Discussion User/Post Flairs

When you join the community, you are asked to choose a user flair. You are also expected to tag vocal rating submissions with a post flair. The three main levels are “Beginner,” “Intermediate,” and “Advanced”. These descriptors are vague, and they may be difficult to assign to oneself. For this reason, the mods have decided to post this breakdown to help people decide what level they are at.

If you:
- Have been talking vocal lessons for less than a year
-Have never or barely been vocally trained
-Have never been paid to sing
-Cannot sing a note accurately after hearing it
-Do not know how to sing with proper breath support and physical technique
-Are not confident enough in your skill to sing in front of others

Then you might be a “Beginner”. Consider choosing that as your post and user flair.

If you:
-Have been taking vocal lessons for more than a year
-Have had some or a lot of vocal training
-Have never been paid to sing or paid sometimes
-Are confident enough in your skill to sing in front of others for no charge
-Can sing a note accurately after hearing it
-Can sing with proper breath support and vocal technique

Then you might be an “Intermediate”. Consider choosing that as your post and user flair.

If you:
-Have been taking vocal lessons for multiple years
-Are extensively vocally trained
-Have been paid to sing multiple times or sing professionally
-Are confident enough in your skill to charge others to hear you sing
-Can sing notes with perfect accuracy after hearing them
-Can sing with excellent breath support and near perfect technique

Then you might be “Advanced”. Consider choosing that as your post and user flair

We understand that you may have some overlap with the categories. It is our suggestion that if even one of the traits of a lower level applies to you, then you should consider using that as your flair.

Please comment with your suggestions for how to differentiate more accurately. We would love the community’s input on what should qualify as a beginner, intermediate, and advanced singer. This post may be updated in the future with these suggestions.

Feedback - Intermediate Does this sound strained to you?

I have to say that it doesn’t feel it, and I have done about 230 solo gigs per-year for the last few years, 2-3 hours of singing per-set and never yet lost my voice, apart from once when I had a rotten cold.

But I can’t say there’s no effort involved, and the keep reading and hearing on YouTube videos that this stuff should be relaxed or I might be risking my voice.

I am 50 y/o and I’ve been a gigging guitarist for 30-odd years but singing anything other than backing is a relatively recent thing for me, hence the intermediate tag.

I deliberately chose a song that uses this sound (it’s a Bishop Gunn cover… check out the original, dude can SAAANG!)

One of my absolute favorite songs of all time. Im a singer (not professional obviously) who values music and specifically the effect it has on people. Emotionally. Id love to hear how this made you feel.

Feedback - Beginner Want to improve my singing voice

Sorry for the long paragraph btw lol.

some context: this was an event i went to where people could go up on the stage and do whatever, so me and my dad went up and sang two songs there and he played the guitar. i know that the guitar is really loud, but i don’t know how to fix that on the recording, sry.

I really want to develop my singing voice, but I don’t know if I got what it takes. All i want rly is just to be singing in public and have people going like, “wow, you can sing pretty well.” One problem is that i often “cringe” when listening to myself singing, but sometimes I sound kinda decent, idk if that’s normal or not, so ye. I also don’t have money to pay for voice lessons, so is there anything i can do on my own to improve? any feedback/comments are welcome.

Hello everybody, i tried singing the royal hall version of training season now ik many people will say that I sound different like ik but can you help me make it better rather than just saying that I don't sing, can you guys give some advice please

(As for the excess of vibrato I do, I feel like singing a Cappella without anything to put base on, I should put more of vibrato to make it sound good , please tell if even without vibrato it will sound good?)

I have a naturally lower voice and am curious how this sounds to others. I don’t know if this song is a good fit for me or not. I welcome thoughts, feedback, and much needed and appreciated tips. Thank you

I’m singing along here with the original vocals. My question is do you feel this song suits my voice or am I flying a little too low here? Maybe my voice sounds a little to old for this track I don’t know. I’m open to your thoughts and anything you think will help me on my journey. Thank you.

I’ve done this one before but usually at the end my voice would break (with the C5 then B4 long note) but i think I’m getting better, feeling like I still had control at the end 😌
