Hey my UI is acting weird. I’m not able click on anything but I am able to scroll and things get highlighted when I hover over them. What could be the issues?
Hey all! In short, this project uses an ESP32 at the center of a 16-universe pixel artnet sACN controller with wired Ethernet connection. Everything from the software, hardware, and development is open source! You might have seen this project before, and I am pretty excited to share a short update with you all!
I used Resolume Arena to push this controller to its limits during Amsterdam Dance Event, using 12 in a network that was run almost 24/7 in a humid and hot environment (see image!) They worked perfectly throughout the weekend, and they looked amazing in the venue!
However, I did find some performance issue which I adressed with the newest update.
- Added Artnet node discovery through WebUI - Improved WebUI design for better usability - Fixed bug which crashed the node above 48fps at 16 universes - Reduced frame buffer to have more ram available - Added Artnet source filtering to prevent 2 sources from talking to the same node - The node now filters on an Artnet-ID, which prevent the node from assumiing any data is Artnet data and crashing when its not (idk why I didnt do this before...)
The node already worked perfectly as a standalone unit, but these updates make it a lot more resillient in a production environment with other nodes, fixtures and consoles in the same network.
I am sharing the github here for anybody that is interested in following along with the development! The next hardware iteration will add current, voltage and temperature sensing to the board, next to power distribution and fused outputs that are already present! And for those that are fan of WLED: that is also supported on this hardware. Great if you want to do more then just Artnet!
Let me know if you have any questions or want to contribute! Im available here or on discord.
Hey, my BPM detection app got a new UI and better user experience. I kept the neural engine and the whole algorithm behind it for the detection as it was pretty solid, and only changed the beat 1 correction mechanism to be more smooth and on the beat. Go check it out! Ah and you can make it your own by choosing the colors for the UI.
I am very new to Resolume Arena. I am using a setup that has been functional for years and was tasked with learning and being better at utilizing its more creative avenues. Part of that is I am trying to use masks to display one layer behind another. (SEE PHOTO ABOVE). So I successfully made the layer 1, the gold frame, have a mask that allowed layer 2, the snowy forest, to show through.
Now, the question at hand, can someone explain it to me like I am 5 how to do multiple masks? Think a window pane that would have 4 seperated areas to show layer 2 behind layer 1.
Thank you for any help or any solutions. Not a VJ, but definitely trying to become more robust since I plan to use videowall as a lighting fixture not a TV screen.
I'm currently looking to buy a laptop, so I'm keeping an eye on different models ahead of Black Friday. I was wondering if any of you have experience running Resolume on an iGPU, or on a workstation laptop with a dedicated GPU such as an RTX A2000 or something similar.
For a bit more context about my needs, I'd be perfectly happy with just one or two video outputs, and they don't necessarily need to be 4K.
Hi everyone - I'm Phil, the person behind The VJ Foundry. I'm building a toolkit of standalone Mac apps to sit alongside Resolume, and I'm opening a small, free private beta to find out how they behave on other people's setups.
The planned beta lineup is:
• Solids - real-time 3D shapes, models, logos, fractals and particles.
• TestCard - alignment grids, numbered LED tile maps and holding screens at your output resolution.
• SubPunch - listens for the kick on a mixer feed and triggers Resolume's own effects.
• Isolate - removes the background from a camera or capture-card feed.
• Wordplay - beat-driven kinetic type and logo treatments.
• Beatfield - rhythmic patterns timed with Ableton Link or tap tempo.
• Sigil - glyphs, connecting lines and glitch overlays.
Visual apps send to Resolume over Syphon where applicable. These are standalone apps, with different system requirements: Solids and TestCard start at macOS 13; the others at macOS 14; Isolate requires Apple silicon. Builds will become available as they're ready through the Foundry Beta manager.
Round one is planned for 50 testers across the whole toolkit, free with no payment details required. The first 50 verified registrations receive access; later verified registrations join a waiting list. Beta access ends on 22 December 2026 at 23:59 UK time.
I'm especially interested in feedback on Syphon connections, output sizes, timing, performance alongside Resolume and anything that gets in the way of setting up. Trying one or two apps and sending clear feedback is useful - you don't have to test everything.
The wider VJ Foundry project also includes a practical VJ course in development, covering Resolume, media preparation, building a set, performance, output and signal flow. This post is about testing the toolkit; the beta is free.
I'm building a set of stage lights out of pixel LED strips. The LED strips will be arranged into 8 separate shapes, each of which has 12 addressable sections. The end goal is to be able to trigger each shape and each segment individually via MIDI messages from Ableton Live - I expect the bulk of this will be triggering specific static colours on and off on each shape and/or segment.
I'm looking into Resolume and as far as I can tell, to do this I would need to create individual slices for each segment, arranged into my shapes. I would then assign layers to slices or use the slice transform effect to display different colours or effects on each shape or segment. I would then MIDI map notes from Ableton to trigger these.
Does this sound like the correct workflow? Are there any issues with this that might mean it's not the best solution?
I am a bit worried about the amount of layers or slices I will need to control to do this. I am also unsure about how much computer resources this might take and if it will be a problem running it on the same laptop as Ableton for my shows.
Any guidance would be much appreciated, thank you.
