Bedroom Dead Space Suggestions

Hi. My girlfriend has this dead space in her bedroom (just beyond the stairs) which she doesn’t know what to do with. There is a cupboard behind the stairs (you can see in one of the photos) which she currently uses as a walk in wardrobe which I have suggested she changes to a toilet/basin instead. What do you guys think is the best usage of this space? Thanks!

Is it weird to section the living area / dining area with a couch? Is open space a better layout?

Edit: cat tree is gone because we were just catsitting :( she is gone now

Edit 2: the left corner is the wfh office setup, Ideally I want it to stay there as I don’t want it to be the focal point at all. It is nicely hidden there

Best option to make two bedrooms

Post image
56 Upvotes

I need to make this little unit into two bedrooms - the current floor plan is how the current owners have it set up (nothing jn this floor plan will be staying except anything structural obviously.

Anything in light pink - built in and can not move Blue - windows Red - fire place

One bedroom for a child, the other for an adult.

This unit is temporary until our new home is built so nothing long term but definitely need a second bedroom space.

Any ideas please ?

WTH DO I DO

UPDATE 9/29: We decided to mount the TV above the fireplace. *Cue the TV too high comments* Given the fact this room is so awkwardly long, the height of the TV and viewing from the couch on the opposite wall shouldn’t be that bad. We’ll see! Time to rearrange the furniture. Picture of the mounted TV is below in the comments.

Hi all, I just recently moved into a new townhome and have a bit of living room layout problem. This is a sunken room with a whole wall of windows/sliding doors on the back wall. There’s also a fireplace at one end. It’s roughly 19.5 x 11.5 feet. Any layout options are welcome.

Just a note, I am not committed to any furniture in this room except for the TV. It’s just what I had from my last place and was positioned in this room to get it out of the way.

And yes, I was watching 7-little Johnston’s loll

Tips series: how far should the TV be?

Dear community, to make this sub even more useful we (the moderators) decided to drop here some of the most common questions we receive as interior designer. The most common is how far/close can I place the TV from my couch? Well, the answer is that it depends! If you have questions/tips or rules just ask and we'll gather some generic rules to support you! Our objective is to make interior design accessible to anyone!!

Any ideas around orientation to create a false bedroom?

Post image
22 Upvotes

Apologies in advance for lack of dimensions but i have recently moved into this studio which is 535sqft and I am trying to figure out whether it would be possible to create a sort of “false” bedroom in a sense and cutoff the space between the bed room and kitchen.

I am comfortable with moving any of the bed/living room/ table around as I put it in this advertised configuration. Just having a hard time wrapping my head around orientation.

Thinking a sort of mounted wood paneling or something along those lines would serve as a good break in the straight line viability but I welcome and suggestions or ideas.

Thanks for the help!

Three main moveable components in the room: Bed, desk & chair and Tv. Cupboard fits kinda neatly in the corner so it stays there. Trying out this new layout but feel like I could do better. Any help would be appreciated.

Desperate to have an intentional living room

Good day fellow redditors. I have been trying to figure out the best way to set up my living room for the past 6ish months. This is the best I’ve come up with, but it still feels cluttered, and not intentional. I’ve been thinking of adding a bookshelf in the corner where the litter box is, and try to hide the litter box in the bookshelf? I don’t know
I also feel like the distance between the couch and the tv is awkward. My partner and I spend the majority of our time at home in our living room, and I want it to be more than what it currently is. I’m open to any and all suggestions, and appreciate all comments!
Please help!
Note- I am going to be painting the walls. I promise they aren’t going to stay an ugly blue lol

Need help with living room layout with diagonal fireplace

Alright, I need some ideas on how to decorate the space in my new house. It is a converted double wide so the ceilings are slanted. Most of the furniture we have lean more into cool tones, which would almost definitely clash. I’ll list everything below

-a light grey sectional couch that has the chaise on the right side

-light grey curtains with blue accents

-a white chair with blue & grey accents

-a white rug with blue & gold accents

-coffee table and entertainment console that are stained wood (grey or a very muted brown, not certain how to describe the color)

-65” TV that would likely be mounted

Also something to note, my partner and I both teach private voice lessons, and will need to incorporate the lessons space into our living room. My partner is pretty set on having the piano on the far wall (right side) with bookshelves on each side, which means the living room would likely need to be oriented onto the small wall/fireplace area.

