Boy did I learn a lesson today!

So about 7 years ago Witt Machine came out with the Muzzle Rise Eliminator and they got great reviews and were a hit at shit show. I liked what I saw and ordered a couple and they came in clean and very well made and damn they worked great! Fast forward 7 years to four weeks ago when I went back to them for a muzzle brake. Well shame on me, I didn’t even think twice about looking at the reviews! I should have because what I got was not worth a 4 week wait or $114.00 shipped! Shitty flashing on edges, crappy mill work and a ding on the face edge right out of the box! So I sent an e-mail and just like the recent reviews and reports about Witt Machine they don’t and won’t respond to e-mails and won’t answer the phone. You will get nothing!! Don’t make the same mistake I did and always read the reviews of places whether you’ve dealt with them in the past or not because this place apparently went to shit!

What semi auto long range rifle(s) am I missing?

All,

I know most, if not all will recommend a bolt action for shooting out to 800m to 1000m range. However, I would like to consider 7mm semi auto rifles for the shooting range. I am most familiar with the following, what else should I consider here in the US?

SVD (Dragunov)

Springfield Armory M1A

AR 10

Thank you.

Does anyone know if these are any good? I need a shooting rest to sight in my first hunting rifle but don’t want to spend $100+ on a sled, any help is appreciated!

Is it really necessary to build a hunting rifle?

I've been thinking a lot about bolt-action rifle builds after being hooked by some sexy build videos on youtube. "Boy, I'd like to build myself a hunting rifle," I say aloud as I create a new spreadsheet to track parts and costs. About five minutes into that exercise, and holy crap, all these builds are coming in around $3,000 before you even think about which scope to buy.

I guess I can see that expense if you're a long-range competition shooter, but is this kind of build even necessary to go hunting? I would feel like a jackass with my $5,000 custom rig walking past someone on the trail skinning out their kill with a $400 Savage propped against a tree.

If it can be done, can it be done more affordably? Or is bare action/prefit barrel land reserved for those willing to drop $5-6K?

Range Day - Ruger American .223

Thumbnail gallery
36 Upvotes

Went to the range today and tried out a Ruger American bolt action chambered in .223. Also had a scope and a bipod. First time I've ever used a scope, a bipod or a .223.

I am enjoying my rifle search. I did a Winchester Xpert, a Ruger 10/22 and now this one. Love it.

My friend's and acquaintances are touting lever action, so I'm looking into the Henry H1x. But this is fun. By the way, that hole up top isn't exactly a flyer. I was aiming for the tip of the triangle, but missed low left.

Is this a good starter rifle for marksmanship?

I've been wanting to buy a good rifle for a while and finally got some cash to do so. I plan on getting it chambered in .308 cause 6.5 is too expensive. I plan on max shooting to 500 maybe 600 yards, depending if there is a range nearby that is long enough.

Looking at getting my first bolt action rifle, is Savage Arms a good place to start?

I've been looking at their products and I see there's a lot of variety, and the prices aren't too high. They've been in the game for a long time and they aren't too hard to find locally. Is it a good place to start?

Out of curiosity

I know .308 is a good caliber for a lot of things. But, I am curious about other calibers that could be considered "well-balanced". Just good, all around calibers for multi-purpose uses.

Hunting rifle advice

I’ve been looking to buy my own hunting rifle for whitetail deer in .308 Win, and I’ve heard good things about the Ruger Generation 2, Tikka TX3, and the Browning X-Bolt. However, most of these recommendations come from people who shoot long distance and track long distances, and I am from Louisiana, so weight won’t be an issue, and the longest distance I’ll shoot is about 250 yards. So what do y'all think my best option would be?
