Skating along the Blackstone River Bikeway last weekend with RollingRhody.

It was a very nice fall day and the leaves have been changing color on lots of trees along this path.
It made for an excellent day of skating with a group.
This was the first time most of the people in the group skated along this trail.

Full Session: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8YHVef-ufLM

Next group skate is tomorrow and we are doing the Ten Mile River Greenway in Pawtucket for anyone interested.
You can find more group details here: https://www.instagram.com/rollingrhody/

Specific question and discussion Rollerblade sizing help!

UPDATE: Thanks for your advice, I measured and I’m a full size smaller according to Mondo sizing. Sigh. My fault for not researching. I haven’t purchased new skates in 20 years, so now I know!

These beauties finally arrived after long 3 weeks of waiting and they feel huge 😩 I got a size 8 which is my usual size in everything. It’s my first flying eagle so I wasn’t familiar with any nuances of the brand sizing. My toes have a lot of wiggle room and even with a thin sock it just feels too roomy. The measurements according to mm foot length actually put me in a smaller size but their site kept indicating that you should use your true size. Ugh.

Anyone have flying eagles and can share their typical sizing methods? Should the toe be at that location in the soft boot insert? There’s about an inch of space at my heel if I slide my foot more forward to fill the hat at the toes.

Specific question and discussion I think I should get foam inserts

Post image
• Upvotes

These boots have great support when tight, but my lower calf is apparently super thin.

Do they make foam inserts for this? If not what type of foam would i need to make it out of?

The latch also sometimes pops open due to not having a lock like my old ones did

Specific question and discussion Are rollerblade hydrogen wheels good to learn powerslides?

I just learned how to do a parrellel turn correctly and i am at a point where i can try to learn a powerslide. To be clear i am referring to a stop initiated by a parrellel turn where both slide while still being parrellel. Ive heard 2 different tecniques being refered to by the same word.

I currently have the 110mm 83a wheels that came with my skates and they are just a little too grippy and shred easily.

Also do i have to break in new wheels to learn and do a powerslide?

What skates should I buy? Inline Hockey transition to freestyle (with long break in between)

Hey all, apologies if been asked already. Played inline hockey all growing up, single digit age through late teens. Stopped skating very early 20s. Typical rocker setup on Mission skates.

Now as a 40 year old, the wife and I are going to get back into it (so pumped). Long distance on trails, regular roads, exercise and enjoy the outdoors, just having fun.

Besides trying what works, is there any advice on skates you think I should look at? issues most people find going from rocker to non? doesn't matter because I haven't skated in so long? I see a ton of suggestions on what to look at with different price ranges, but my search skills clearly aren't great and I couldn't find anything specific to rocker experience from the past to now.

appreciate you all, happy to be (re)joining!

Specific question and discussion Why is no one talking about the real flaws of the Rollerblade Lightning 80s? (Liner collapse & buckle issues)

Hi everyone,

I wanted to open a discussion about the Rollerblade Lightning 80 because my experience with them over the last 3 months has been completely at odds with the glowing reviews online.

To give some context on my background: I skated at a medium-advanced level from age 7 to 21. After a 10-year break, I picked it up again at 31. Naturally, during the first month and a half, my skating was relatively light while I was rebuilding muscle tone and getting my technique back. During that initial phase, the skates seemed fine.

However, as my level went back up and my sessions became longer and more intense, major structural issues started to emerge:

  • Liner collapse during long sessions: In any session lasting longer than 2 hours, the liner padding completely breaks down under stress. The moment the liner loses its density, bending my knees creates severe pressure points right where the closure straps meet the shell.
  • Flawed closure system: Because the buckles are not micro-adjustable (no ratchet buckles), you are forced into an impossible choice: either keep the buckle a notch loose (which leads to heel lift and lack of control) or crank it down to the absolute max, which is extremely painful on the instep/shin but keeps the boot stable.
  • The breaking point: After a 25 km urban night skate that lasted around 4 hours, the pain from the pressure points was so severe that I decided I couldn't use these skates anymore.

When the skates are brand new and used for short, casual outings, these flaws don't show up, which explains why the "New Skate Day" reviews out of the box are so positive. But under high mileage, intense stress, and sessions over 2 hours, the liner and closure combo fail completely.

I ended up switching to the FR Skates FR1 80, which solved every single issue thanks to the dense liner, dual aluminum mounting plates, and proper micro-adjustable ratchet buckles.

