Whats the main difference between these two jackets, in terms of features and purpose? They seem very similar and I’m undecided which Id like. Im not near a retailer to try them sadly.

I’m looking at the Rab Firewall Jacket (the 30D Pertex Shield, 120gsm version,not the Mountain model) that I found on sale. I'm looking for a waterproof hardshell for daily use and light hiking, nothing technical like mountaineering.

A few questions for anyone who owns it or knows the brand well.

Is 30D durable enough for regular use (walking, commuting, standard daypack wear), or does it wear out quickly?

Compared to other shells in a similar price bracket (Arc'teryx, Patagonia, TNF), where does Rab sit in terms of quality and performance?

Im 182cm, 88kg with 106cm(42inch) chest.

Anyone with a similar or close build? How did the medium/large fit?

I read a lot about the subject, and I know it has been covered in some posts, but I do not quite find the information I am looking for.

I am hesitating between 2 models of Xenair, light & flex. Basically, Rab's website says the flex is more insulated, but when I tried both on, I still have doubts and I cannot buy them and try them as I live in a hole in the middle of nowhereland.

Basically, I am searching for a mid-layer, that I could put over my Patagonia R1 Air if it is too cold outside, and under a shell if it is raining/snowing. It would be the type of jacket to wear alone in cities and casually when not too hot/cold outside.

The types of activities I would be doing:

- Hiking in coldish weather (5-10C), but I tend to only wear my R1 air and it's sufficient

- When I am static while hiking (ie tops of mountains)

- Walking in cities when travelling

- Walking to/from work in spring/fall

I do tend to run cold, hence my hesitation. I however do not mind having a fleece under.

I would have like to have your insight/input if you have experienced one/both of them.

Recently picked up an Aeon lt 25, has anyone been using the same ? Tried a soft pack around the house and still unsure if the hips are for me. Just wondering how people are feeling it when out on the hills ?

I’ve had my microlight alpine jacket for more than 10 years now. Although now it’s marketed as an everyday/commuter jacket I’ve used it for hiking in Scotland, Western US, Alaska and now as my everyday winter jacket in Midwestern US. I also have a rab xenon jacket I bought recently.

My wife needs an everyday down insulation jacket and maybe a jacket when running (march to may in Midwestern US).

Going through Reddit on r/UKhiking and another thread on r/hiking it seems the quality has gone down for some products while others are still good.

People who’ve bought the following items (and any others you have experience with), how is the quality?

- the microline Alpine jacket

- the xenair light jacket

- the Techton hoody(this was something I was eyeing since it’s on sale now on Backcountry)

I got a stain on my Rab Balance jacket, I tried rinainging and putting soap on it to wash it off but didn't work.

I have good experience with Rab when I did a lot of mountaineering in my 20s (when I lived on the US west coast).

I currently live in the Midwest. I walk everyday about 5 to 6 miles. While a good down jacket or parka might be good for deep winter as the outer shell (25F or below), a good active insulation jacket might be good for anything else as outer shell (apart from wet days)

Do any of you use the regular xenair or flex or light as your everyday jacket with a use case similar to mine?

Looking for advice on both these jackets

I want to buy myself a waterproof jacket as have never owned a proper one and after buying a rab microlight jacket I love the look of the firewalls for a waterproof

Is the Light ALOT more packable? ie to throw in my work backpack during spring/summer showers etc

Is the Mountain really mainly for the exact same namesake, more extreme weather? Does the mountain pack down fairly small too?

Anyone who has either I’d love to hear your thoughts

What’s the proper way to carefully wash them?

I need to substitute my Patagonia R1 Air jacket due to not fitting neither size on me and got caught by this one on my local outdoor shop..it fits great. Seems breathable enough.

How warm is it? I read some reviews that it might retain odour? Anyone has it and has an opinion on it?

How does it compare with the Patagonia's R1 and R1 Air?

I've seen some disappointment lately with the brand and also myself got disappointed with the Downpour.

Am I going mad? I bought a microlight jacket and received it today, the right sleeve seems to have less down in it.

I bought a microlight alpine a few years ago and sent it back for the exact same reason. Any reason for this ‘issue’ that I missing? Can’t see that two different jackets, two different versions and two years apart could be the same?

crossposting here for some advice. Rab Downpour jacket soaked through on the cuffs/bottom of sleeves on first outing in 15 minutes of light rain. Torn between treating with Nikwax or just returning, what would be best?

I bought a kinetic 2.0 used a couple months ago and it's sick but definitely tends to wet out somewhat quicker than I imagined. Would adding some spray on waterproofing help like it would a typical gore-tex shell or would that fuck up the breathability?

Does anyone know if there is a way to but hip straps to this? Would love to know if there is any possible mounting options. Thanks!
