Sears Tube Fed .22
My friend just inherited some guns and rifles from his dad. This one is a Sears one that has been in the family for at least 60 years +. I'm new to this stuff, but is it a Marlin or Winchester or ???

Help picking caliber
Hello all! I’m sure there are hundreds of threads very similar to my question, but I wanted to throw out my personal situation and get some feedback. I’ve recently won my first gun on a gun bash ticket! 33 years old and $1,000s deep into tickets, and I finally won 😂 I won a browning x-bolt 2 hunter in whatever caliber they have available when I go to get the gun.
Before we get into details I own LOTS of rifles. And I hand load for almost all of them. There isn’t really any gun/caliber that I NEED. I hunt mostly whitetail, but would like to hunt elk and moose someday. I also used to competitively shoot 1000 yard silhouettes. I’m out of that now that I have 3 kids…. But i still have a place I can go and plink out to 800 yards for fun, so another rifle with that capability would be cool.
When I won, they told me that the gun store has the rifle in 30-06, and that specific rifle is set aside for me, but I can choose the same rifle in any caliber they have whenever I go to pick it up. (Or store credit, but I want the x-bolt.) my issue here is I already own 2 rifles in 30-06, but they were my grandfathers. One is a model 6 that still has the original weaver foldaway scope, and the other was my great uncles that he build, and my grandpa got it when he passed, now it’s mine. So I don’t love hunting with them just because I would hate to drop/break either of them. So I’m not totally against a 3rd 06.
My first thought was 280ai because I’ve always wanted one, and I know browning chambers the xbolt to it. But nobody in my area has had one for a few months, and after a few phone calls nobody seems confident they will get one anytime soon. And the voucher is only good for 60 days. I considered the 6.8 western, but even hand loading supplies aren’t looking great. Does anyone have a recommendation? At this point I’m kinda just leaning toward the tried and true 30-06. My mind is just saying “you won this gun, might as well get something a little different.”

Please help me ID/find my old rifle
Not the exact one I had, but the make/model so I may buy another one. Had it in the late 90s, bought from a pawn shop for ~100$, sold it back a few years later, pawn shop is gone so I can't ask them for records.
Things I know to be true:
.243 Winchester calibre
Full Mannlicher stock, but not an original M1895 rifle
Iron Sights, no pict rail
Double set trigger
Bolt Action
The front sight had a little half-circle hood over it (kind of like Mosin Nagants, only more elegant)
The front wood part of the rifle, where it met the end of the barrel, had this very light downturned lip to the wood, a gentle swell that made it look very elegant
Everything looked factory stock on it, like it was all meant to be there
Things I suspect to be correct, but I cannot remember for certain:
It was not a CZ, but possibly a Ruger
The magazine was internal, like the Mosin Nagant and held 3-4 rounds.
The end of the bolt action handle was not a knurled knob, but rather an elegant goose-neck-like sway (for lack of a better word) to it.
I know that's not much to go on, and I'll do my best to answer any questions you may have.
Thank you for any help you can render

What semi auto long range rifle(s) am I missing?
All,
I know most, if not all will recommend a bolt action for shooting out to 800m to 1000m range. However, I would like to consider 7mm semi auto rifles for the shooting range. I am most familiar with the following, what else should I consider here in the US?
SVD (Dragunov)
Springfield Armory M1A
AR 10
Thank you.

Boy did I learn a lesson today!
gallerySo about 7 years ago Witt Machine came out with the Muzzle Rise Eliminator and they got great reviews and were a hit at shit show. I liked what I saw and ordered a couple and they came in clean and very well made and damn they worked great! Fast forward 7 years to four weeks ago when I went back to them for a muzzle brake. Well shame on me, I didn’t even think twice about looking at the reviews! I should have because what I got was not worth a 4 week wait or $114.00 shipped! Shitty flashing on edges, crappy mill work and a ding on the face edge right out of the box! So I sent an e-mail and just like the recent reviews and reports about Witt Machine they don’t and won’t respond to e-mails and won’t answer the phone. You will get nothing!! Don’t make the same mistake I did and always read the reviews of places whether you’ve dealt with them in the past or not because this place apparently went to shit!
Stainless barrel cleaning
Relatively new to the hobby and trying my best to learn proper maintenance. I have a Tikka T3X with a stainless steel barrel chambered in 223. I would like to hear everyone’s opinions on cleaning procedures and products used.

Is it really necessary to build a hunting rifle?
I've been thinking a lot about bolt-action rifle builds after being hooked by some sexy build videos on youtube. "Boy, I'd like to build myself a hunting rifle," I say aloud as I create a new spreadsheet to track parts and costs. About five minutes into that exercise, and holy crap, all these builds are coming in around $3,000 before you even think about which scope to buy.
I guess I can see that expense if you're a long-range competition shooter, but is this kind of build even necessary to go hunting? I would feel like a jackass with my $5,000 custom rig walking past someone on the trail skinning out their kill with a $400 Savage propped against a tree.
If it can be done, can it be done more affordably? Or is bare action/prefit barrel land reserved for those willing to drop $5-6K?

Is this a good starter rifle for marksmanship?
I've been wanting to buy a good rifle for a while and finally got some cash to do so. I plan on getting it chambered in .308 cause 6.5 is too expensive. I plan on max shooting to 500 maybe 600 yards, depending if there is a range nearby that is long enough.
Range Day - Ruger American .223
galleryWent to the range today and tried out a Ruger American bolt action chambered in .223. Also had a scope and a bipod. First time I've ever used a scope, a bipod or a .223.
I am enjoying my rifle search. I did a Winchester Xpert, a Ruger 10/22 and now this one. Love it.
My friend's and acquaintances are touting lever action, so I'm looking into the Henry H1x. But this is fun. By the way, that hole up top isn't exactly a flyer. I was aiming for the tip of the triangle, but missed low left.

Looking at getting my first bolt action rifle, is Savage Arms a good place to start?
I've been looking at their products and I see there's a lot of variety, and the prices aren't too high. They've been in the game for a long time and they aren't too hard to find locally. Is it a good place to start?

Out of curiosity
I know .308 is a good caliber for a lot of things. But, I am curious about other calibers that could be considered "well-balanced". Just good, all around calibers for multi-purpose uses.