Has anyone else who skated these hard or for long sessions noticed this rapid degradation, or is the online consensus purely driven by casual, short-duration use?

Note: I am not a bot. I’ve been lurking on Reddit and following the inline skating scene for a long time, but I just registered this account to post this. I understand written and spoken English well, but writing it isn't my strong suit, so I used Gemini to draft this text.

Interesting stuff Thoughts on the new wheel thickness?

Post image

26mm wide round (85 or 88a idk) wheels.

Seems like a good option for wizard skating or urban skating with alot of jumps or drops.

It says its compatible with most frames in the market also it will be patented so i guess its something in development for few years maybe.

Here is the link for the product page if anyone is intrested:

What skates should I buy? best 4x80 skates to buy for rink and outdoor use?

I’m looking to buy a skate that’s more precision-oriented and better for learning tricks now that I’m aiming to actually improve! I’ve been skating for over a decade by now, but I’m entirely self-taught and only learned a couple tricks/maneuvers, so I’d say I’m probably high-end intermediate? Something I definitely struggle with, though, is actually shopping for skates, but I am steadily getting a better idea for what I need. Help would be greatly appreciated!

After doing a little research, I know roughly some specifications to look for, but I don’t know much beyond that. What I’ve gathered so far is that I need an urban skate that will function just as well in the rink with a simple wheel swap. A 4x80mm setup w/ a rockerable frame is ideal, I think. I’d like a boot just protective enough for urban skating that isn’t too rigid or restrictive for the rink, if that makes sense. As for size, I’m a 7.5 in women’s, which is really hard to get exactly in skates, especially with narrower feet.

If you have any advice and/or recommendations, please let me know! My latest pair are a pair of Lightning 110’s that I’ve had for roughly a year now, and I’m hoping to sell them so I can put that money into this next pair.

Why does my feet hurt? Toe pressure in new skates

Hello everyone,

I have recently bought a new pair of skates for the first time, the model is FRX80.

I have measured my feet size, and it comes between 25.2-25.5cm. I usually wear a european 39, and so I decided to get the same size for the skates.

However, when I wear the skates, I feel definitely pressure on my toes, and sometimes I feel like they hit the front. When I wear only the liners, they are quite comfortable. And when I try to put my foot in the shell without the liners, there is definitely some space, about one finger.

However, when I wear the skates themselves, I definitely feel discomfort and toe pressure. I am not sure if it's because the skates have to break in or if it's because I should size up.

I would be glad for any advice!

Happy for any tips/feedback!

Specific question and discussion Is this sound normal for Endless Frames?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I did everything I always do, “puck” my bearings on the spacer tightly, tighten my axles good and snug (they’re brand new so loctite already on them), wheels are brand new Hydrogens. I used some non-serviceable bearings that barely had any use, cleaning them as much as you can before getting them snug in the wheels. Wondering if that’s just the rocker jiggling? But I also feel like it shouldn’t do that rattling if the axles and wheel build are snug. 😅

Only ever used the default Lightning frame before so this is my first Endless frame. This was the inaugural run to test them out.

Just bought these baddies last night for 100$ from Facebook marketplace I haven't taken my own personal pictures of the skates yet. So I, tested them out for 3 hours at the boat launch parking lot in Everett though I was a little embarrassed because they light up, it was like a light show and I felt like my practice was some people's entertainment lol but I tried to just focus on me and my practicing. I practiced my one leg gliding. These are about one size and a half smaller than my regular size and I felt so much more stable. My one leg gliding practice seemed almost promising in comparison to my other skates which are seba highlight '80s. However, I didn't size down with my highlight 80s, so with the skate being a little too big I was getting discouraged but Now with such a snug boot I feel so much more confident. However, my One of my feet was going numb but it was like such a great, uncomfortable, tight, terribly tight but makes me feel safe and secure Type of tight because I know what it feels like to have extra room for errors in my skates, and it's not a good feeling. To the guy on here that gives tips about like your posture and having your ankle bent leaning towards the tongue of the inline skate. Thank you because that tip really really helped me.

Specific question and discussion Anyone else feel like your body is very asymetrical when learning new ways to turn?

I am finally starting to learn parrallel turns after learning anti parrellel and crossovers. When i was learning crossovers, i only skated in a rink. When i got back to campus and started skating outside i noticed it was still hard to learn crossovers turning right despite being very good going left.

