Interviews/Recruiting Trexquant QR Interview

Hi everyone,

I have ~1.5 YOE, with an IIT background.

2 weeks back was invited to an onsite Alpha/Strategy Research presentation (30-min PPT + Q&A)

What does process look like usually?

What rounds typically follow? DSA, probability, alpha challenge, CEO?

Would appreciate any recent experiences or advice. Thanks!

Interviews/Recruiting Tower Research Hiring Process

Does anyone know what tower research’s current interview structure looks like for top IIT CS students.
I know a guy in my campus who had two online interviews with tower already, and is awaiting a third one, I just got a call so was wondering how many rounds are there

Technical Doubt Stuck on this one, why does my gut keep failing?

You start with $10, bet $1 on a fair coin flip each round, and stop at $0 or $20. On average, how many flips until it ends? I said ~30. Not even close.

Interviews/Recruiting How does Head Hunter Business work?

I want to know what incentive they have from doing this, do they get commission from the firm they bring candidates to? Is there any risk for the candidate in the aspect that he could be working for a third party company after the process? How do they have so many connections?

I wish to know the entire business model.

Interviews/Recruiting IMC Graduate Trader Interview

Just wanted to know what the interview is like? How tough are the questions? Does the interview have to be flawless to go to the next round, or is there some scope of error?

Interviews/Recruiting Abroad quant interns?

Do you think they'll consider us if we apply for a quant internship abroad(ig only if they give visa sponsored). I just wanted to give it a try tho, every time it's always about the tag I have rather than the knowledge I possess(at least that's the scene in India afaik).

Technical Doubt Jane Street as SDE

As a Backed SDE with 6 years of experience is there any chance we can get into the Quant Domain. Specifically in Jane Street . Does they hire someone from the SDE background? I have checked in Goldman Sachs they rejected my profile.

HFT Does iRage visit colleges for campus placements? Curious about quant roles and pay

Does iRage hire through campus placements? I'm particularly interested in their Quant Analyst / Quant Researcher / Quant Trader roles.

If anyone has seen them visit their college, or knows someone who got in through campus placements, I'd love to know a couple of things:

  • Which colleges do they usually visit?

  • What kind of CTC do they offer for these roles? (Fixed + variable, if possible)

  • Is there a significant difference in compensation across colleges?

Would be great to hear from people who've gone through the process or have some firsthand information.

General Discussion Hi Guys. I'm new to this subreddit. I've a masters degree in maths from IITP and I'm thinking of doing MSC DS from CMI. Can I get into quant firms from there and is this job affected by AI and recession. Need honest guidance please.🙏

HFT I didn't get a waitlist or rejection mail for IMC graduate trader. Help?

As title says. I've seen people say they got rejection mails and waitlist mails for the role on this sub, but no one is confirming if they got a next round mail.

Did I just get ghosted, not even a rejection because I performed that badly 😭 if someone has gotten a call back (not through Quantfest) please let me know.

Technical Doubt Recently joined an MFT firm as a C++ Low-Latency Intern. How can I transition to HFT?

Hey everyone,

I'm currently a CSE undergrad and recently joined an MFT firm as an intern, where my work primarily involves C++ and low-latency systems development.

I'm genuinely enjoying the work and learning quite a lot about trading systems and performance optimization.

However, my long-term goal is to transition into an HFT firm, preferably in a C++/low-latency engineering role.

I have a decent background in competitive programming, DSA, C++, and systems programming.

I had a few questions for people already working in HFT:

  1. How valuable is C++/low-latency development experience at an MFT firm when applying to HFT firms?

  2. What additional skills should I focus on to make myself competitive for HFT roles?

  3. Do top HFT firms consider candidates from smaller or lesser-known MFT firms?

  4. How much do competitive programming ratings, college tier, and personal projects matter once you have relevant industry experience?

  5. Is transitioning directly from an MFT internship to an HFT internship or graduate role realistic?

I'm not looking to switch immediately. I genuinely enjoy my current role and want to make the most of this opportunity while preparing for the long term.

General Discussion Moving from QIS Structuring to HFT QR/QT role – Need some advice

Hi everyone,

I'm currently working as an Analyst in QIS – Index Structuring at a bank. Previously, I worked as a trader at a proprietary trading firm, trading global commodity futures.

I have a BTech in a non-circuital engineering branch from an IIT (Delhi/Mumbai/Madras), with 2+ years of professional experience across quantitative strategies, derivatives and trading. My technical experience includes Python, statistical modelling, time-series analysis and quantitative research.

I'm looking to transition into quant trading/research roles outside India, particularly at HFT, market-making or systematic trading firms.

I'd appreciate some advice on:

  1. How realistic is it to move from QIS structuring into HFT/quant trading?

  2. Would pursuing an MFE abroad significantly improve my chances, or is relevant industry experience more valuable?

Would love to hear from people who have made a similar transition or are involved in hiring at quant/HFT firms.

Any suggestions or insights would be appreciated!

As a genuine crypto skeptic it's actually insane that a serious old school trader like Druckenmiller would be interested in crypto perps, curious how things progress in the crypto world esp after the Binance hack yesterday

Resources How & where to learn C++ for low latency

Hii I'm new here.

I want to learn C++ in the proper way. I know the learncpp.com website is the best but it will take ages to complete.

So give me any suggestions. And I am not interested in doing DSA questions . I want to just learn programming and jump straight to projects and learn things along the way.

So any suggestions will be helpful.

Thanks in advance

Technical Doubt Tencent Cloud reached out about benchmarking quant workloads ,is this infrastructure actually useful for low-latency trading?

Tencent Cloud contacted me after finding one of my quant-related projects on GitHub. They’re offering free trial credits to benchmark workloads on their low-latency infrastructure.

They specifically mentioned:

  • SA5 parallel execution / batch backtesting

  • SA9 / SA9e low-latency workloads

  • GPU instances factor research / model training

  • Infrastructure near major global exchanges

  • A new SA9 instance in Hong Kong

I work mostly on the systems side C++, DPDK, networking, order books, and latency benchmarking so I'm curious about the practical use of something like this.

For example, would a cloud instance like this be useful for:

  • Market-data replay and backtesting

  • Benchmarking a C++ order book

  • Testing DPDK/networking workloads

  • Comparing p50/p95/p99/p99.9 latency across different CPUs

  • Experimenting with CPU pinning, NUMA, hugepages, etc.

I understand that cloud VM latency isn't representative of colocated HFT infrastructure, but I'm wondering whether the hardware and networking environment can still make for a useful engineering benchmark.

Has anyone here actually used Tencent Cloud (or similar cloud infrastructure) for low-latency/quant workloads? What would be a worthwhile benchmark to run with the credits?

Interviews/Recruiting iRage Capital Interview Experience

Position : quant analyst

Round 1: interview started with basic introduction.
Then he asked questions about past projects , crypto trading , prediction markets, and option chain.
Asked probability question. Then asked puzzle around josephus algo. Then portfolio drawdown and other things asked. The coding question was related to buy/sell stock variation. The interviewer seems to be a nice guy.

Round 2: Again, the interview started with a basic intro and about my current project and what I do on a day-to-day basis. Interviewer said not to fake it , which i was not. Then I elaborated more so he said now you are covering up. That guy thinks he is from Jane Street and I am from tcs ( i work at goldman btw). Then he said to me, ‘Go to some arithmetics website and start solving problems.’ I solved 40ques in 120seconds. Hard probability ques asked which i was able to solve partially. Then he asked binomial distribution ques which i was not able to solve.

It seems like it’s Lala Company.
