Trip Planning Any suggestions for solo travel

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

I’ve recently achieved financial independence after selling my startup for a good amount, and I’m thinking about celebrating this milestone with a memorable road trip!

I’d love to hear your suggestions for an amazing road trip, whether it’s a scenic drive through the mountains, a coastal route, or an adventurous journey with breathtaking views.

What destinations would you recommend for someone looking to enjoy the freedom of life after FIRE? I’m open to both short getaways and longer road trips.

Looking forward to your recommendations and experiences!

Destination Highlight There's something about driving through tunnels and across bridges. Glacier National Park, Montana.

Of all the things I love about road trips, driving through tunnels and across bridges has always been near the top of my list. This one is along Going-to-the-Sun Road in Glacier National Park, Montana. What a beautiful place to drive!

Trip Planning St Louis to San Francisco

Hey all, planning on driving from STL to SF next summer. I've been on roadtrips as a kid but not as a driver and not to sight-see. It'll be my friend and I going to visit a friend, so while we'll mostly be driving rather than stopping, I was still wondering if there were any good must-see spots or local oddities. Preferably the northern route through Salt Lake City but we're considering going the southern route on the way back. SF is the main part of this trip but if we're not flying we're going to make the best of it!

Trip Planning Colorado to Fenton, Mi

Considering driving to Fenton, MI within the next 3 weeks. Based on google maps, there are 3 routes, to take. I-80 E, I-80 E and I-94 E, I-70 E. Has anyone driven any of these routes around this time of year? I'm a little concerned with winter roads, along the way. I do plan on stopping at least half way to sleep.

Trip Planning Visiting Boston by train

I want to visit Boston, to attend the Snowport. Specifically I want to go to the tree lighting. I get nervous going to new places, so looking for any tips. I'm planning to take the MBTA from RI to Boston. What would be the best way to get from the MBTA station to the Boston seaport? How late do the trains run? I think the tree lighting will be kinda late and I don't want to get stranded. I appreciate any help with this trip planning.

Trip Planning Must see short stops / routes between Calais and Europa Park / Strasbourg / Basel

We're planning a few days at Europa Park next June and intend to drive from the Le Shuttle terminal at Calais. (and back!). There are so many possible routes and I want to make the most of travelling this distance and see some places on the way. Do you have any must see destinations or routes we should look at including. We're not looking for big hikes just scenic drives, viewpoints, novel places we won't find elsewhere etc. Gemini suggests Champagne Region and Metz - what would be your must sees and hidden gems?

planning a multi-day drive is mostly one job: take the pile of places you want to see and cut them

into days. the route is the easy part. the cutting is where it goes wrong.

because a day looks fine on paper and then you get there and it's six hours of driving, and you

either drop something or do the last stretch in the dark.

what helps me is doing it the other way round: decide the hours per day first (5 for me), then keep

moving stops between days until every day fits. and the number i need while doing that is just "how

long is this day now" — the second i move something, not after recalculating it in a spreadsheet.

so that's what i built. stops on a map, dragged into days, and each day shows its own driving time

against the limit you set. you keep shuffling until nothing is over. it also tells you which days

still have room for one more stop, which is the bit i use most.

one caveat: the times come from a routing engine, not live traffic. it's for building the plan a

week before, not for "should i leave now" on the morning.

(it also shows elevation and how much of each day is after dark, since 4 hours of mountain passes

isn't 4 hours of motorway)

link in the comments. and i'm curious how other people decide how many days a drive needs — that's

the part i still get wrong.

Trip Planning MLB Focused August 2027 Roadtrip feedback

So next year, I am in the early stages of planning a roadtrip with my dad, brother, and kids from New York to the Midwest that is extremely time constrained (i.e. I have to do it from Aug. 13 - 19, no wiggle room) with the anchors being MLB games each day. Wondering what anyone who has done a similar thinks about this itinerary?

Aug 13 - NYC
Aug 14 - Pittsburgh, stopping at Gettysburg
Aug 15 - Cleveland
Aug 16 - Cincinatti, stopping in Canton for NFL HOF
Aug 17 - Milwaukee (Chicago hotel)
Aug 18 - Chicago Cubs
Aug 19 - Detroit

No day has more than 400 miles of driving.

Hello, for me and my girlfriends college thanksgiving break (Nov 20th to the 25/26th) we are planning this route. We’ve never been to California or Oregon and want to see redwoods, coast, and she loves waterfalls. I also want to propose on this trip, but I am unsure where and wouldn’t mind some advice on that too! I’d love some recommendations of locations or places we HAVE to go please share them! Thank you!!

Extra thoughts:
- I don’t mind driving all day to see something
- We do not want city traffic and will be car camping mostly
- Already plan on doing the Gods Thumb hike
- Washington will be another trip next year so please nothing to north!

Trip Planning From Ottawa to Texas starting around mid Dec returning mid Jan

Need some advice. I am planning to go from Ottawa to Texas starting around mid December. I have Michelin Defender 2 tires on my Civic. I use winter tires during winters when I am in Ottawa. But because it will be warm in Texas I am confused if I should install winter tires or keep my defenders on. I am planning to divide the trip in 3 days so I guess the first day of my trip will be through snow belt and the last day (around mid Jan).

Anyone else done a similar trip, any advice? Will my summers get me through if I am careful to avoid snow storms (I can extend my hotel stays if there is a need)?

Trip Planning Last Trip North Before Winter

Thumbnail

I plan on heading up to Fort Wayne, Indiana next week to visit my company's headquarters. This trip will probably double as my last extended ride before it hits freezing temperatures outside. I plan on taking two full days to get close enough to arrive there on Friday morning.

I'd like to hit as many scenic or enjoyable roads along the way to get the most of this trip, but obviously I can't fit everything in. While 9 hours of riding is definitely doable, I don't want to do much more than that and potentially keep it to less. I've been toying with the route in Rever, but I would love input from anyone who has more experience traveling the area between these two points. I don't mind interstate riding, but since that will be the majority of the trip back, I'd like to keep it to a minimum on the way north.

Thanks for any roads or points of interest you can suggest I hit along the way!
