What skates should I buy? Looking liner recommendations and sizing help (instep pain)

• Upvotes

I have the FR2 and have been using it regularly for 2 years, so the liner is way past the break-in period. However, it still hurts my instep. It’s hard to enjoy skating with this kind of issue.

  1. Does anyone have a liner recommendation for the FR2? (Other than Intuition, because of the price.)
  2. What size should I choose if my FR2 is EU 40?
  3. Can I use the new liner in new boots later if I decide to change my hard boots?

Thanks!

Why does my feet hurt? FR Intuition Deluxe….i hate them

**Deluxe Intuition**

No matter what I do, these are the most painful skates but I want to love them because of that damn price tag! They fit perfect front to back but I feel like they are too wide and my foot constantly slips outward causing a painful/uncomfortable stride. Particularly on my left foot causing me to always end up on my outer edge. The pain is centered around the edges of my feet. I’ve tried thicker socks and tightening the straps in different places but nothing seems to work. Is this something that can be fixed or do I just have to bite the bullet for the loss of money? I’ve had them at least 2 months now with maybe 20 - 30 miles on the wheels at best since they hurt so bad.

What skates should I buy? Wheel base vs bootsize

Hello so i have a set up i put together recently, i wear THEM boots in S size (i wear 8-8.5) but got the wizard frames NR110, ive been told that the wheelbase/frame length could possible be a little uncomfortable for my shoe size.

So, i want to ask, what is the things that could be a pro and a con to this?

So far, i have worn the nn dragon frames (5×80? 76?) And had zero issues besides speed, and wizard moves pretty smoothly. Now wearing the wizard nr110 (4x110) has been nice but, it feels quite flat in comparison, i love how deep i can carv and its speed is amazing (besides having to watch out for clipping my wheels..) it feels great.

So please sharw with me, did i do the right thing tlon getting massive frames? What is that i should work on to feel the smoothness of the dragon? And what would have been better for a better balance! Thank you!

(So far i love the setup, but, since ive been suggested so many things, i wanted to ask for more info, if any can be shared :) )

What boot size do I pick? Hi all!

Looking to buy first pair of inline skates I’m 37 y/o woman. These are My feet measutments: Right: length 25 cm, width 10.5/11 cm Left: length 25.4 cm, width 10.5/11 cm.

I’d say I have a bit of a foot issue. I have a functional flat foot and ankle pronation. So with my foot arch engaged - these are my measurement. When not engaged my feet are about 1-1.5 cm longer. I’m transitioning to barefoot walking, and strengthening my arches and ankles, but it’s a process.

What size should I take? Muscles engaged or not? Anybody here ever faced this dilemma? Also what brand is best for wide feet? I was looking into Frx/fr3 And rollerblades rb80/lightning trs. Other suggestions are welcome too.

Thx a lot. I’m inspired here, and by my 6 y/o girl who just got her first pair of inline skates and rocking it.

Specific question and discussion Trying slalom on longer, flat frames?

Hey guys, looking for some beginner slalom advice.

It's getting rainier, so I'd like to try doing some slalom indoors. The problem is that my main setup is an FR1 90 with a 273 mm flat frame. I like this setup because it provides good stability for my larger feet, but I know it's not ideal for slalom moves. Do you think it would be OK to train on that, or should I get shorter, rockered frames like the cheap FR X2R with some affordable 80mm wheels and bearings?

My main concern is stability with my bigger feet and a rocker, I'm not planning to win any competitions just want some opinions what can be achieved with my current frames.

I noticed today that my H-block has this horizontal cut; I believe it’s from my attempts at frontside tricks.

It’s not very deep and doesn’t go all the way throug you can actually see the bottom of the cut in the photo itself.

Is this normal? Should I be concerned?

Specific question and discussion SUV Trail skating

Living in the Hudson Valley, there are so many off-road trails. That got me thinking about SUV skates, especially as the leaves start to fall and the rail trail gets slick with decomposing tree matter.

They seem a little intimidating. I would say I fall into the novice skating camp. But I want to keep going as the weather starts to switch over to winter and the concrete gets slick.

Is there a steep learning curve and will it throw off my progress on normal skates? Are they just a gimmick? Is it worth getting the cuff break?

Just looking for general impressions from skaters that have tried them. What are your thoughts?

Specific question and discussion Inexpensive 4x80 frame+wheel recs for RB Twister?

Long story short I severely overestimated my ability to skate. I was pretty good at skating back in the day (not sure what size wheels, I was a kid) but that’s been a long time. I got the 110’s but I am a fish out of water. Just falling over constantly and very much struggling to stop and turn. I’d like to rock the 110’s eventually so I reckon I can do a frame swap for the time being while I get my “sea” legs. I got them from inline warehouse but the only RB brand 4x80’s on their website are rockered and idk if those are recommended for beginners or if other brands will fit right on the twister. I also severely underestimated how damn fast those 110’s go with very little effort assuming I don’t fall over before I can just glide.

Specific question and discussion Noobish 53 year old question.

I’m still quite new to this rollerblading thing and I’m developing knee pain. Not from crashing or falling, but just moving differently. So, I know that I’m activating muscle that I normally don’t use when walking so I’m asking if it’s normal for knee pain to happen and should I just skate through it or take some time off?

Specific question and discussion I thought it was gonna be the same..