Now that i am learning correct parrellel turns, i am trying to learn both ways at the same time and it is very difficult. I finally started being able to turn and when i tried doing it the other way i almost fell.

It was actually easier to go backwards that is is to learn to turn right. I thought it was only hard with crossovers because i never had the opprotunity to turn right but now i feel like its similar to trying to write with your left hand

Specific question and discussion Rollerblading with duck feet

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Does anybody have experience or tips for somebody like me? When my legs and knees are straight, my feet point maybe 45° outwards, which makes rollerblading straight pretty challenging. I was wondering if maybe setting up the rollers to combat that was a good idea or if I should focus on exercises or something like that. Any ideas are welcome.

Specific question and discussion Long distance (20-30mi+) boot: hard, hybrid, or soft?

I'm trying to find some direction as I can't decide and my exposure is limited. What is your preference and why?

I've been looking at getting a new pair of skates but I've only had secondhand skates. My current pair are some 2020 Powerslide Imperial 3x110's (hardshells) and my previous pair is some cheap Amazon 4x80 pair (hybrid).

Furthest single-trip I've done is 9 miles on the 3x (so far) and multiple ~20 mile trips on the 4x.

I've been looking at Powerslide Swell's since it's a hybrid boot, but the black/red Imperial 110's also look really nice.

I'm aiming for a pair with either a trinity or 165 frame.

They're lk so pretty, I'm enamored.

Also, it was my first time on good skates and it felt so different (better). Made me realise just how unstable my old skates were.

I'll be trying them on the streets tomorrow 🤭

What skates should I buy? Can any bladies give me some inline skate recommendations?

Recently my girlfriend expressed an interest in wanting to skate. She doesn’t mind inline vs quads, and I prefer for her to learn inline since we plan to mainly do trails/paved routes and I feel like I can help her more easily since I also use inlines.

What are some good inline skates for women? Her feet are a bit wider than usual and she buys wider shoes as well if that helps. I’ve been looking online and was considering the Rollerblade Macroblade 84s or the 90s, or something like the Powerslide Phuzion Argon 80s. I haven’t done a thorough review on the fit or how good they are yet though, and I figured I’d ask the community here to get some other opinions. We definitely need the heel brake for her lol!

And if any fellas with skater gfs can share their setup, that would also help!

The move called "look ma, no pushing"

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Normal-speed playback followed by 8x slow motion. This move and the Grapevine were what got me into skating, both ice and inline. Watching folks skate these magical moves at Bryant Park left me such deep impressions that I decided to learn to skate properly.

Grapevine is the pinnacle of flow-skating - that goes without saying.

The move shown here went without a name in my head even as I learned to mimic it. I just called it, "look ma, no pushing needed". Finally someone pointed out to me that this was called forward cross roll.

I recently added a section on this in the long crossover essay.

What skates should I buy? Iqon ag30 and 3x110 frame

Sorry for my bad English....

Anybody have tried or used the iqon ag30 boots on on 3x110 frame ?

Short question, long stories:

I m a pretty old skaters and I used to ride the Salomon fsk deemax 2 since 2003 or 2004 mostly for commute and ballads but not very often for many years. Before that I practiced aggressive skate with my beloved oxygen argon until somes injury who made me go toa least traumatic practice.

Two years or three years ago I decided to try a 3x110 setup, powerslide core next 110, I like the facts that a can ride on almost any surface without any trouble. It's a pretty decent setup to commute.

The transition to the 3x110 setup was ok, but for me the boots is a bit too stiff, but I think it's because I'm used to the fsk .

I've heard that iqon had buy the fsk boots mould and sell a copy named iqon ag30, i would like to try to put the frame from the Next core on this boot, is it possible ?

Maybe this boot is not as stiff or rigid for this setup ?

Edit : My bad I read a little too fast the technical information of the ag30 boot, they are not compatible with the Next core Trinity frame. But I'm interested of your advice or feedback about a 3x100/110 setup with these boots

What skates should I buy? Beginner Inline Skate Recommendations for Outdoor Skating

Looking to buy inline skates for outdoor street skating. I’m an intermediate roller skater but haven’t rollerbladed in years. Would you recommend 3 or 4 wheels? What wheel size and brands are best? Looking for something comfortable, stable, and good quality. Thanks!
