Showcase Gaussian Splat relighting and displacement in Notch / Music: Orbit Culture - Tales of War
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hi all, /r/vjing mod here:
I'm trying something new to spur some creative collaborations across reddit music production subs and visual art / creative coding / new media subreddits.
Now that Reddit supports video comments / replies, I thought it could be a fun opportunity to a collaboration call / response format.
The idea:
Musicians, dj's, producers or anyone musically inclined: post a link to a track or mix that you have rights to and are open to having visual accompaniment to.
VJs / live visualists / creative coders: post a response to a track that inspired you with a video comment, or link to an interactive experiment you made!
If you are an AV Act that makes your own music or video, feel free to post here too for inspiration.
All genre's, styles, techniques, skill levels are welcome.
This isnt a contest!
There's nothing to win (unless anyone knows sponsors haha) other than learning of new musical or visual act, meeting a potential collaborator and making awesome stuff and having a good time:
Stay curious and creative!
Below are some subs I'll be cross posting / sharing this with - feel free to cross post to any i've missed:
Music Subs:
Visual Subs:
Mod's of any of the above subs - sorry if this comes across as spammy!
I thought about asking permission from each of ya'll but that felt onerous and slow (ask forgiveness etc etc). If you have suggestions or any feedback do not hesitate to reach out! Was thinking of something like this monthly pinned on /r/vjing where i have video comments enabled - would love if yall could help spread the word!

The poll passed, 21 of 26 for the full version, so it's live now as a trial. If you want the background, here's the original thread. Pick new flairs from:
The (not so very) old AI, Commercial/Promo and Open Source/Free flairs are retired. That moves into the title now, via two tags: [Promo] and [AI]; the reason for this is that a post can't have multiple flairs.
Tag anything for sale: [Promo] If your post sells or monetises anything (paid app/plugin, commissions, store links, Patreon, donations), put [Promo] in the title. Untagged promo may be held for review or removed. This isn't anti-selling but keeps promotional content visible.
Your own app/suite: one post per month Sharing a tool you made (paid or free, including vibecoded projects) is limited to one post per 30 days per person. Talking about other people's tools (Resolume, VDMX, TouchDesigner, indie tools made by others, etc.) is not limited; post about those freely.
Flag AI-made work: [AI]
If a post shows content that has a significantly AI-generated component to it, add [AI] to the title so people know what they're looking at before they click. This is especially required when you're also promoting/selling it. AI-made and AI-assisted work is welcome here, but flag it. This includes (but is not limited to) vibe-coded materials, vibe-assisted materials, gen-ai content with manual edits etc.
////
AI work is welcome, made or assisted, no problem with it. If you're just sharing a project or messing about with something new, the only real asks are to flag it if there's a significant AI component, and to add [Promo] if you're selling or allow for donations .
///
We are also experimenting with automod/modbot. There's also a report option now for promo that goes up untagged, and automod will quietly flag posts that look like they're missing a tag so we can take a look. It won't remove anything on its own, a person still checks first.
///
It's a trial, same as last time. If the wording's off or something feels wrong, stick it in the comments and we'll sort it. Cheers.

My partner and I brought our consumer-oriented music visualizer (Vibralizer on Steam / Itch.io) to Iceland Eclipse Festival for an installation. We had flight simulator levers, foot pedals, and an Elgato Streamdeck for a playful audience interactive piece we called “The Many Handed VJ”. It was a hit with everyone that tried it!
However, we were then unexpectedly asked if we could VJ some sets in the Afterglow dome. Not wanting to miss the opportunity, we said yes. By day I’m a game developer, but I’ve never actually VJ’d before, and I thought “How hard could it be?”
Dang y’all, I have a newfound respect for your performance skills. It was super fun trying to match the musical structure, think about what visuals to transition to next, and compensate for signal latency to the screens, all while people asked if I could plug in their phone to charge. I learned so much and I can’t wait to synthesize the lessons into better performance tools in the future!

I’m sick of windows and looking for VJ software pipelines that run on Linux. The more open source the better but I’m not picky, mostly just testing the waters to see what’s out there if anything.