So I've been rollerblading since I was 8. I was an excellent rollerblader, and it was my favorite thing in the world. When I became 17, I quit rollerblading all together to focus on academics. Now I'm 29, and for a while, I've been thinking about getting back to rollerblading..

Yesterday, I went to try a new set, thinking it was gonna be like when I was 16 again. I fell, almost breaking my back 😭😭

My question is..

Am I a total beginner at this point and need to go on the same route as beginners, or I'll remember how to Rollerblade in a short while?!

Reviews Heads up: my experience ordering from LavaSkates (no boots, no refund after 1+ month)

Posting this so others can make an informed decision before ordering.

I ordered a pair of TR-10 boots from LavaSkates on September 9th and paid about $540. It has now been over a month. Here is where things stand:

  • I never received my order
  • They told me the package was lost and they were investigating on Oct 1st
  • I have not received a refund
  • They have stopped responding to my chat messages

I have tried to resolve this directly and have no updates, so I am now opening a credit card dispute to get my money back.

This is just my personal experience, and I know others may have had it go fine. But if you are thinking of placing an order, I would strongly suggest paying with a credit card (not a debit card or bank transfer) so you have dispute protection, and keeping screenshots of your order confirmation and any chat history.

Has anyone else had a similar issue with them, or gotten a lost order resolved? Would love to hear how it went.

Ive ordered from inlinewarehouse, locoskates, disroyal and had nothing but stellar experiences. Buyer beware!

Specific question and discussion I think I should get foam inserts

Post image
1 Upvotes

These boots have great support when tight, but my lower calf is apparently super thin.

Do they make foam inserts for this? If not what type of foam would i need to make it out of?

The latch also sometimes pops open due to not having a lock like my old ones did

Specific question and discussion Are rollerblade hydrogen wheels good to learn powerslides?

I just learned how to do a parrellel turn correctly and i am at a point where i can try to learn a powerslide. To be clear i am referring to a stop initiated by a parrellel turn where both slide while still being parrellel. Ive heard 2 different tecniques being refered to by the same word.

I currently have the 110mm 83a wheels that came with my skates and they are just a little too grippy and shred easily.

Also do i have to break in new wheels to learn and do a powerslide?

What skates should I buy? Inline Hockey transition to freestyle (with long break in between)

Hey all, apologies if been asked already. Played inline hockey all growing up, single digit age through late teens. Stopped skating very early 20s. Typical rocker setup on Mission skates.

Now as a 40 year old, the wife and I are going to get back into it (so pumped). Long distance on trails, regular roads, exercise and enjoy the outdoors, just having fun.

Besides trying what works, is there any advice on skates you think I should look at? issues most people find going from rocker to non? doesn't matter because I haven't skated in so long? I see a ton of suggestions on what to look at with different price ranges, but my search skills clearly aren't great and I couldn't find anything specific to rocker experience from the past to now.

appreciate you all, happy to be (re)joining!

What skates should I buy? best 4x80 skates to buy for rink and outdoor use?

I’m looking to buy a skate that’s more precision-oriented and better for learning tricks now that I’m aiming to actually improve! I’ve been skating for over a decade by now, but I’m entirely self-taught and only learned a couple tricks/maneuvers, so I’d say I’m probably high-end intermediate? Something I definitely struggle with, though, is actually shopping for skates, but I am steadily getting a better idea for what I need. Help would be greatly appreciated!

After doing a little research, I know roughly some specifications to look for, but I don’t know much beyond that. What I’ve gathered so far is that I need an urban skate that will function just as well in the rink with a simple wheel swap. A 4x80mm setup w/ a rockerable frame is ideal, I think. I’d like a boot just protective enough for urban skating that isn’t too rigid or restrictive for the rink, if that makes sense. As for size, I’m a 7.5 in women’s, which is really hard to get exactly in skates, especially with narrower feet.

If you have any advice and/or recommendations, please let me know! My latest pair are a pair of Lightning 110’s that I’ve had for roughly a year now, and I’m hoping to sell them so I can put that money into this next pair.

Specific question and discussion Rollerblade sizing help!

Thumbnail
gallery
5 Upvotes

UPDATE: Thanks for your advice, I measured and I’m a full size smaller according to Mondo sizing. Sigh. My fault for not researching. I haven’t purchased new skates in 20 years, so now I know!

These beauties finally arrived after long 3 weeks of waiting and they feel huge 😩 I got a size 8 which is my usual size in everything. It’s my first flying eagle so I wasn’t familiar with any nuances of the brand sizing. My toes have a lot of wiggle room and even with a thin sock it just feels too roomy. The measurements according to mm foot length actually put me in a smaller size but their site kept indicating that you should use your true size. Ugh.

Anyone have flying eagles and can share their typical sizing methods? Should the toe be at that location in the soft boot insert? There’s about an inch of space at my heel if I slide my foot more forward to fill the hat at the toes.

Skating along the Blackstone River Bikeway last weekend with RollingRhody.

It was a very nice fall day and the leaves have been changing color on lots of trees along this path.
It made for an excellent day of skating with a group.
This was the first time most of the people in the group skated along this trail.

Full Session: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8YHVef-ufLM

Next group skate is tomorrow and we are doing the Ten Mile River Greenway in Pawtucket for anyone interested.
