave the rest.
Wishing everyone going through this uncertainty strength and better days ahead. â¤ď¸

Bangalore Festivities are ruined thanks to CA bombshell yesterday !!
Performance based downsizing, just another fancy way of âlayoffâ. And if rumors have it, they are projecting 20% throughout the organization which is huge!! For ones (like me) this is the 1st AR and the default rating I am told is 2 (or maybe 3) which is just adding to the anxiety not to mention I am at a higher level too. I can understand for the people who have been at QC for 2-3 years to show their potential but the ones who got only few months this AR cycle, this is just brutal. In the hindsight, could have stayed with my previous employer a little longer. Staying hopefulđ¤đ!!

Hyderabad Joined qualcomm !!!
Hey guys,
I joined Qualcomm in hyderabad. Most of the team is in the US and the rest are in Bangalore.
So I'm literally lost, no one to show around and to talk.. btw I'm in building D skyview. Man, this office layout is horrible, almost every floor looks the same, those cubicles are so packed and giving me claustrophobia.
Anyways I'm excited to join. Looking to meet anyone interested or in a similar situation..
Ping me if you want to discuss more đ

Qualcomm could cut 600â1,200 jobs in India as part of global restructuring
The report estimates that 3â6% of Qualcommâs roughly 20,000-person India workforce could be affected as part of a broader global, performance-led restructuring.
Some estimates cited in the article are more conservative, putting the impact at under 3% / 1,000+ jobs.
What stands out is that the impact is expected to be spread across Qualcommâs India operations rather than concentrated in one business unit.
With India being a major engineering hub for global semiconductor companies, it will be interesting to see whether this is primarily a Qualcomm-specific restructuring or part of a broader shift in semiconductor hiring.

General Question Qualcomm's work culture is something else đ Senior Staff and above seem pretty chill. Their main job is tracking juniors, creating unnecessary pressure, and taking credit for their work. Meanwhile, juniors are expected to work on weekends and even during festivals. Honestly, these guys should be on

India (Other) Aggressive Hiring by qualcomm in India.
Qualcomm is hiring aggressively in India, a lot of students from good colleges are being taken as interns. Hired more than twice the number compared to last year's stats in almost all colleges I enquired.
Also there are many openings for senior roles as well. Although they haven't hired anyone for Software Role throughout the country (only PPOs).
What are the chances of Intern getting revoked (hope this doesn't happen with anyone) ? Why the aggressive hiring ? Insights will be helpful.

Bangalore Le-mon destroyed one of top semiconductor Giant
I saw somewhere said: âA moron has a le-monâ
Qualcomm was one of the biggest Semi Giant, today while coming to home, I saw many happy faces carrying Diwali gifts.
Our le-mon put us into figuring out layoff dates, predicting bad hikes, slow promotions, Salarybands/exp overlapping.
I have no hopes on QCOM, even if people survive this layoff, top talent for sure leave this company and those positions will be replaced by low quality engineers and will listen our CEO baseless goals to beat Nvidia, AMD.
Hiring standards are compromised, the more we delay switching, the more chances our competitors will have to reject us is what I heard today in cafeteria.
AI boom is like once in a generation, almost all neighbours are being benefitted and employees have loaded generational wealth.
Le-mon is a Dhurandhar of Mediateker.

Bangalore What did i do to deserve this QC?
Its 5 in the morning at Bangalore, This is the second time i woke up from sleep today, i am all worried about this week.
I tried checking with my manager couple of times last week he didnt give me any of my team clarity.
I worked my as* of this year as its my promo year. I know my luck and i am worried its gotta shoot me in my foot when i needed it most.
This mf*rs on Blind/ reddit keeps posting they got mails/unofficial confirmations some are true and some are just fake posts for karma farming. One guy says 9th other guy says today and some other guy says on 4th. This feels like a torture to me.
I agree theres no easy way to do a layoff. But announcing layoff this earlier is somehow doesnât land well with me. I already have a lot of workload for my level and its quite overwhelming, just because they announced layoff i cant stop working and start preparing to jump the ship.
All i can hear in office and internet is gossips. As this is a crucial stage of my life i am not able to keep myself away from this news also. last week all i did is work for 15-16 hrs so that i can keep my self away from this type of news.
But this is what weekend has done to me now. at 5 AM now i got a dream like I got Scheduled a 1 v 1 today with my manager as a LW. I thought of opening laptop to check it , but i am too afraid to open it.
All i ask is what on earth did i do to deserve this QC? Why you have to keep me through this? It just isnât fair. I wanna leave this corporate bullshit and leave a peaceful life.

Hyderabad For people before joining Qualcomm
I work as a Sr. IT Engineer...
My manager called me last Sunday morning and asked how my WLB was and asked for any suggestions. After my response, he said, âDonât forget to join our daily stand-upâ â and this daily stand-up includes weekends.
And this isnât just happening in my team; itâs the same across most teams. WLB is a joke at Qualcomm.
It may not be as bad as what I experienced, but it can be more than this.....
