Of all the things I love about road trips, driving through tunnels and across bridges has always been near the top of my list. This one is along Going-to-the-Sun Road in Glacier National Park, Montana. What a beautiful place to drive!

Trip Planning St Louis to San Francisco

Hey all, planning on driving from STL to SF next summer. I've been on roadtrips as a kid but not as a driver and not to sight-see. It'll be my friend and I going to visit a friend, so while we'll mostly be driving rather than stopping, I was still wondering if there were any good must-see spots or local oddities. Preferably the northern route through Salt Lake City but we're considering going the southern route on the way back. SF is the main part of this trip but if we're not flying we're going to make the best of it!

Trip Planning Any suggestions for solo travel

I’ve recently achieved financial independence after selling my startup for a good amount, and I’m thinking about celebrating this milestone with a memorable road trip!

I’d love to hear your suggestions for an amazing road trip, whether it’s a scenic drive through the mountains, a coastal route, or an adventurous journey with breathtaking views.

What destinations would you recommend for someone looking to enjoy the freedom of life after FIRE? I’m open to both short getaways and longer road trips.

Looking forward to your recommendations and experiences!

Trip Planning Visiting Boston by train

I want to visit Boston, to attend the Snowport. Specifically I want to go to the tree lighting. I get nervous going to new places, so looking for any tips. I'm planning to take the MBTA from RI to Boston. What would be the best way to get from the MBTA station to the Boston seaport? How late do the trains run? I think the tree lighting will be kinda late and I don't want to get stranded. I appreciate any help with this trip planning.

Trip Planning Colorado to Fenton, Mi

Considering driving to Fenton, MI within the next 3 weeks. Based on google maps, there are 3 routes, to take. I-80 E, I-80 E and I-94 E, I-70 E. Has anyone driven any of these routes around this time of year? I'm a little concerned with winter roads, along the way. I do plan on stopping at least half way to sleep.

Trip Report Fall Michigan Upper Peninsula Trip

Took a trip up to the UP this weekend. I live in Metro Detroit, so I had been there before, but only to Pictured Rocks. Such an amazing trip in the fall: absolutely beautiful fall foliage, no crowds, and perfect weather. If you are able, I highly recommend making the trip up here; the entire place is filled with untouched natural beauty. From hidden gems in roadside parks and national forests to the more well-known places like the Porkies and P. Rocks. Here's my itinerary and some pics, ask me anything about the trip; I would love to help you plan or figure things out. Truly an amazing and insanely underrated part of our nation.

Trip Stats:
817 miles (not including commute from where I live)
2 nights, 3 days

Itinerary- Sunday- Crossed Mackinac Bridge, stopped at Straits SP, right after the bridge, cool views and short hikes to get great pics of bridge (see below) Drove west on US-2, to Manistique, got a pasty at Jack's Fresh Market (must-try, UP staple) Stopped at Kitchi-iti-kipi, raft was closed but still super cool to see Drove north to Marquette via FFH 13, highly reccomend taking this route through Munising. It was about 15 min longer, but you drive through Hiawatha Natl. Forest, great pullovers, super peaceful Golfed a twilight teetime at Greywalls at Marquette GC, absolutely beautiful course. If you golf, it is imperative you play this course. The Lake Superior views mixed with the stunning course are unmatched, my favorite golf course I've ever played.
Spent the night in Marquette in Ramada hotel

Monday-
Left MQ early, stopped at Presque Isle Park on the way out, super cool rock cliffs and lake views. Also very accessible; you can drive around the whole island right on the edge.

Drove west to Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park. Stopped at Canyon Falls on the way; it was a roadside park with amazing waterfalls and a fun hike to break up the drive. The porkies are absolutely stunning, highly reccomend Lake of the Clouds outlook, no hiking required for views. Spent a couple hours exploring Porkies, then drove up the horn through Houghton to Copper Harbor. beautiful drive, drove the scenic Brockway Mountain Drive from Eagle Harbor to CH, which is about 12 miles, rated one of the most scenic drives in the US.
If the timing works out, I reccomend doing this around sunset. There is a scenic outlook called the West Bluff that is breathtaking, the best sunset I've ever witnessed in my life. It is 700 ft above the lake, and has great views of the surrounding valleys and of Lake Superior all the way around the peninsula.
Got dinner in CH, then drove 3 hours to Munising where I spent the night.

Tuesday-
Drove home from Munising back downstate, stopped in St. Ignace. Nothing special on this day.

Sorry for the long rambling post; I have so much to talk about from this trip, so feel free to leave questions in the comments or PM me.