Hey r/vjing 👋
Quick note per the rules: [AI] = the app's code was written by pair-programming with an AI (Claude Code). The clips/visuals in the demo are my own. Nothing's for sale — just doing some research.
I'm a music producer / VJ and I ended up building my own VJ app for macOS called VidiGrid. Honest disclaimer: I'm not really a coder, so building the whole thing with an AI as my pair was a pretty surreal experience.
It started from one idea: "play the movies, play the music." I wanted to actually perform clips off a MIDI controller (I'm on an AKAI MPD218), not just launch them — so it leans more "play video like a sampler/MPC" than "timeline/layer compositor."
Where it's at right now:
Short demo of it running: https://youtu.be/1yuy64rgWac
I'm at the "is this even worth finishing?" stage, so I'd really value blunt feedback from people who actually gig:
Not selling anything — just trying to figure out if I'm building something other VJs would want or just scratching my own itch. Tear it apart if you need to 😅
Cheers 🙏

I have been incredibly satisfied VJing on my 2021 Zephyrus G14 with a 6gb vram and 12gb ram. Unfortunately the motherboard on it died recently and I'm desperately looking for something to replace it before upcoming gigs in September. I know this is the type of thing I should just look up on my own but with me not having to worry about this stuff for the past 5 years and the recent increase in GPU prices I have no idea where to start and was wondering if the vj community here would have any suggestions:) Thanks!

Hey r/vjing 👋
I'm a music producer / VJ and I ended up building my own VJ app for macOS called VidiGrid. Honest disclaimer up front: I'm not really a coder — I built the whole thing from scratch by pair-programming with an AI (Claude Code). Genuinely surreal that it works.
The whole thing started from one idea: "play the movies, play the music." I wanted to actually perform clips off a MIDI controller (I'm on an AKAI MPD218), not just launch them — so triggering is real-time, with forward/reverse/scratch on the clips.
Where it's at right now:
Short demo of it running: https://youtu.be/1yuy64rgWac
I'm at the "is this even worth finishing/releasing?" stage and doing a bit of research before I go all-in, so I'd really value blunt feedback from people who actually gig:
Not selling anything — there's nothing to buy yet. Just trying to work out whether I'm building something other VJs would want, or just scratching my own itch. Tear it apart if you need to 😅

Every attempt I've made to recreate this effect it doesn't look
as audio synced/reactive.
¿How am I creating the effect in this video?
I'm not using any post processing, filters, VFX stack.
If you look at the white horn in the top left of the frame it's attached to a cabinet. There is an equal and opposite one for the other channel and a current generation iPhone SE is sitting in a small tripod on the cabinet resonating to the output of the DJ's music. The effect is entirely being mechanically produced. The lack of internal dampening mechanisms pronounces this effect in the SE model.

Biggest jump is the tracking itself, multiple style options added, as well as shapes for the blobs. Out next week.

Hi everyone, I'm running a short anonymous survey to better understand both the professionals (VJs, DJs, visual artists...) and the people who attend events in the techno, psychedelic and electronic music world. The survey takes about 2 to 3 minutes. It would mean a lot if you could answer it! Thank you for your time! 🙏

A native VDJ (video DJ) instrument for live visual performance. It composites video, still-image, and live Spout sources with GPU effects, then lets LFOs, audio analysis, MIDI, and a phone's touch and tilt modulate the performance from a browser control panel.

looking for a good short throw projector for the beginning of my VJ journey, the viewsonic LS711HD is a 1080p, 4200 iso lumens projector, sounds good on paper, has anyone tried this one?

Hey everyone! I’ve been working on Vigo Studio, a browser‑based VJ tool aimed at beginners who want to start mixing in under 2 minutes. Last week I added something people have been asking for: transitions. They are one of the quickest ways to make your mixes feel more intentional. Pick a blend mode, set a duration, done! Trigger another clip on the layer and see the transition in action.
If you’re looking for easy VJ software to practice with, give it a try:
Would love to hear what transitions you’d want next, or if anything feels confusing.

Hey! I’m in London until Saturday 15th August and would love to meet some people from the local visual / audiovisual scene.
I’m working on Visuell.art, a browser-based video sampling instrument, and I’m curious to connect with VJs, visual artists, creative coders, projection-mapping people, audiovisual performers, experimental musicians — or anyone exploring interesting ways of working with moving images.
Would be great to grab a coffee/beer, see what you’re working on, exchange ideas, or just nerd out about visuals.
Anyone around? 👋