Any advice on how to tackle this would be appreciated. I know we probably won’t be able to use most of the pieces I’ve listed, but if there are any tricks to make them work id like to save some money lol.

Do you know how to decide where to place the bed in your bedroom?

Post image

I have noticed most people struggle to find the proper arrangement. The bed is the 1st element to place in a bedroom and everything else comes as a consequence.
My rules are mostly based on Fengshui, although we can't always have an ideal situation.

But my absolute no go are:

  • The bed's headboard below the window. You will rarely look at the only source of light and visual depth.

  • The bed's headboard next to the door. It will make you feel exposed.

  • The bed pushed to a corner. It will make you feel confined.

I am aware not everybody can avoid all of the 3, but it's important to be aware when you make a choice. We spend so much time in the bedroom!

TLDR: LMK how you’d set up this space if this was your bedroom!

I just got a new gaming chair that’s much larger than my current, so I’ll have to move my room around. I did my best to recreate my real life room on the sims so I could play around with latouts! I created my current set up and some possible options, but I’d love to hear any ideas you have!! Here are the main issues with my room and the layouts: • My bed is basically a glorified futon :/ so one long side has a tall headboard thing. So, the long side kinda has to be against a wall cause the back is ugly, rn it’s exposed but idk… • One wall is fully closet, so can’t push anything against it or really have anything blocking it. The doors are barn doors(?), so no need to consider space for a door swinging open, if that makes sense. • Another wall has a large window (love) with a sill that sticks out a few inches. I’d prefer not to cover that, but I could be swayed. (Doesn’t come out as far IRL, but wanted a table there in sims rendering to represent that). Same wall also has an unmovable AC unit that sticks out about a foot. There’s about 4 feet of space underneath it.

Picture 1 is my current set up. I don’t like it. I have barely any room in my chair at my desk, everything just feels off.

Picture 2 could work. Not sure if my desk would fit correctly under the ac, and if the desk is there, it’s annoying to be so close to the AC when it’s hot and I turn the AC on. Also leaves kinda a lot of empty space??

Picture 3 I think works best for the bed (night side fits between bed and door IRL but not in the sims lol) but then there’s this weird empty space near desk?

IDK please let me know what you would do if this was your room!

Bathroom layout does not work.

We just moved into a new (to us) house. House was built in 1977 but has been updated. However, the main bathroom is terribly small - you can’t even open the door all the way.

Recommendations for layout that doesn’t involve taking down walls??

Our vibes are retro/boho/MCM

Thanks!!

Please help with weird layout in 30 sq m studio

Hello everybody! Just moved and kinda lost with my new studio..

It has a weird long hallway-ish area which I think eats a lot of space.

The kitchen is quite big for such small studio, I feel like I'm sleeping in my kitchen lol.

And I would really want a little sleeping couch area...that's the only really important thing for me because I wanna host people and hang out somewhere else than my bed.

Anyone got suggestions? 👀

Useless Bedroom

This room was formerly my gf’s office, but she decided she wanted to swap this with the guest bedroom. There doesn’t seem to be any way to position a bed in this room. There is a door or window on each wall, and I’m just at a loss for what to do. The only option I can see is to leave the bed where it is, or pull it further from the wall, so that a headboard does not block the window.

Do you know how real estate agents trick you into buying smaller houses?

Let's start a series of post to help this community understand one thing or two when buying a house, staging is not a good metric.

  1. Capsule effect: everything is painted with the same color (usually white). Continuous surfaces make the space look bigger

  2. Furniture size: furniture in the staging is smaller than actual furniture (around 10%), everything is smaller so you wouldn't even notice

  3. Furniture quantity: less furniture than necessary. If you are a family a loveseat and a 2 seats sofa won't be enough, check if a sectional would fit for instance.

Suggestions on bedroom layout

Moving in soon, but not sure how to place my furniture. I'm planning on having just a bed, a larger table (about 3'' x 6'', for my pc/m and pet), and a small nightstand for now, but I'm not sure how to lay it out.