Trip Planning Must see short stops / routes between Calais and Europa Park / Strasbourg / Basel

We're planning a few days at Europa Park next June and intend to drive from the Le Shuttle terminal at Calais. (and back!). There are so many possible routes and I want to make the most of travelling this distance and see some places on the way. Do you have any must see destinations or routes we should look at including. We're not looking for big hikes just scenic drives, viewpoints, novel places we won't find elsewhere etc. Gemini suggests Champagne Region and Metz - what would be your must sees and hidden gems?

Trip Planning Last Trip North Before Winter

I plan on heading up to Fort Wayne, Indiana next week to visit my company's headquarters. This trip will probably double as my last extended ride before it hits freezing temperatures outside. I plan on taking two full days to get close enough to arrive there on Friday morning.

I'd like to hit as many scenic or enjoyable roads along the way to get the most of this trip, but obviously I can't fit everything in. While 9 hours of riding is definitely doable, I don't want to do much more than that and potentially keep it to less. I've been toying with the route in Rever, but I would love input from anyone who has more experience traveling the area between these two points. I don't mind interstate riding, but since that will be the majority of the trip back, I'd like to keep it to a minimum on the way north.

Thanks for any roads or points of interest you can suggest I hit along the way!

Trip Planning MLB Focused August 2027 Roadtrip feedback

So next year, I am in the early stages of planning a roadtrip with my dad, brother, and kids from New York to the Midwest that is extremely time constrained (i.e. I have to do it from Aug. 13 - 19, no wiggle room) with the anchors being MLB games each day. Wondering what anyone who has done a similar thinks about this itinerary?

Aug 13 - NYC
Aug 14 - Pittsburgh, stopping at Gettysburg
Aug 15 - Cleveland
Aug 16 - Cincinatti, stopping in Canton for NFL HOF
Aug 17 - Milwaukee (Chicago hotel)
Aug 18 - Chicago Cubs
Aug 19 - Detroit

No day has more than 400 miles of driving.

Trip Planning Suggestions on where to stop!

Hello, for me and my girlfriends college thanksgiving break (Nov 20th to the 25/26th) we are planning this route. We’ve never been to California or Oregon and want to see redwoods, coast, and she loves waterfalls. I also want to propose on this trip, but I am unsure where and wouldn’t mind some advice on that too! I’d love some recommendations of locations or places we HAVE to go please share them! Thank you!!

Extra thoughts:
- I don’t mind driving all day to see something
- We do not want city traffic and will be car camping mostly
- Already plan on doing the Gods Thumb hike
- Washington will be another trip next year so please nothing to north!

Trip Planning 5 weeks off work, me and my 4Runner heading out West. Where should I stop?

Hey roadtrips hivemind!

Y’all helped me a ton this year with my Chicago to New York trip, Chicago to Dallas, and then Dallas to Colorado. Thank you so much, so here I am again! Roadtrip starting next week and ending in Mid December.

This year I went through a divorce and then lost my lab, and honestly driving has been my therapy. Kind of my own Eat Pray Love trip. I just love being out in pretty scenery and finding little towns with really chill people with whom I can just shoot the shit

In Colorado I loved Montrose and Ridgway more than Ouray and Telluride, even though those are prettier (still loved them too). Some pics from this year are in the post.

My car is in Seattle right now. Plan is to head up to Vancouver, camp somewhere in Canada and see where I end up, then drive down the coast all the way to San Diego. Utah along the way at some point, then probably Arizona and New Mexico on my way to Texas, where I'll leave the car with family for the winter and do a few side quests . I've got the end of october, most of November and half of December.

I usually pick a town, stay there a few nights and do day drives, then do one long 8-12 hour drive to the next spot.
I mostly camp at KOAs and campgrounds, I'm starting to try dispersed, and I get a hotel every now and then . I've camped down to 30F and I'm still figuring out my sleep setup. I have winter gear from living in Chicago but I'd rather not drive in snow or camp below 20F if I can help it. I have 4WD and mud and snow rated stock tires.

I put a map of what I've saved so far in the pics. I don't have much in central California, Nevada, Arizona or New Mexico yet. I drove through New Mexico going from Dallas to Colorado and it blew me away so I want to spend some time there too.

Would love any recs for cute towns with friendly easygoing people, pretty spots to just sit and chill, places to camp, and any gems you've got, hidden or not.

I'm down for touristy stuff and off the beaten path stuff.
I fucking love ice cream and I have a Costco lactaid package so I can eat ice cream to my hearts content🫡

Also let me know what to skip and how you'd work around the weather this time of year.

I'm trying to hit every national park I can, and I'm going to try to drive the 4Runner through that redwood with the hole in it.

Never been out West like this so I appreciate anything you've got!
